One of our members is a doctor and is doing a study on swingers. He asked if we could post the survey for our members to participate in. Here is the link:

Admin, I have a question for you:
How many of Swingular's total membership is comprised of SINGLE (both male and female) folks who are active participants in the Swinging Lifestyle?
Because that's exactly how many people have been excluded from participating in the good Doctor's survey.
I'm not trying to be a smart ass about this - HONEST - I've personally been involved in scientific research studies on an academic level (both as a participant AND as one of the researchers gathering data) on several occassions.
I just can't see how a study of ANY focus group can possibly have ANY validity when certain members of that group are expressly excluded.
Hypothetically, let's say you're doing a scientific study on the shopping habits of people who frequent Wal-Mart - and you poll everyone who walks in the door EXCEPT SINGLE PEOPLE.
How valid is your final data going to be?
Thanks for listening.

Good question, I'll be sure to forward your comments to him.
when i took the survey it let me pick if i were male or female. with that being said, how does it eliminate singles from the survey? maybe i just wasn't paying attention? :P
Kitty, you participated as the "female" member of a committed "couple" relationship.
BIG difference between that and being a (shudder) "single".

Do we get to see the results of this research?
carrierman: but couldn't you just mark yourself as male and do the survey anyways? that's what i'm being confused about. i think i must be missing something here. lmao.
Kitty, what you're missing is the fact that the Survey is for COUPLES only, with the male and female partners answering questions separately.
Sure, when you answer you're answering for yourself - but as 1/2 of the couple equation.

hahahaha. so just pretend you're a couple and take the survey anyways? :P nobody has to know your "female half" didn't ever answer. mark's not gonna bother taking it. i'll be suprised if he even notices the survey is there to take.
I won't take it because my opinions are NOT welcum.
fine! be that way! :P go back to your corner and stay there til i tell you to come out.
Ya know, somehow your being Dom just doesn't work with a yellow dress on.
not a dress. it's a shirt. and what you can't see is my lack of underwears and thigh high boots. HA!
oooh - I'm aroused.
I don't under stand what part of the servey CARRIERMAN didn't understand???!!!! question number 5. Relationship Status
Relationship Status Married Single Cohabiting Widowed Divorced Other
6. How long in the present relationship?
questiion number 1 is so that they know if it is the male part of the coouple or the female part that is fulling out the servey. I guess that some people just don't know how to comprehend what they read.

Actually carrier, it depends on what the hypothesis is. Using your Wal-Mart example, if the hypothesis is "When people buy milk, they also buy eggs" then you are right, excluding singles is a problem and affects the validity of data. However, if the hypothesis is "When couples buy milk, they also buy eggs" then excluding the singles does not affect the validity of the survey results at all.

seemed fine to us. but single men have always been a drag on society. lol....

I took the survey as a widowed woman, seemed to work fine for me.
Certain folks are NOT understanding what I'm saying about the survey - and they're NOT reading the initial qualifying instructions.
It clearly states:
"For the purpose of this study, swingers are individuals that are married or in a committed, steady relationship where either one, or both partners, engages in consensual sexual activities with other individuals with the approval of the other spouse or partner".
Yes, LRMKRVO, I did read it - and I fully DO understand it.
Since you seem to think your reading comprehension skills are vastly superior to mine, please point out to me where the above ALLOWS participation by someone who is not MARRIED, and not IN A COMMITTED, STEADY RELATIONSHIP, who engages in consensual sexual activities with other individuals WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE OTHER SPOUSE OR PARTNER.
Sure, I could very easily have taken the survey and pretended I was the male side of just such a relationship, as is described in the criteria for taking the survey.
But I'm NOT.
And THAT is quite simply what I'm trying to point out to everyone.
IF you read the instructions, it's CLEAR that only those in a committed relationship are welcome to participate - thus eliminating non-committed SINGLES of either sex from participation.
WHY IS IT SO HARD FOR EVERYONE TO COMPREHEND THAT?
And as for question # whatever, I have NO clue what any of the questions are because I did NOT take the survey.
I wasn't invited to take it - I am expressly eliminated from eligibility to take it.
If you walk up to a door, and a sign on the door says DO NOT OPEN THIS DOOR, how would you know what's inside?
The instructions clearly state that I - as a single - am not welcome to open the door, so how am I to know what the questions inside are?
FORGET THE SURVEY AND READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPATION.
That's all I ask.

And I'm sure everyone is eternally grateful to you for doing their thinking for them.
Since opinions are obviously not welcome here (thank you for pointing that out to me) - I'll shut up now.

What I don't understand is how singles male or female call them selfs swingers. Now we have nothing against singles we enjoy there company often. To us swingers are a couple that are sharing them selfs with others outside of there relationship. where as singles are not shareing anything with anyone. They are just looking to get laid ( I don't hold that against them ) but swingers are couples.
Here we go... again!
I have a suggestion to end this Us vs. Them argument once and for all. Let's invent a new term to describe what it is we all do...
I guess Swinging is off the table. Would that mean 'The Lifestyle' is also off the table?

i agree that to be single, how is it swinging to have wild passionate sex with others. thats not swinging in my mind. thats just entertainment.
Without looking it up, Swinging, to swing, you need some point to swing from. and if your on the ground your alll alone.

For what it's worth, we recently ran across an old paperback - "The Swinger's Handbook - The Definitive How-to Guide to Group Sex" by "Carol" and "Tim", copyright 1974, POCKET BOOKS (a Division of Simon & Schuster). It reads very much as though it was an early book on the subject. If their opinion of 35 years ago (during what may have been the infancy of modern swinging?), is of any bearing, they wrote in the introduction:
"A Swinger is someone who participates in various kinds of sexual activity with one or more people as a regular form of recreation."
"A Swinger is someone who participates in various kinds of sexual activity with one or more people as a regular form of recreation."
There were several questions which had "OTHER" as a potential answer.... like relationships...Married, single, etc and then OTHER.. What does other mean to the researcher. Without a definition to that OTHER it can only be confusion. How about MARRIED and poly with 2 lovers, i.e., OTHER
Time out! A researcher with a bias? WTF? Sacrilege!!
