It depends on what I am fishing for - most of the time home made chocolate chip cookies work well no mater the pond or lake I am fishing in.

On the other hand if you are talking about something else.... open zipper and walk backwards... Sometimes called trolling. This method is not used for Bass but can be sucessfully used for that other meat which is simillary spelled without the B.

It is said that the spinnerbait is the most pupular lure as it covers water the fastest. I like my own version of the inline spinner which I make at home where I can design them to fish any depth or water speed. The inline spinner has caught me everything in fresh water and many in salt water.
A close second would be a simple curly tailed grub on a lead head jig which, yes, I make those too. Best way to fish the grub is to "bump" it on the bottom. For night fishing, try inserting a glow stick inside your soft plastic grub or worm and hang on tight.

like rattle traps blue bleeding heart. also worm harness with bottom bouncer.but for catfish some smelly shrimp or worms
For catfish try slicing a hot dog in half lengthways and then cut about ten pieces out of each half. Put one piece on the hook and secure it by adding a sliver of onion after the hot dog. I have caught so many species of fresh water fish on this and a few salt water species too.
My Dad and his friends used to fish for crappie down at the Lake of The Ozarks with Alka-Seltzer. Used a clothespin to hold the tablet alongside a hook. Stuff started fizzing and it would drive the fish crazy.
I forgot about the alka seltzer trick. I had a small swimming pool wish bass and other fish in it and would test lures and baits in it. I tried the alka seltzer in a plastic worm but had little success. I think in a crawfish would have done better but I am to impatient to fish slow moving lures in the rocky rivers with moving water I used to fish in Pennsylvania.
Next weekend I might try the alka seltzer with bait off the bridge going to Bradenton beach.
