Bear with me, I just have to rant. What's up with Club Zu Key West? That place is deader than a doornail. Wifey and I have been there several times over the past three weeks hoping to make a connection, but every time we've been there the place has been empty. We've been there mid-week, weekends, late night, early morning and still the same old empty barroom. I've got my suspicions as to why this club seems to be failing and these are my suggestions to anybody associated with the club.
First, the music sucks. It's all wrong for the clientele they're suppose to be catering to. Maybe the electronica, hip-hop/rap scene works in Miami but for a swinger's club in Key West it's all wrong. I'd be willing to bet the average age of swinging couples in the Keys is well over 30 and probably over 40. Not the type who listen to rap. Virgilio's is right across the street-GREAT BAR! You ever see the clientele they've got? Over 40 . Check out what music they're playing over there and make some changes. That's you're target audience.
Second, for God's sakes get some premium liquor. When I asked the bartender for some Absolut vodka he said, "We don't serve any premium liquor. The management doesn't want anybody getting too drunk in a place like this." Please....your club needs some people getting drunk. And don't whine about keeping the prices low, the over 40 crowd in the Keys can certainly afford premium liquor. How do I know? They're across the street at Virgilio's paying $8 for a martini!
Third. Change the freaking channel on the TVs. You've got ESPN playing on one TV and gangster movies playing on the other. Great move... that really sets the mood. Put something on that ADDS to the erotic nature the club is suppose to engender.
Fourth. Change your advertising strategy. You advertise on 107 FM. An alternative Rock station. You wonder why so many 21 year old guys keep trolling the place looking for some action? It's because they couldn't get laid at Rick's or Dirty Harry's. Club Zu is suppose to be a place for COUPLES, change your strategy to reach your target demographic.

Here's our take on Club Zu or as the locals call it Club Pu. It's the worst bar on the island and it's only a matter of time before it closes. The only reason they've been open as long as they have is because they try to high pressure sell you into paying the $200 so you can go into the back room which never has any people. We've been in there 4 times and will NEVER go back. The owner is the rudest person we've ever met and it trickles down to his bartenders. No smiles, no hellos, no nothing, just give us your fucking money. He wouldn't know what a swingers club was if it smacked him on the back of the head. Don't believe the bullshit about not wanting customers to get to drunk so they don't have premium liquor. The truth is they don't have a full liquor license and don't have ANY liquor (the owner didn't want to spend the extra money to buy one) so they serve you beer or "wine based liquor" what the fuck is wine based liquor???? And they over charge you for it, how about $40, not including tip for 2 glasses of house wine and 2 of their fake margaritas which were nothing but sour mix. Nowhere in Key West do drinks cost that much and taste so shitty.
And the reason they have ESPN on the television screens is simple, the owner is clueless about what he's doing. They used to have porn on the screens, but they like to keep the front door open... so people walking past the bar could see the TVs and someone complained. So the genius that owns the bar... instead of just "closing the front door" he decided to put on ESPN in his so called "swingers bar". Brilliant move, that will sure set the right mood. Also, nothing like rap crap playing to loud coming out of the speakers to set the mood for swinging. This place is so bad it's laughable.
The final straw for us was the last time we were in there we ordered a beer (couldn't handle anymore $10 glasses of sour mix) and went to sit down on one of the lounge chairs... I sat down and the chair was wet, put my finger in it to see what it was and it was urine!! Someone had pissed all over the chair!! That explains why the club always smells bad and everyone calls it Club Pu!!!!
All we can say is, buyer beware!

im bored at "work" can u tell im replying to forums based in Fl..... from what i have read and can tell.. it sounds like (besides some of the dives on freemont street in vegas) that the owner is a cheap bassard... and doesnt swing.... since he has no clue about his demographics sounds like besides not being a swinger he shouldnt be in charge of running a business let alone being the owner.... P.S. We work hard at our jobs... but I havent had a "real Job" (punching a time clock and having a boss) since 1991..... thus so being "work -less" for the last 18 years must be doing something right.... AKA buck toothed hick from Wyoming...lol

We went during fantasy fest and the crowd was actually good and we had a good time. Now we did findout from some of the local couples there that they didn't have a liqour license and the "wine based" drinks were all the had. We also got a tour of the back private rooms and there was even a symbian there. So they don't really advertize in any way being an on prem club but we got the impression if you were discrete and didn't mind the couches ... So if there were an active swinging crowd there and it was actively an on prem club many don't even allow liquor where there is nudity in FL the wine drinks wouldn't be an issue. But we got the sense from a few local couples we met the place wasn't very active as reported above so I don't expect it to be there next year. Oh they had only been open a few monthes then.
