Being a lifelong Badger, the State
That is the beauty of the Constitution. If left the Majority of the laws and regulations up to the individual states Rather than the federal Government. The plus side to this is that if you don't like it, change it or go to a state where the Laws are more to your liking, yet you can still enjoy the basic freedoms afforded by the Constitution. The U.S. Supreme Court is by the constitution, only allowed to make rulings on Federal Constitution Violations and whether a state law or Constitution Violates the federal one. States may place laws that are more strict or less strict as long as basic rights are not violated. Unfortunately until the 60's the states were getting away with violations of those rights and now the Supreme Court has taken advantage and tried to mandate regulations on states that were not viol;ations as well as those that were. Eminent domain being one of them. Thank Goodness there were some sttes that refused to allow the Federal Government to reign supreme and put into place their own laws making eminent domain harder to justify.
But you are right surf. some states are worlds apart from each other yet only separated by line on a map.

Our town here in Florida just started mandatory recycling this year. We have to use city owned trash cans and get one per house. If you want a second one, they now ask for a $60 deposit for the additional can. No blade of grass can be taller then 12 inches or the grass police come and put a nasty note on your door and give you three days to get the grass cut down. Summer in Florida can require you to cut your grass twice a week so you don`t have the grass police at your door.
Growing up in Philadelphia, we had to put up with the advanced New Jersey drivers. New Jersey had the right turn on red and we didn`t so when the drivers would come to PA they would go by their laws and freak us out by running the red lights. In turn we would piss the moff by sitting at a red light like the dumb ass we were and not turning when we were allowed to. Many still do not know that you can make a left turn on red when going from a one way onto a one way.
