I don't think being capture qualifies as "hero". It takes a person of great will power to endure a camp, but not a hero. Everyone who signs up knowing they could go to war and be captured is a hero by that standard, he just happen to be captured. True heroes in my book are those that consciously risk or give their life to save others. Those that put more worth in the lives of others than they do their own. That to me is a hero. Doing a job in a combat zone, enduring the risk of capture is what everyone faces in war, to include civilian contractors. That is not what a "War Hero" is to me. It's a great sacrifice for sure. However, It is not a qualification for presidency in my book. I want someone that is going to fix problems not prolong them with policies that are not working.

I don't think being capture qualifies as "hero". It takes a person of great will power to endure a camp, but not a hero. Everyone who signs up knowing they could go to war and be captured is a hero by that standard, he just happen to be captured. True heroes in my book are those that consciously risk or give their life to save others. Those that put more worth in the lives of others than they do their own. That to me is a hero. Doing a job in a combat zone, enduring the risk of capture is what everyone faces in war, to include civilian contractors. That is not what a "War Hero" is to me. It's a great sacrifice for sure. However, It is not a qualification for presidency in my book. I want someone that is going to fix problems not prolong them with policies that are not working.

You know what.. I give up. All I did was post some questions and a few Facts about Obama. Nothing was false.. I do not like either canidit. I am not happy with the state of the union myself. How many countries throughout history have tried to control those people and never succeeded ? What makes us think we can solve their civil wars and religious problems? How would we feel if someone tried to do to us what we are doing to them? We do have the ability to provide for our people with our own natural resources. We dont need their oil. It irritates me to death that they are having us rebuild their nation while they charge us out rageous prices for their oil while their own people only pay .28 cents per gallon. The right to bear arms is one of our most valued rights, and the founding fathers considered it our most valuable protection against a tyrannical government. However the question that should be posed now is, in the case of a tyrannical U.S. government, would a citizenry armed with guns be effective against the U.S. military machine? Gun crime causes needless deaths every year, but it's not the only form of assault and murder, it is just perhaps the easiest. It's easier to pull a trigger than to bludgeon someone with a hammer, but you don't see people clamoring for hammer control. And regardless, due to irresponsible sales activities by 'Large Corporation' gun companies and countries, guns will continue to be in the hands of criminals.

Regarding Capital Punishment, there are 4 main goals for this:
1. Punishment for particularly heinous crimes
2. Prevention of further crime by the offender
3. Deterrence of such crime by other potential offenders
4. Retribution for the victim and their family
Let's take a look at how these goals are met:
1. Punishment is appropriate to the crime committed, so essentially only in murder cases (or rape of children, or the extremely rare traitors to country) is the death penalty sentenced. But is a Death Sentence really more valuable a punishment?

2. Prevention of further crime: having an indeterminate life sentence (no parole possible) serves the same purpose, and meets the same goal. So in this instance, the death penalty and life sentence are of equal value.
<I>Ever been to prison? Ever hear of a fight, killing, rape or something of that ilk in prison? That would not happen if they are on death row OR they are dead. </I>
3. Does the death penalty deter further murder? If you take a look at Texas, the "killing machine", I believe Texas averages 17 executions a year. But far more than 17 murders are committed in Texas each year, and more than 17 prisoners are put on death row. So the deterrent effect has little to no value.

Now, take into account that merely declaring the desire to pursue the death penalty imposes additional standards on the court system, juries have to issue a death penalty after the Ring v. Not to mention the 10+ years on average that the appeals process will take. The average incarceration rate for a criminal is $ 40,000 a year, so that is a 60 year sentence before we even reach economic equilibrium on the incarceration versus death penalty incarceration. And we can always hope the criminal dies early in prison via natural or unnatural causes.
<I>The numbers used to calculate how much it costs per prisoner are not accurate. It takes ALL prisoners, some are extreme medical cases, some are in PC, etc. The average for a normal prisoner is less than 25% that of a special prisoner. That being the case, how long does it take to become cost effective? </I>
4. Retribution is a powerful need for the families of victims, and is most compelling. But as many people point out, killing a criminal is much more humane than making them suffer decades of incarceration and/or isolation.

I heard something on the radio this morning being read by the dj and I tried to remember it as close to word for word as possible. "The IE report is just out and says the worldwide demand for oil has dropped for the fifth consecutive month but yet the price keeps going up, oil companies saying it is because of the demand."
Has anyone else heard this report and how can the demand be higher if the report shows a downturn in usage. I have heard so many stories of families not going out unless needed because of gas and pawning anything they can just to get gas money. On the positive side this may just make the family unit tighter since the economy has forced them to spend more time home together.
We are not sure where our vote will be set but keep leaning toward Obama. If things here get much worse then we are cashing in our chips and heading to Canada with the rest of the wifes family.

We just don't trust Obama he is great at speaking but we have yet to hear anything that makes any sense. Hummm so far off base? Really? Coldest winter huh well i can tell you we use to average 20 below for 2 months straight durning winter the last 4 years were lucky to get 20 below for 3 days. This past winter it was 68 degrees in feb and had a week that was over 70 in dec... we had a green christmas, which in years past we use to get an average of 4 feet of snow.
The ski hills had record snowfall??????????? what planet are u working on? The vancouver ski hill was closed untill almost feb and most of that was man made snow... Whistler you know the place where the 2010 winter olympics are going to be held average almost 250 inches of snow last year they had ........ 1. I have seen a lot of talk here about grammar and correct spelling. How the people that don't have that down pack other's more educated would not listen to or spend the time on reading their post because it means they don't or didn't have the right schooling.... no not the right schooling but their votes sure count.
2. I've seen people calling other fellow swingers that share the same lifestyle call others redneck's, especially if they are from the South. Guess what they also vote.
3. I see a lot of talk about America being a racist country for hundreds of years, yes that is true and we all know that. Finally people have been opening their eyes to see that America is a melting pot and IF MOST of us look at our ancestry, we might have a little bit of Indian, Spanish, African, Irish, Dutch, German and so on. I know, I did it, born and raised in the small Island of Puerto Rico with a grandfather that is Dutch(his fathers side) and German(his mom's side) and a grandmother that is an Islander Indian(dad's side) and Spainard(mom side) mix. They got married in New Jersy in 1943, can you imagine the racism they went through, I can because I heard the stories out of their own mouths. All races that are US citizens also vote.
4. We are putting people down for the things mentioned above. People that have much more education that what I have or others have. One way or another isn't all of the above a form of discrimination? no am not pulling the racial or discrimination card because am spanish... I don't give a rats ass about that....
We are here posting, right or wrong, we are. Instead of the BS back and forth. I impel all the "educated ones" to post facts and where they got it from in order for the "uneducated ones" to learn the truth and choose the right candidate that is going to help AMERICA. By helping other fellow Americans, we might get the right person in office!

I'm sure anyone who has read this string of posts knows why they say never talk about politics or religion. It's too difficult to engage in converstion where someone's beliefs come into question. Anyone who is a member of this site has to know they are "Liberals" in their social beliefs but it doesn't mean we can't be "conservitive" in our political beliefs. Unfortunatley conservitism has been labeled as Republican and liberalism as Democrat when neither party is either. I don't know why anyone would voluteer to pay higher taxes but you can do so without raising them for everyone else. When you file your tax return you can give the Gov't as much money as you want. In fact you don't even have to accept your refund on any taxes you overpaid. It's true just read the form. Nobody I know who supports national healthcare does this though. Instead they would support higher taxes to guarantee some still unspecified form of national health care. Most workers in the US already pay out of their wages for healthcare so why tax them for something they already pay for and force the medical field into becoming a civil service job. Civil service jobs pay decent and come with those great benifits but you are kidding yourself if you think someone is going to go to medical school for eight years and pay what it costs to become a doctor to be a Gov't employee. I am fortunate enough to still have family living in europe under nationalized healthcare and guess what many europeans still pay on top of the health tax to keep a private insurer so they can get the care when they need it and not wait the 6-18 months it takes to get surgeries or other needed care. On top of that the ones who are wealthy enough come to the US for their care. Just look at the top Euro soccer players. Why do they come to the US for surgery? There is no such thing as "free" national healthcare. It's just a matter of who they are going to make pay for it and it always ends up being the taxpayers.
As for Iraq, people need to stop and look at everything involved. It's not about oil, it's about stability in the region that supplies the oil and trying to curtail the radical groups that are opposed to the US. Just look at Germany or Japan we still have military bases in those countries and people aren't screaming to bring those troops home. Obviously because those regions are no longer hostile and they are thriving economies that we buy/sell with. The US accomplished with a VOLUNTEER army in months what the former Soviet Union could not in a decade. But like any other war you do not just pack up and leave like a football game. In fact the few times we did do that (Iraq vs Iran) the side we helped hated us for leaving and not doing for them what we did in Japan. Iran has been any enemy to the US for decades the problem is todays youth has no recolection of the Iran hostage crisis. The US has always been on guard with Iran but it was Iraq that would stir the pot (invading Kuwait, attempt to kill our president) and Afgahnistan (helping Al queda) that has changed the US policy from a sit and wait approach to take out the left and right arm (Iraq & Afgahnistan) and hope that if the real power in the region Iran does anything stupid we already have a foot hold in the region and troops ready to respond. No matter what once we defeated Iraq we were always going to have a military presence reamain there just like every other war.
The real problem is we are only have two choices for a President. Anyone who supported a canidate Rep or Dem that didn't get the nomination has to choose from a canidate they didn't support in the first place. In this case one has no experience and radical views and the other has decades in public office and striaght forward views that even upset his own party. I won't say who anyone should vote for but under current circumstances it should be an easy choice.
Besides those same Euro national healthcare nations also consider their elders wise and look to them for guidance.

In fact the few times we did do that (Iraq vs Iran) the side we helped hated us for leaving and not doing for them what we did in Japan. Iran has been any enemy to the US for decades the problem is todays youth has no recolection of the Iran hostage crisis. The US has always been on guard with Iran but it was Iraq that would stir the pot (invading Kuwait, attempt to kill our president) and Afgahnistan (helping Al queda) that has changed the US policy from a sit and wait approach to take out the left and right arm (Iraq & Afgahnistan) and hope that if the real power in the region Iran does anything stupid we already have a foot hold in the region and troops ready to respond. No matter what once we defeated Iraq we were always going to have a military presence reamain there just like every other war.
The real problem is we are only have two choices for a President. Anyone who supported a canidate Rep or Dem that didn't get the nomination has to choose from a canidate they didn't support in the first place. In this case one has no experience and radical views and the other has decades in public office and striaght forward views that even upset his own party. I won't say who anyone should vote for but under current circumstances it should be an easy choice.
Besides those same Euro national healthcare nations also consider their elders wise and look to them for guidance.

Did anyone see what our terrorist supporting suppreme court did today??? They took a big crap on the United States Constitution and you and I for that matter and ruled that the terrorists and war criminals in cuba will be given trials in US courts by our (lol) criminal trial lawyers. They will be given the chance to be releaed into the public if they win thier cases.. Thats awsome. These people are there because they HATE America with every part of thier being. They would love to do nothing more than kill each and every one of us. Another great move by the libral minded suppreme court... God Help Us all..
Oh by the way the government also voted against drilling for oil on our own soil again yesterday. Fucking idiots all of them Dem and Rep alike! But on the good side the republicans did save us alittle money for the time being by blocking the windfall profits tax. take a guess who will be paying that tax if it had gone through... again Ill give you one guess. My clue will involve a mirror.
