Paging TR, please pick up the fuck religion courtesy telephone.
HAHAHA! All I have to say is.... I told you so. Religion is fucking POISON! Why are we still believing in bronze age myths. It's all pagan sun worship and a means to justify hate, genocide, rape etc. FUCK RELIGION!

<script>document.write('<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="ht'+'tp://w'+'ww.

Oh and BELNSPOONS.... NICE TITS!

-D-
I have heard of worse reasons for voting or not voting...I'm sure we all have.
I'll fuck religion as long as she has a ball gag, so that i don't have to listen to her babbling bull shit.
How about...Because "Obama will make it so I don't have to pay my mortgage, my gas, or health insurance"?
Sounds pretty close to a "Fairy tale" to me. Sounds a Lot like religion come to think of it. Prince charming with his magical powers...HUMMMMMM....interesting.
I personally think it should be banned from our society. It does far more harm in our world than good. The good it does, can be done without it.

-D-
TR,

Ye shall bow and lick the toe jam from thy lords big toe.
Well TR,
You? Mr first amendment?
Oh! I guess YOU are the only one entitled to believed whatever they want...figures.
I'm not denying you marriage, killing you, raping you etc. I don't support bigotry. Apparently you do. Believe whatever you like... Just keep it out of my fuckin LAW!
You just stated you would like a law passed banning religion...talk about the pot and the kettle.
Uh yeah dummy... It's religion trying to oppress black people, gay people, raping little kids, committing genocide, etc. It demonizes sex promotes intolerance. Spare me your bullshit. I can justify my intolerance of religion. It's no different than the KKK... You gonna try to justify them too?

I never said anything about passing a law. I said it should be banned from our society. In other words, dummy, the people should smarten up and realize that it's poison and get rid of it, like the cancer that it is.

-D-
Banning is different from passing a law? who's the dummy? Get over yourself
I explained what I meant. You need to get over yourself. Now instead of trying to follow me from thread to thread nay saying me, like you have no life and are jealous of me, use common sense.

One more time for the fuckin stupid people. People need to realize that religion is poison and ban it from the earth!

-D-
I like to watch sponge bob, I think the squirel in the diving suit is fucking hot!
HAHAHAHA!
Thanks Don I needed a good laugh! and for the record I posted first so...who's following who?
You know I love to debate with you, too bad your such a sore loser.
Look again dummy... I posted before you. You don't debate. You can't debate with me on this issue, so you try to nay say me. I say fuck religion and give tons of reasons it's harmful to society and you can't deny it, so you attack what I say by saying that I am a pot calling a kettle. I've always said that I don't care what people believe. I care when they try to force those beliefs on me and others that want no part of it. I am right and you don't like it... That's your issue... again... perhaps it's you that needs to get over you.

I say ban any organization that tries to oppress, discriminate or deny other liberties, because they don't believe in the same bullshit cult dogma as they do. FUCK THEM! When churches burn, I just laugh and say, "Looks like god was too busy takin a shit".

-D-
I personally have forced religion on you? I don't think so.
I don't believe in religion either, I just love to irritate you!! ITS FUN! (and sooooo easy!)
I can always tell when your losing you start calling names!
Being this irritating is tiring so... GOODNIGHT!

-until we meet again-
I WASN'T SAYING YOU WERE FORCING ANYTHING ON ME! I was saying fuck religion and you commented on what I said. It was you that took issue with what I said, not the other way around. reread the thread. Oh and how am I losing anything regarding this issue, to you, you haven't made valid point one. Perhaps you do need to sleep. I think you are a little sleep deprived, you're saying stupid shit. Oh and I don't call people names when I am losing, I call them names when I think their post sounds stupid... Kinda like yours.. Dummy. HAHA!

-D-

P.S.

Try to think a little longer before you write. I know... I am an asshole. don't like me under your skin do ya? HAHA!
Fuck Religion...LOL Pretty neat trick if you can pull it off.
And how you connected Obama to my post saying FUCK RELIGION, I will never understand.
what the fuck does one have to do with the other?
Did pastor Hannity help you with that one?

BTW TR posted before you, and He was on topic, you, well you just seem to be "outta touch"
the Elections over, Obama won, it wasn't a regious experience for me.

So either discuss FUCKING RELIGION or SHHHhhhhh.

Peace, Riderz

I find it interesting that you feel Obama has nothing to do with religion. Rev. Wrong and all. God Damn America, this church has attempted to do all these things you claim. Forcing their will on others, and all the rest. And Obama was a member of this church for 22 years? So in all reasonable thought you should have not voted for the man. He speaks and what comes after his speaches? God Bless America? I find it funny that you feel the need to put Peace at the end of all of your posts, and then damn religion. Religion is a very difficult discussion for both believers and non believers. Your posts and TR's are very hate filled. But the real underlying issue is fear. And possibly hate for other human beings, and shows your intolerance for others. Banning religion is off to a start and has gripped you into following the lead of others. Now you say dont force religion on others and this is fair I agree. But dont force your will on others by calling them stupid or even evil for their beliefs. It really is a two way street. So before you attack others for what they believe in please take a look at what you dont believe in.
Fuck Fuck Fuck!!!!!

I never claimed to know who or what you voted for and really dont care. I voted for Bob Barr. So your attack on McCain means nothing to me. So the Green party HUH? Enviro Nazi's that control our lives and lively hood? By controlling what America comsumes through terror and intimidation like religion does is something I relate too. You voted the grenn party then you resist drilling and finding resources that we need all to protect an earth that can heal its self.
I find your party self serving and forcing America to your will. So kettle meet black.
THAT WASN'T OBAMA, THAT WAS RELIGION!

That religion shaped his agenda my friend...and is very relevent to say FUCK religion.
Religion is used as an excuse for war and is rarely the reason.

In most recent history it has been territorial not religion. WWI was for an Assasination of a prince and WWII was for Germania, and the Empire of Japan. Both seeking territory to expand their political ideology and had reletively little to do with religion. The attampt at the extermination of the Jews in europe was a distraction and nothing more to the underlying reasons for war. Power and ignorance generally create conditions for war not God. Such as it is.
Free,

Wow, "an earth that can heal itself". That's a new one. Where are you getting your data? From plastic and other fossil fuel products (polymers) in the oceans, to millions and millions of tons of air pollutants that have never even existed before the automobile, it's bold of you to claim that it has no impact on the planet when more can be proven that it does than doesn't. From the death of Ocean life, Melting of plar ice caps, to Extinction of animals and their natural habitats and dawn of the nuclear age and all the atrocities that have befallen us because of it, i.e. Chernobyl, Hiroshima and any third world extremist country that we now have to baby-sit. All of this for wealth and power.

I think the Green Party cause is a noble one. I find it one hell of a lot more agreeable than any religion that promotes intolerance of a minority group, to exterminate people because of their ethnic origin, to go against human nature an demonize sex and make people be afraid of their own bodies.. Hell let's name some more. The spanish inquisition, the crusades, the salem withc trials, The KKK, The LDS, The Westboro Baptist Church, Al Qaeda, The Taliban and many other extremist groups and activities. Religion, while intended for the good of humans, causes far more bad than can ever be justified by the good. The good can be achieved without it. If the different religions could exist and not try to for their dogmas on society and not commit acts of atrocity against the world, then I wouldn't have an issue.

So I don't wish to deny the individual their right to believe in god, I <b>will</b> do everything I can to deny them the opportunity to legislate their dogma. The 1st Amendment was written to prevent such bullshit as proposition 8 from happening. I think the LDS should lose their tax exempt status and I think their should be addressed as what they are... A hate group.

OK one at a time.

A protest vote? LOL sounds like to me your fed up with both sides of the Isle and I agree.
Now to war and religion. I see by your respnose that you have no answer to my understanding of what war is. Show me please where religion started WWI WWII Korea, Viet Nam, Bosnia, Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan. Religion is used for an excuse but the underlying cause is completely out of the relm of what it really is. Greed and forced occupation of the masses. Nothing more and nothing less. Show me where Hitler said we are invading France because of their religion and if they dont come to our way of thinking we will destroy them, Poland as well. War is oppertunity, nothing more and again religion is an excuse and not the cause. We will have to disagree on the aspects of war.
I loved george...Met him in Vegas. I will miss him.

The earth has been healing its self for centuries. For all time as a matter of fact, Meteor strikes, hell the moon was created from an object stiking the earth. My staement is that we as humanity goes have been selfish and I agree not nice to mother nature. However The US has reduced harmful polution by 80% since the begining of the industial age. And still according to some it is not enough. The reason we are in the state we are in. Sure oil and its emission are destructive. But Mother earth is alot stronger than any of us can imagine. She can take the hit.
Show us some data. You are talking as an expert on demolition, ecology, government. Let's see your data. The moon was created before life. Many of the meteors you speak of caused extinction level events. It's not just a matter of making sure we don't fuck up the planet, it's a matter of us not wiping out species including our own. WAKE UP!!!! Common sense man. Stop chewing your cud and listen.

P.S.

My pleasure doll.
Religion - 1. The beliefs, attitudes, emotions, behavior, etc., constituting man's relationship with the powers and principles of the universe, esp. with a deity or deities. 2. An object of conscientious devotion or scrupulous care: His work is a religion to him.

Religion has two meanings. I know definition #1 is the topic of discussion. I equate #2 with being a devout Green Bay Packer fan - a good thing (well, usually :)).

As with anything, a few can give a bad name to many. In this case we are not talking a few. The various religions that foster proselytizing, are the primary culprits for making the "bad" name for religion. Their compulsion to push their belief system on others is beyond annoying. It is a major component for divisiveness and territorialism.

The "need" to convert others leads to innumerable problems. From a personal standpoint, those folks annoy the hell out of me. We used to have a small infestation of Jehovah's Witnesses door-to-dooring on a periodic basis. They are a perfect example of myopic, trained rats. One purpose, no thought. Lemmings.

I was raised as some sort of simple, country Methodist or the like. To this day I follow the basic tenets of Christianity that make sense in the current day - do unto others as you would have them do unto you, etc. Yet, I don't consider myself a Christian. The fundamentalists ruined any chance of that as soon as I reached the age of reason. Instead, I arrived at my own interpretation, which is still evolving, actually.

My wife is a devout Christian. After 20 years, we finally found a church that was meaningful to both of us. It is a small non-denominational church, consequently, very community oriented. Early on, I met with the pastor and explained that I was agnostic, for lack of a better term. Son-of-a-bitch if he wasn't a thinking, non-judgemental regular guy. I occasionally will endure sitting though his sermons and, in return, he will occasionally listen to me say things that have to inwardly grate like crazy on him. On top of that, he's a Bears fan!

That church, to me, is an example of religion as it should work. Small, friendly and supportive within the community. There is no "holier than thou" attitude anywhere in the congregation. They are there for one another through times of physical and emotional need. They do have a missionary system, but it is geared towards "helping" in underdeveloped countries. I'm sure they "spread the word", but conversion is not the primary goal. They lead by example - which is infinitely better than trying to beat someone over the head with a 2x4 to get them to believe in your concepts (in my humble opinion).

There is no denying that people, in general, have spiritual elements to them. Almost by definition, "religion" will result. So, here's where I have a familiar rant:

People trying to force their belief systems on me REALLY piss me off (somewhat of a rarity).

The simple fact that they are all fucking programmed Stepford Wives with absolutely no original thought capacity and yet are trying to tell me how to think, is beyond annoying - it makes me think illegal thoughts (insert devil-grin icon here).

I have as much vitriol as TR on this topic. Being a fastidious, OC-type, however, I can't/won't make a blanket statement about "religion". I railed against "organized religion" for a long time. I realized that wasn't very accurate and started railing against Christian Fundamentalists. While I still do that, it is inadequate because it leaves out all of the violaters in other religions.

Our forefathers were very wise. Separation of church and state is an extremely important element of their philosophy. It needs to be strictly adhered to.

I guess my attitude is quite simple. If your "religion" COMPELS you to persuade me that your thinking is right and mine is wrong, I will count you among the legions of "religious idiots" and say FUCK YOU!

"The dog is a religious animal. In his savage state he worships the moon and the lights that float upon the waters. These are his gods to whom he appeals at night with long-drawn howls." - Anatole France
If one bad apples spoils the bunch, the bunch is spoiled. It's time to step up and put our foot down. For far too long, religion has encroach where it has no right. Those congregations that do not fit the bill of the "encroach", need not worry. We should stand up against those like the LDS and other churches that see fit to oppress, discriminate and spread intolerance of minority groups. We don't need to make excuses for them any longer.

I address all relgion when I say it belongs in the private lives of those who wish to practice it. For those churches that do not transgress, encroach or trespass, I have no such demand, as they are already complying with the secularity of this country. I too, know of tolerant religious individuals, that doesn't say anything for the good of the religion, only the individual. It's the 1st Amendment we, as Americans, despite our own dogma, need to uphold, for the good of the whole.

P.S. Wolves don't howl at the moon.
What's in a Howl?
by Fred H. Harrington
Professor of Ethology
Mount Saint Vincent University, Nova Scotia
(http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/wolves/howl.html)

(the summary paragraph):

"So wolves howl to find their companions and keep their neighbors at bay. Popular imagination has long held that they also howl at the moon, but there is no evidence that this is so. Wolves may be more active on moonlit nights, when they can see better, or we may hear them more often on such nights, because we feel more comfortable tramping about in the light of a full moon, but a wolf howling at the moon would be wasting its breath."

First of all, my quote referred to the savage within a DOG. I know, I know - but - I'm trying to pick a mini-fight here.

Thirdly, I think wolves/canines are spiritual. They also involve themselves in whimsy and play. They have no problem wasting their breath in folly, so ......

I put little faith in a researcher's opinion about the motivations of various wolf howls. Wolves most certainly can have their own soulful agenda.

We should all howl at the moon more!
I don't believe wolves are spiritual at all. I think spiritualism/religion derives from our lack of understanding of our environment. I think instead of inventing magic to fill the void, we humans need to accept the fact that we just do not know. I also think that we don't need to invent invisible men in the sky as a creator and to abate our fear of death. Christianity, like many other modern day religions, is based on pagan sun worship.

Again, as far as wolves are concern, they are animals, like us. They are capable of emotion, to include both happiness and sadness as both are a psychological and physiological response to stimulus. I think what you refer to "spirituality", I refer to as being alive. I don't think there is any unseen magical force that guides us, interconnects, judges or dictates to us. We are in control. We are our own gods.

TR

atheist vs. agnostic?

You refute the notion of any type of afterlife? We are simply matter and when the breath leaves, we are simply a pile of dust? If so, we simply disagree and there may be no need for additional discussion?

If I understand you correctly, you are saying spirituality is simply a concoction, assembled to explain that which we don
I am not defiant by nature. Just because I choose not to subscribe to any of the, number of foundless explanations to the unknown, doesn't mean I am defiant. I don't believe any of us know with enough certainty to be sure of anything, let alone enough to be forcing our dogma on others through unconstitutional legislation. I choose to admit that I don't know, instead of inventing something or drinking another's koolaid.

Agnosticism is a form of Atheism. Atheism is a generalized term that means you do not subscribe to theism. This can range from a total denial in anything "spiritual" or denying beliefs in a divine creator or creators, to agnosticism. Agnosticism being the stance that says no one knows, so to take a stance is absurd. I am mostly agnostic, with a strong leaning toward the "no intelligent design" side, because I don't see the proof in the pudding. naturally occurring mathematical algorithms do not prove intelligent design. I definitely don't think there is an invisible man in the sky that cares who you have sex with or whether you show up in a building on Sunday.

I think there is just as much proof of a race of Aliens that created us as there is an invisible being in the sky. One could argue well then who created the Aliens... Then I could say, well then who created god? Why do we afford a god the "nobody knows where he/she/it came from" and not just apply that to us? A myth originating from the bronze age, that was based upon pagan sun worship, like several others that are similiar in structure, Christianity is no more believable, righteous or true, than Santa Clause or Zeus.

I am somewhat of an anti-theist, in that I don't want religion in my government <b>at all</b>. I <u>know</u> from what I've learned about the history of this country, that the founders wanted a secular government. I don't care how the religious morons try to twist it. They did not want laws to respect any establishment of religion. The only argument against gay marriage is a religious one. There is no excuse to discriminate against this minority group. It is just as wrong to deny a gay person marriage, as it is to deny an interracial couple marriage. Bigotry is bigotry.

No it's not. You are no more enlightened than anyone else. Mathematically, in a universe that is infinite, there are infinite possibilities to include a world created purely by chance. The truth is we are finite beings trying to grasp the infinite. Because we are so "in the dark", it's even more foolish to subscribe to any one of the many thousands of religions that exist.

Religion is the opiate of the masses!

Religion is best defined as a set of rules and social norms precribed by man in order to control other men with the dangling carrot of eternal happiness.

If you were to read a ORIGINAL Brothers Grimm books (not the sanitized Disney versions) you would find it to basically read like the Bible.

Try it, you may be surprised.
TR
I'll just say this. What you said just strengthens my position. You said, in other words, as you near the end of your life, you are reaching out for spirituality. You are scared, as am I and everyone else on the planet. Everyone fears the unknowns of death. Is it the end? Do we cease to exist? Or.... do we go on? I don't care who they are and if they admit it or not, everyone is fearful of that reality. I have just accepted the fact that I won't know until I face it and I will not subscribe to something to give myself a false sense of security.

As far as the "creator and lab rats" remark. That is as possible as anything else. If that were the case, what do we owe an indifferent creator that wishes no personal relationship with us? That doesn't sound like a close and personal relationship with god. ;)

Furthermore, there is insurmountable evidence that Christianity is based upon pagan sun worship, that birthed many other similar religions, though the dogma/morals are different. The evidence proves that man invented god based upon the things he did not know and feared. As our minds experience and knowlege grows, we need god less and less.

I will grant this one thing, that is compelling on the side of "an afterlife". Energy is never destroyed. We are made entirely of energy. We do go on after death. However, is it really us? Does the sum of our experience, the knowlege, memories.... your psyche, travel with that energy? NO ONE KNOWS!

-D-

p.s. listen to Christopher Hitchens
I say, "here, here!/cheers!/well-said!/jolly good!" to your final paragraph.

I do have to correct an assumption on your part though. I emerged from my experience with death no longer being a fear-inducing thought. I find myself quite dispassionate and serene about the topic. My fear is not of death, but rather of severe physical and/or mental debilitation in this life.

I find examining the topic of death/afterlife fascinating in its own right - the unknown. The way I see it, likely there is something. So, why not ponder what it may be - just to see how close your conclusions were, once you arrive? If there turns out to be nothing - you won't be there to be disappointed! :)

p.s. "listen to Christopher Hitchens" - I googled a bit. Will check out further.
If you are secure in your spirituality and have faith of an afterlife, then what would be so scarey about a brief period of debilitation in your earthly life, when you have an eternity of experience thereafter?

I choose not to subscribe to such ideas, because I feel it is counterproductive to a healthy life. I think it's best to live life to it's fullest; as though it's the only one we have. I don't want to live in the confines of a man-made religion. I think, so long as I am not causing direct harm to others intentionally, I'll be ok. I think that if I choose to have pleasure at the expense of someone else's pain, I will pay in my own guilt and regret and waste the time I have with those negative emotions instead of positive ones. If we only live once.. What a waste that would be. SO............What is trully logical? Have a positive impact while we are here.
