I recently bought TIME's Your Brain: A User's Guide at the supermarket checkout. It's an interesting read. As with anything like this, I'm sure the science can be argued.
Regardless, I thought this table was worth throwing out there for discussion (I know I'm going to get the missus going at the breakfast table this morning, grin).
Who's Better at What?
Men - Male brains are 8% to 10% bigger and more densely packed with neurons
Women - Female brains have more space between neurons, which means more connections
Men - Even correcting for cultural bias and training, male brains do better at target skills like archery and darts
Women - Girls do better at skills like putting pegs in holes. Yes, this makes them good seamstresses - and also surgeons
Men - Boys excel at reasoning through a problem, but girls shine at straightforward tools like multiplication tables
Women - Two key language centers are larger in females than in males, giving girls an edge in learning to talk (an edge they never seem to lose - personal commentary)
Men - At rest, male brains stay active in areas that scan the world - perhaps looking for danger
Women - The left side of female brains stays more alert, overseeing internal and interpersonal matters
