Statement From Swingular Regarding CW Article - How to protect your privacy. - We've been keeping a close eye on the issues surrounding the recent article by City Weekly. We've decided to post a statement regarding our stance on this issue and also help our members understand how to better protect themselves from this and when future issues arise. First of all, neither Swingular nor it's representatives have been contacted by any member representing CW to do an article. If they say they have, then the person they talked to was not truly a Swingular representative. If Swingular had been contacted by anyone concerning articles about Swingular or swinging in general, our official position is to say 'no thanks' and pass on it. However, that does not mean that those requesting to do the article will find the information they are seeking, one way or another. Just like you can find an adult dating site, so can anyone else. Otherwise, these types of sites would not be in existence if nobody could find out about them. We cannot stop those who wish to investigate the world of swinging and from them telling the rest of the world about it. Every time somebody does an article or spot on the evening news about swinging in the local scene, are we supposed to lock down, run and hide? It's going to happen no matter what you do. So our job is to find ways to best protect the privacy of our members and to inform them on how they can protect themselves. When an article or news story comes out, we have kept track of any unusual activity on the site as well as new sign ups from that local area. The recent CW article has not produced any extra or unusual activity from the Salt Lake City area. In fact, it's been a bit lower. We've averaged about 8-10 new sign ups a day from the Salt Lake City area for the past 14 days compared to 12-14 new sign ups a day in October. So the actual publicity and/or exposure from this has been minimal if at all. The reality of it is this. If my family didn't know I was a swinger and saw an article about swinging, I guarantee they aren't going to 'check' if anyone they know is. They'd rather not know. I think the majority of non-swingers would rather NOT find out if someone in their family was. Yes, there may be a few more lookie lous, but I guarantee you they are looking because they are curious about it, not because they are against it. If you are against porn, are you going to go to a porn site to see what kind of porn is out there? I don't think so. I think you would stay away from something you don't believe in. And that seems to be the case with this recent article according to the stats. Even if someone decides to check it out and see, the only thing they will be able to see is your basic info and your primary photo. Only paying members can see your full albums and only your friends can see your private albums. I don't think many people are going to pay for a membership just to find out if their friends and family are swingers. I'm sure they don't want their hard earned money profiting a site like this. We have been in this business for over 8 years and have seen it all and we can tell you it's more paranoia than anything. What it comes down to is what you need to do to be able to enjoy this site and at the same time, protect your privacy. So we have come up with some things that you can do to be able to move forward and not worry every time someone or some reporter starts talking about the lifestyle. 1. Use a unique username that none of your non-lifestyle friends know of. If you need to change it, please contact us. 2. Do not post anything that can identify you personally in your profile descriptions such as addresses and phone numbers or visible tatoos. 3. Post faceless pictures in your public album. Make sure you don't expose anything on you or around you that someone can identify. You don't need to post cartoons or backgrounds, etc... Nobody is going to figure out who you are with faceless pictures. If you need help editing your images, contact us and we will edit them for you or recommend someone who can. You can also use a free online photo editing site such as www.picnik.com. 4. Do not post any identifiable information in the forums just like I mentioned in #2 above. 5. Use caution when adding friends. Get to know someone first. 6. Use caution when allowing others to see your pictures. There are a lot of picture collectors and fakes out there so if you get a request to see your private album from a couple or single female, voice verify first by phone. 7. Use caution when sending or replying to emails. Use your initials instead of your full names or use aliases until you get to know someone a little better. 8. And last, let these things go. The more you talk about it, the more you feed the fire. I know it's great drama and presents conversation but you're only bringing more attention to the topic. Sooner than later, it will die, if you let it. By following these simple suggestions, you will be able to maintain your privacy and still be able to enjoy using a website like this to meet others. It's not necessary to completely such down your profile in fear. Are you going to do this every time it happens? Well then you might as well just remove yourself from the scene then because it's going to come up again sooner or later. It's inevitable. We hope this helps some of you and hope it helps clear up some of your concerns. Your privacy is our top priority so if you have any questions or concerns, please contact us. Thank you, Swingular Administration Note: We have removed any negativity or hate posts surrounding these issues. We feel that it is hurting the lifestyle as a whole and does not belong on a site like this. We have had many new members contact us saying they do not wish to be a part of a site with so much hate. That is not the intention of a Swingers dating site. Therefore, we will be removing any new postings that involve hate and negativity. If you wish to debate in a friendly matter or post your opinion in a non-threatening or mature way, then do so. We do not believe in censorship however we do believe in providing a safe, comfortable and friendly place for everyone in the lifestyle to enjoy.

Single Males - -

...get a girl to join you....Not only do you now "bring more to the table", but you have the added credibility that if you can find and finesse a girl into joining you in this little adventure we call swinging (whether it be a girlfriend, a wife, a second cousin twice removed, or just a hot fwb) you might just not be a giant douchecopter.
Ignoring the need to "finesse" someone and unhealthy gender stereotypes in general, this line of reasoning is a little troubling as it presumes that a male's company is inherently worth less. Or that an absence of semi-romantic relationships somehow speaks poorly of his character. I personally think approaching someone whom you aren't already fairly close with and soliciting to go to a swingers party is a bit out of line. Especially if her company is sought as an accessory to demonstrate to others that he is not, as you say, “a douchecopter”. Call me old-fashioned.
I know we can't be the only people who secretly wonder just a little bit about some single guys and why they aren't with somebody. Do they secretly hate women (yes, we've met some that actually do), are they just too lazy (or busy, maybe...but hey, we're all busy) to find someone, are they serial killers and/or just not very nice guys?
Oh, I hope you are! That's a really unfortunate outlook to have. Promising relationships take time to find, let alone build to the requisite amount of trust and stability to try things like this. In the mean time, I don't see anything wrong with someone pursuing their interests while still holding out for someone worthy of their emotional investment. To me, that behavior is quite attractive should be respected! It doesn't get any better than someone who is confident, self-actualized, and motivated to pursue their desires. Sadly, it sounds their gender influences whether this is seen as a desirable trait. I'm not sure how long you've been out of things (30 years?), but it's easy to forget the struggle when you're comfortable in a marriage. Things are more fluid. People don't feel the need to settle down like they used to.
I know many will say they've tried and swinging is a deal breaker for most women. After almost 3 decades in the swinging trenches meeting and talking to other people, both couples and singles, we would disagree....many, if not most, women could eventually come around to the idea of swinging once they feel safe and secure in a relationship.
This is just confirmation bias if the evidence comes from a sample of people you have met while swinging.
...those of us who DID put in all the blood, sweat, and tears into a relationship and allow it to grow to the point of daring (don't think for a second we aren't risking a LOT in opening up our relationships to other people!) to allow others access to our significant other sometimes wonder why some others want to take a shortcut to all the sweet swinging bennies with little or no risk on their own part.
If you're not comfortable sharing your wife with someone you might view as a potential competition, you definitely don't have to. On the other hand, there are a lot of people enjoy it :) This smacks of the old “you must suffer as I did” chestnut.
Yes, I agree, "finesse" was a poor choice of words. In my defense, I was at work and rather in a hurry to make a point...that apparently I didn't make well (and my attempts to also be humorous apparently fell flat too). Rereading my post it does smack a little of mild gender bias but I can assure you that it wasn't my intent in any way and most certainly is not my outlook on women, relationships or life in general. My intent was simply to advocate approaching swinging as a mutually desirable activity that two partners desire and share equally in. And not that it matters, but I've shared my wife with probably over a hundred men, married and single, and I've never thought of any of them as competition. But I never thought of swinging as "sharing" my wife either, but instead as her deciding to be sexual with another person and me being totally okay with her decision to do so. Sharing her, to me, almost denotes some sort of ownership or at very least some kind of permission that I would have to give. Both those ideas are not a part of our relationship. Perhaps the concept of "competition" in swinging interactions is a single male attitude? I don't know. And I didn't mean it in any way, shape, or form as a "you must suffer as I did" trope but simply as the idea that we invested a LOT of hard work and time making our marriage what it is and together deciding to risk opening it up to the excitement and also the possibility of harm that is swinging. I think, perhaps, that sometimes single people in the lifestyle don't quite understand the very real possibility of permanent damage (or worse) to the relationship that couples who swing are flirting with. For many (most?) of us, our marriages/relationships are THE most precious thing we have. What, if anything, are you risking? A bruised ego?

MSNBC Article on Swingers - actually a positive one :) - We are members of this club.We have been for about three years now. Tabu is a great place to go and meet people or just have fun. There have been many times we (hubby & I) have went to only have sex with each other. For someone who knows nothing about our lifestyle to go on Blackout night that says a lot about them. There are many themed parties every weekend!! I would encourge any and all who live in this area or visit add Tabu to your to do list!!! Fun will be had by all!! P&J

KUTV News Story on Swingers - News - We may know who the fake profile is. We received a friend request today. It seems a bit fake and has the text about "spicing things up" The profile was created within the past month. Contact us if you want to know who we think it is. We don't want to say for sure....but it fits what has been described in this thread.

We have heard about it many times........... - Couples that are swingers - It's unfortunate that you've had this happen to you, and apparently twice with the same couple, no less? While unfortunate, it's also par for the course. Perhaps one of the most cliche and over-used phrases we see appear on profiles is "drama free", and we always take that with a grain of salt. The truth is there is no such thing as 100% drama or issue-free couples. Even if they insist on their drama-free status, we also realize that we are all human, and these things are bound to happen from time to time. The key is not to find the ideal couple but to find the couple that deals with life (swinging) ideally. Find couples that are efficient and adept at dealing with issues between themselves, and are not so selfish to let things get as far as the bedroom before unresolved issues they have in regards to swinging arise during play. We've had a few situations like that...and they've always been deal-breakers for us. We simply don't have fun if we have to work that hard at making something happen. However, as a consequence, we've become very successful at filtering and weeding out those couples from the get-go. It's really not that challenging, because there is so much that you can read from people simply by observing them, their body language, how they interact with each other, how they compose themselves while you talk about a potential play dates with you, etc. Even if they're not inclined to be verbally honest up front with you two in a direct fashion, it's typically obvious in their behavior what their true expectations are. Asking direct questions about expectations has been mentioned and is always an excellent idea. We've found little things along the way that we take for granted as being non-issues for us are actually huge issues for other couples. Preferences for foreplay, whether or not kissing is allowed, and if so...kissing with tongue. What about oral, is that acceptable? You see, for us they are acceptable, but we must establish that they are with other couples. We've also found that more drama tends to be centered around the males in couples (sorry fellas). I'm not stereotyping here, but this has been our experience. We've had more than our fair share of guys that are ok with everything from girl on girl play, to my girl on him play, to both girls on him play, but once his gal plays one on one with another male besides him....oh Lord, the drama starts! Swinging has been one of the funnest decisions we've made, cuz we've made it that way, and we elect to avoid the drama at all costs, and that keeps things light and fresh. We know for every couple or bad experience we come across, there are 10 more good ones just around the corner. :) ~J~

Bubulaplease - Sandy station? - We went to Sandy Station and were immediately approached by someone who knew we were swingers. I guess we just give off the " I'll fuck the shit out of you." vibe. That being said, we loved the club, the ambience,(except the music) but the people were super nice. Can't wait to go back.

Looking for Advice - Recently coming back into the LS - Hello! So I just have a question. We were in the LS about two years ago.. and since getting back into it, it seems like what we want is not as accepting ( or that we aren't actual swingers). We aren't a full swap couple and I feel like that hinders us from meeting new people and just getting out there. While I enjoy watching my husband with other women, I have no desire to be with anyone other than my husband. Is this weird? We have talked to a few couples who just question why were are in the LS at all. They have said that what we are looking for is a "tall order" or that "we aren't actual swingers" which I can understand to a point.. but isn't this site for people also looking to explore their sexuality in a safe place with no judgements? I would love some feedback or advice if anyone else in a similar situation because at this point I don't feel welcome. Thank You!

TOUGH MUDDER - We're putting together a team for a Tough Mudder - :( there has to be some athletic swingers out there. There just HAS to be. LOL
