Your mistake was that you assumed that everyone was at the same level as you. That's not a stab, but an observation. It is unrealistic to expect everyone to be on the same page, all the time. We live here. Our experience is that most couples do not hate single men. Most married men are not intimidated by the presence of single men. I know a little about Port Charlotte, my mother moved there back in the 90's. It began as a retirement community in the 60's and it's still not an incorporated city. It's just a name of a general location in Charlotte County. The most exciting thing to ever hit Port Charlotte was Hurricane Charley in 2004.
My mother moved there when she was 65 but moved a year later because she said it was boring as hell with nothing but a bunch of old people.
