Swingers Forum - Free condoms in high school?

line
Previous Post Next Post
"Milwaukee Public Schools' (MPS) health officials want to make condoms freely available to students in many of the district's high schools, as part of an effort to combat the health risks that sexually transmitted infections and other communicable diseases pose to young people."

This is the start of today's lead story in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (jsonline.com). Since the story just broke, there hasn't been time yet for backlash, but I'm guessing it will be considerable.

Opinions?
All cool if sanctioned by the parents of students under the age of 18.
I was a teenage boy once and we got it when we could didn't matter what the adults told us!!!! I would rather they be safe than sorry myself as long as their not handing them out and saying there ya go buddy go get laid lol!! Fact is kids are doing it younger and younger at least teach them safety...
I agree with MorganCouple. Our 14 y/o son is allergic to Latex (puts him into Anaphylactic shock) so we had to have "The Talk" really early in his life. Last thing we would want to happen is him getting ready for his first time and end up in the hospital or worse. Kids are doing it younger and I believe that it is a good idea that they have access to protection. It is also equally important that they are taught what it is all about. Ok, rambled enough for this morning. Cheers everyone.

Teaching your children about safe sex is great and it is the parents duty, not the schools. So we can all shrug off that responsibility to the school. In your "talk" Abstonance should be covered as well. If you know your kid is having sex at an early age then by all means buy them condoms your self. It is funny school districts have the money to give out condoms but they barely have enough to keep a music progam alive. Its funny they can tell your kid how to have safe sex but the cant teach them to be self reliant and respnsible for their own actions. Its funny they can teach about how sexual prefrence is all political, but they cant teach them basic math, history, and english lit. Determaning if your child is at risk for an untimely pregnancy is your job not the schools.
I had the talk with our responsible 12 yr old ... he is resp as a 16 yr or sooo... we told him in a nut shelll thet we dont want him to... but if he does just be responsible about it ... if he dont want to ask mom or i,,, then we have friends that will buy condoms for him and not tell us... ...
I think its great to blow them up and bump them around during Basketball, Football, Valleyball, and baseball games. Then of course one could (not saying I ever did) put a teachers name and phone number in it! (sorry mr. smith).....

I think I hear an echo...I heard my parents say the same thing what 35 years ago?
The Emotional Part of me hopes that condoms are not needed in highschool. The rational and logical part of me knows that they are needed.! Putting Religon/Tradition aside free condoms in highschool have the potential of not only saving lives! It can also save the future of these young kids who might "make a mistake".(not to mention the savings of health care from S T D's and unwanted pregancy) Knowing that sex is one of the most primal urges especially when young hormones are starting to take control. In my opinion I think it is a great idea I could be wrong!!
Kids are doing it and to "forbid" something make kids wanna rebel most times. I'd rather kids get educated and have contraceptives of whatever variety available just in case. I plan on giving my kids all the info and then letting them know my person opinion on it and after that letting them know that if they make the decision, whatever consequences do or don't happen will hafta be dealt with correctly. I think it's silly when parents think if they tell their kids not to have sex or refuse to sexually educate their kids... that they'll refrain from sexual activity. Silly peoples.
Always promoted condoms to my boys, none had a child before they were ready, one even raided the planned parenthood office in American Fork and brought back the whole condom jar and wetn around the naieghborhood giving them to everyone, I heard about it from neighbors.

Yes the kids do it, have always done it and always will. Give them the education, acceptance and tools (condoms) without regret, without hesitation and without embarassement and they will act that way towards birth control for the rest of their lives. Hide it, pretend, make it mysterious and they will pursue like nothing else and you will end up with a super high teen birth rate just like Utah County.
