I know we've chatted about this one 100x but I need advice. I got my belly button re pierced a few days ago. Its got the standard cbr (captive bead ring) in it. Its itchy, red and painful. Its emitting a whitish ooze, which I am thinking is just my body trying to heal with metal in it. Here's my real question though......I keep researching online and it seems a belly jewel or barbell would be easier for me to wear then this cbr. The reason I lost the piercing last time is.......my job is intensely physical. Lots of bending, lifting, twisting, etc. It got very irratated and sore, and then the cbr came out and would not go back in.

My peircer says a cbr is best, because it is easier to turn, less likely to get lost. But everythign else I've read says a belly jewel or barbell is easier for a person who is actively moving, and not say sitting at a desk, or hanging out at home. Less likely to get caught on clothes, less likely to get pulled on by me being active.

Thoughts? Advice? Thanks in advance.
GARNET, everything I have ever heard about belly button piercing is to start with a curved barbell because it turns with you. We know each tattoo artist has their own thoughts. I have 7 piercing and know quite a few tattoo artists and they all used teh curved barbell. Right now though, I think you have an infection and would suggest some neosporin and bactine. I would first clean the ring in a peroxide and alcohol solution. Then rinse/clean the belly button area with sea salt. Then pply neosporine to the end of a curved barbell and insert. After that clean it with backtine and on a q-tip for the next 2 weeks. I hope this helps and good luck.

I started out with a CBR and didnt have an issue. Like the poster above me said, use a qtip and clean it out really good with peroxide. I would then use warm sea salt water to rinse it out/clean it up daily. Bactine is also a helpful tool to use thru-out the day. I've had a total of 10 piercings at one point most of which have been done twice. (Taking things out during pregnancy...getting them redone etc) This has always kept everything nice and clean for me. Good luck.
cbr's are ok for the initial piercing ... altho we use jeweled bananas... the are more low profile n u wont snag them as often... whitish discharge is ok.... if it goes dark green or grey u need to be conserned... u need to verify the quality of the metal... u need 316L... not 316LMV... there are diferent grades of staimless steele (as in grades of cigarettes... would u liike a marlobro in ur piercing or a generic or even a sub generic....) lower grades of stainless steele contain nickle and or sterling silver in as a filler metal because its cheaper.... the redness and hot ness could me a mild alergy to the metal... but b4 u change the ring... it could also be caused by soap shampoo or conditioner left in the piercing after showering... the last thing u need to do b4 getting out of the shower is cup your hand below the piercing ald let it fill with water n use the other hand to work the jewelery up n down for 3-5 minuetes to get all the soap shampoo conditioner out...

next someone recomended hydrogen peroxide... not to start a pissing match but thats the worst thing to use to clean....ask annyone in the medical field... they use hydrogen peroxide to evacuate dead tissue... (in other words it will clean the wound of dead tissur... and it will also damage the delicate new healing cells of your piercing....)

avoid anything with a scent or color for the first 30 days... lotion, body glitter, body spray, suntan oil, etc... u can get an infection from anything with a scent or a color....
Keep ur hands off it and dont plat with ur piercing...(do u know how many germs are on your hands...) ur piercing is new ... its novelty and fun.. but its also delicate and needs time to heal b4 u play with it....

u can also over clean it.... just work it back and forth in the shower to get all the soap shampoo and conditioner out... and at night mix 1 tbs of Epsom salts to 1 cup warm water ... bend over and place the cup around the piercing creating a vacumme aginst the skin and lay back thus the soloution resting and working through the piercing... do this nightly for 10-15 min for the first 30 days....

all tho... contrary to populat belief... DONT use Neosporin or other anti bachterial creams.... after 3-4 days of being in the piercing they loose their antibachterial properties and just create a moist breeding ground for bachteria.. (altho if cleaned properly they shouldnt be left in the piercing that long.... should be cleaned well enowgh to remove all of it if used... BUT if u can follow instructions read the label...."NOT TO BE USED ON OR FOR PUNCTURE WOUNDS!!!!" What is a piercing... a puncture wound......

as far as the redness (besides a mild allergy to the metal if lower grade of stainless... or soap shampoo conditioner left in the piercing) some navels can be red for up to the first month or so... its just some bodies adjusting to the piercing..... if its truly infected.. if u place a finger gently on the jewelery and slightly move it and u have wet ur pants type pain then its getting infected....

the worse thing to do with a infected piercing is take the jewelery out (unless its an allergy to the metal).. if removed the piercing closes verry quickly and "seals the infection inside the body"... thus a bad thing....

altho not a medical professional a visit and consultation with ur piercer (if knowledgable about what the hell he or she is doing... if not they shouldnt be poking holes in people) could save u a trip to the doctor and a office visit bill.... there is a few more areas to cover ... but without seeing the piercing i cant delve into them... besides its 8:45 i need to get showered and get to work..i need to be there at 9 and wont be done till about 5 or 7.... generally i can sneak out about 6 or 630. ive spent the last 14 years poking holes and drawing permanant pictures on peoples skin....hehehehe dennis
I didn't know that about hydrogen peroxide. I've always used it in addition to bactine. *shrugs* Learn something new every day. :)
When we suggest hydrogen peroxide, it was to clean the jewelry no on the body. Hydrogen peroxide mixed with alcohol is one of the best way to clean inanimate objects.
