can the block button be moved far far away from the rest of the mail buttons? Or if not, could you ad a 'confirm you want to block this member' popup?

Yeah...can see how that would be a little awkward...ooppsss...so that is a very good idea....have never tried it but can you at least unblock someone after you block them?

but you'd need to know that you blocked 'em first, and there's nothing to tell you that you did. I just figured I'd missed the reply button and just clicked on it again. Then I though... "ooops, that block button's a little close, what if...", checked the block list and there were our new friends 
they're now unblocked, but still if I hadn't thought about it they'd never have replied to us again
