KUTV News Story on Swingers - News - Just watched the story on the news and was EXTREMELY relieved it wasn't aired on a Get Gephardt segment. LOL Yeah, so the lady in question said she decided to swing with her husband to save her marriage after she gained a lot of weight (guess swinging is easier than a diet or taking up jogging) and that they went to "orgies" all over Utah...naming several cities and "even Bountiful" (the story showed the Bountiful temple a few times during the piece- she said being a Mormon she felt very uncomfortable swinging in a home within view of the temple). She also claimed that she was at a house party and the hosts young kids walked in. She says she started drinking because going to parties she felt like she was in the 5th grade where you wouldn't be chosen for a team...her husband was chosen to play but she wasn't. She has to go to rehab for her drinking. Eventually she wanted to quit but her husband supposedly refused and started going out solo and gave her gonorrhea. They are now divorced. Heidi Hatch was the reporter and apparently she started a profile and was communicating with couples here on Singular (yes, they identified Swingular by name and showed numerous screen shots and even some profile names) who wanted to make sure swinging wasn't portrayed in a purely negative manner. The statistics of swinging - Relationship longevity in the lifestyle. - One thing we've noticed (and even had a few close calls with ourselves) is that, once the initial thrill of swinging/swapping wears off a little bit, many people look for the NEXT big thrill...usually separate play. And THAT, if you're not really prepared for it and don't go into it with your eyes wide open, is when things can get really sticky.
I have an acquaintance in the lifestyle who is a professor of physiology who likes to talk at length about the "love hormone", oxytocin, and how powerful it can be in some lifestyle circumstances. I guess a subset of this issue might be how many swingers who break up do so because they fall in love with someone else in the lifestyle.
One particularly insidious behavior that we've, unfortunately, encountered are men, both single AND married, in the lifestyle who attempt to ply Ms. Evil by saying things like, "If you were mine I would never want to share you.". There are probably a fair number of women (and probably men) who might be susceptable to that type of talk if they're insecure in their primary relationship.

I work in a church and know that most members here would frown upon the lifestyle. let me add that most of them are retired while I am in my late 20's.
But a young minister that we had here, who left to head up another chruch, and I had a number of discussions about sex and whatnot.
His opnion was that he didn't think God honestly cared what we did with our sex lives, that there were more important things to be concerned with. (as long as it doesn't negatively effect others)
I'm not sure if it's a generation thing?
My wife was rasied in a baptist church which seemed to be a "not talk about sex" kinda congregation, yet she and her family are very open in their discussions, some might say (me) a little too discriptive in their talks (like grandma and her new husband) but open none the less.
My basic theology is that Jesus doesn't want you to live a life of repentance or guilt but rather that you enjoy all that life has to offer, and most importantly be decent and caring towards others, not necessarily in a sexual way but in a friendship helping way.
The bottom line is that we all screw up from time to time, but don't dwell on it, learn from your mistakes, ask for forgivenness and move on to help others.
