Hey everyone,

Just wanted to say to everyone: have a GREAT New Years. Party it up. Get plastered. Have fun. But when it comes time to get from point A to point B (hotel, home, wherever), please remember to call a cab, a friend, or a tow truck.

Remember, a $75 cab ride tonight may sound expensive, but it is nothing compared to a $2500 attorney, $1500 in court fees, and a $400 impound bill.

Happy Fucking New Year (HFNY)

Mav: Great advice! But, that doesn't just apply to NYE parties, it applies to all activities where your spirits go up as you drink the liquid spirits down. I don't know about UT law, but Florida law takes your driving priviledges away for 6 months for a convicted first offense. In Florida, the average total 6 month cost of a DUI is just over $6,000. That includes cost to attend DUI Drivers School, Probation, Taxi or gas for friends to drive you around, and all of the things you mentioned above. For a first offense it is cheaper to plea guilty than spend the money on an attorney. The chances of winning a DUI trial is about 20 percent. If someone goes for a second or third DUI offense, then by all means get an attorney and a damn good one. It's better to spend $4 or $5 thousand for a good attorney to win than $2,500 for a cheap attorney and lose. Total cost for a second DUI at the end of one year is around $16,000, and a very good chance you'll lose your job. I know, I worked in DUI courtrooms for 10 years.
I believe UT laws make it 18 months or something like that. I forget. Luckily I don't hafta worry about it as my one offense was bogus and my paperwork got "lost" in the system. HA! lol
