I used to post on a secret political forum on another site and it was great. We had a good group of people who actually liked to discuss (heated at times) issues. We got along well no mater our differences.
If this forum like that at all?
If this forum like that at all?
The last Presidential election caused quite a firestorm of posts to the Swingular forum. It also became quite heated at times (name-calling doesn't adequately describe it).
Eventually many tired of seeing such posts appear on the front page and "political" topics were given their own category and banned from the front page (the 'Hot Five') of the site.
From that point the number and variety of posters decreased and, consequently, the category has gone largely unused for awhile now. An unfortunate result given that the entire process revealed many interesting minds among the readership and the forum reading was enriched as a result.
Please realize that this is simply MY characterization of the issue (quite accurate I believe). Read the archives to understand more fully what transpired (some authors have pulled posts, so be prepared for threads to seem disjointed at times).

Thanks for the update, I have been in forums that got that way before. I hope to see some quality debates come back.
The site I was on in CA had the political forum hidden from the general group and you could only get to it by invitation, or if you stumble on the secret entrance you could then request a password. It is moderated by a few members and pretty kept pretty civil. Sure, there were heated debates but for the most part we all got along. One of the regulars is a friend of mine and we would battle heavy on the site but go out for drinks with the wives and get along great in person.
If we can manage to get a good core of people, I bet we could bring this back to being a good forum.

Cliffnotes - " ... we would battle heavy on the site but go out for drinks with the wives and get along great in person."
Ideally, that's certainly the attitude I think should be attributed to a good forum.
I'm afraid that the situation here is such that very few bother looking at this category anymore. Re-establishing readers may prove difficult. But hey, I hope it happens.

I am inviting a lot of my friends over, hopefully they will help out.

Cliffnotes, Go read Postus interuptus an entire thread designed to attack one solitary poster. And you will realize why these fora went to hell. One particular poster singled out for his opinion was called out. Intolerance is the overwelming view of certain posters here. I wont mention the name it will become very obvious to you.
