We thought the song was funny, in fact Ray Stevens has several hilarious albums (oops showing my age) We are getting ready to move to AZ and support the Govonor on her actions, I actually read the bill. It is basically one State telling the US Government, since you are not enforcing the law, we will.
if they stay in their native country they will probably work for some large trans national corporation that wil pay them close to a slave labor salary. If they come here, they can get a better wage doing the exact same thing. I don't have an answer to anything, but we are all from another land unless you are a native american. I don't think we should demonize the people looking for a better life, like all of our ancestors. Why do we get paid so much more money for doing the same job? If I was born in Mexico, I know where I would go. Why don't we spend more time looking at the roots of the inequality instead of turning this serious issue into a talking point battle.

We can end illegal immigrations in about 90 days. Arrest the president of a company that hires illegals, say the Marriot chain, not a hotel manager or cleaning supervisor but the million dollar plus salaried president and throw them in jail for 180 days for the first offense and publicize the action. I am reasonably sure that with three or four rich influential people in jail there will all of a sudden not be a single job for an illegal immigrant in this country.
The only two flaws are that some of these spoiled lazy white kids might actually have to do some manual labor and the biggest problem is that people really don't want to go after white people.

50% of all hispanics currently in our prison system are there becuase of their immigration status. What does that say?
I am all for impossing fines on companies and indiviudals that do not follow the laws with regards to hiring. Once the government addresses why corporations and individuals are turning a blind eye to this the illegal immigration with stop.
As for the song it is completely inacurate with regards to government subsidies.
States do not have the right to enforce federal laws anymore than the feds have the right to enforce or impose on state laws as granted by the constitution. Is illegal immigration something you are really willing to go to a second civil war for?

States have the right to enact any law not prohibited them by the Constitution. So if a state were to adopt a federal law, it could enforce it. As far as illegal immigration, this is a power reserved for the federal government, as it involves foreign relations.
Personally, I (him) feel that immigrants have made our society what it is. That being said our society is one that is based on a social contract. Part of the process of legal immigration is to teach new immigrants what that contract is, and what is expected of them. Even the higher wages we as Americans expect are part of our social contract, even if it is not codified in law (minimum wage is a law, but does not explain our expectation of greater compensation for some occupations). These are things that are not learned by those who immigrate outside of the prescribed system. The whole debate about immigration probably began after the firs group of humans had settled in and saw more arriving, and they probably started throwing rocks at them saying "Get off of my land you @*##&^% immigrant"

Handc - Typos and misspellings are common and to be expected. It was the word that was misspelled and the intent of the post that prompted me to respond.

It is so,"Unreal how our so called Government, has given Illegals, the rights away, of its own citizens that have supported, fought, and died for this country. When I ask anyone, when was the last time Mexico was at War, Conflict, Police Action, or anything. During WW 1 - WW1! - Korea - Viet Nam, there was not one time in Mexico's history, that they offered help to anyone other than the those going against the free nations of the world.
They allowed the enemy to come into their country, come into their own country into the USA without any delays or legal paperwork declairing thier loyality to the USA or Mexico. now did we forget they are here illegally. they pay no taxes. they pay few bills, or is the fact that a lot of hospitals in so cal are no longer seeing emergency patients a poor example. or the fact that one man went to the emergency room of different hospitals over 2000 times in 3 years. and if you were to go to Mexico illegally you would be shot on site. that is there policy.
i am not being xenophobic. i feel that no matter what race you are if you are here illegal they should do hard time work before they are sent back. to help offset the cost of incarceration, transportation fees, housing fees, ect.

In fact, I do not share the awareness of the issue that those closer to the problem are experiencing. I'm not saying the Upper Midwest is oblivious, just that different matters receive the focus here. We are definitely insulated from the 'first-hand feel' of the problem.
I don't pretend to have answers to this complex issue. I prefer to be the one with the questions anyway. Let me float an ill-thought-out simplistic one (with a pre-ramble):
Let's assume for a moment we can avoid the privacy issue (because such a thing is impossble for the masses in this increasingly overpopulated world) - We already have a national identity for individuals, the social security number. Why not use it for the administration of all benefits? No #?, you're illegal, NO benefits, YES deportation.
You strike me as a young, much-more-educated, me. Actually, I am probably no more optimistic than you, but for different reasons and that should be a different thread.

Ok, I keep ignoring this topic, but it will not dissapear from the hot topics that can be seen from the home page. This is His view. And I do have lots to say on this topic. But I will not. Almost all of us are decendants of immegrants who do not even hail from this continent, let alone hemesphere.
However one comment here is one that pisses me off to no end every fucking time and espouses total ignorance of the history of this nation.
Our founding fathers did not like or love what the King was doing. Nor did they GET THE FUCK OUT. Instead they stayed and fought. Fought for change, improvement, and representation. And they got it.
I am a Vet. Honorably discharged. Served during Desert Storm and beyond. I did not serve for Christians, Jews, Muslims, Atheists, Republicans, Democrats, Gays, Straights, Whites, Blacks or Hispanics. I served for all Americans.
We can all dissagree. We can all think we are right. We can be happy with the way our country is or wish it to go in another direction. But we all belong. We are all US citizens.
And anyone who tells me to leave my country, the contry I served proudly and honorably, just because I dissagree with them, or dissagree with the direction I think our country is going, will have me ensuring that you know you are wrong.
If our founding fathers took on a "Love it or leave it" attitude we would still be terretories of Britain.
I like to think of the people of this nation as parents. While some uf us might not loke what our kids do, we still love them and try to guide them. You may see your kids as perfect angels and need no guiding. Who is right? Who is wrong? That is always up for debate.
What is not up for debate is telling other Americans to leave their country, their homes, their family just because they dissagree with you. Freedom of speech be damned.
Seriously, one of the most ignorant comments is "If you don't like it, leave it". I will not tell you to leave if you dissagree with me, or if laws don't go your way, allow me the same courtesy. It is all of our country, not just yours.
