Sensitivities - a paradox? - I'm actually just as opinionated in life. The only thing that is different here is that I am surrounded by tons of thin-skinned and/or "conservative" swingers, where as in real life, if you will, I don't associate or surround myself with them.

As far as your study of internet ego, I would love to see this paper. Which doctor of psycology/sociology performed it?? What were the controls and in what environment? I would like to say that there are no "short comings" in my life, I just call bullshit when I see it and there is a ton of thin skinned whiners that I've learned to avoid for the sake of the community and my sanity, as I cannot stand having the same repetitive arguments with the same moronic crowd. In fact I would love to see that study of yours, shoot it to me in an email or post it here for all of us.
I have no issues telling someone to fuck off in life either. In fact, I promote standing up for what you believe, regardless of what the mainstream thinks. You can ask anyone who knows me on a personal level that my passions are politics, atheism and libertinism. Hell, ask the Davis County School District how I deal with their religious zealotry, hypocrisy, intolerance of expression and the lack of seperation of church and state in Utah (in the Country for that matter). I do not hide who I am. It is many in this "lifestyle" that hide who they are for fear of persecution...
Don't get me wrong though, I do agree with the theory that some people become someone who they are not, when on the internet. Has swinging changed? - - I've been trying to quantify the changes we're seeing but it's a little hard to pin down. For one thing, there seem to be quite a few people sticking their heads in and quickly retreating. Perhaps it's the ease of entry that allows "lookie Lous" to sort of check things out without really risking actually MEETING someone. LOL Another thing we've noticed is that there seem to be more people treating swinging as simply another way to hook up for NSA sex. Foreplay almost seems to have become perfunctory (if it happens at all) and there's more of a "down and dirty by nine thirty" attitude than there used to be. Adulter or Swinger? - - I'll probably catch a lot of flack for what I'm about to say but here goes. SWINGING is or was started by servicemen in the late 50 and early 60's . Two MARRIED couples would SWAP wives for the night. Generally, the odd couples would repair to different rooms and play. The only thing sharred about it was that they had swapped... Then it progressed to parties and shoe parties or key parties and couples would go with the person whos shoe or keys they would get from the pile. So for a married woman, not in a "relationship" to have sex with anyone, another single, randomly is not cheating but in a very broad sense, is in fact swinging. I would also say that one could also say that that person is dating.... regardless of the sexual connotations.
One thing to note here is that swinging has evolved to something more than recreational sex. It now has the connotation of friends or friendship involved. In fact, there are actually people who wish to have closed sexual relations with one or more couples. Exclusive in nature where each couple involved only has sex with their partner and with ONLY people who have agreed that they willl do the same...
So cheating is the only cut and dried issue... Non consensual sex with other than ones own partner of a committed relationship. The rest is either dating or swinging/swapping...
I'm sure we all knew this but it needs to be reiterated from time to time...

Swingers - a couples only lifestyle? - Are singles considered to be swingers? - I'm sure this will get a comment or two, but it's something we've thought about and have read about on other sites.
NASCA states about swinging: "Though single men and women are involved, it is primarily an activity of couples.".
So is a single person considerd to be in the lifestyle when they are looking to connect with a couple or single ? It'll be interesting to hear what others have to say. To us, being in the lifestyle means exchanging partners - which means sex between couples. If we bring a single woman in to play it's not swinging - it's being intimate with a third. He/she cannot be considered a swinger because they have no spouse/significant other to participate with them and they're acting alone.
The lifstyle is all about sharing ones self and partner with another couple who feel the same way.
