Sounds like a guy that didn't want to face the challenge of approaching the swan. He chose the duckling because he was intimidated.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so if he found the ducklings beautiful, more power to him. But from the article, it sounded like he wanted the swan, found the swan attractive, but opted to go with the duckling.

Quoting from Harry Nilsson and his animated movie.. THE POINT:
"You see what you want to see, and you hear what you want to hear."
No doubt there are many beautiful women in the world who arent Barbies, but whos personality shines past their physical flaws. There is a great deal of difference between being self confident and arrogant. I have the fortunate priviledge of being married to a lady whos filled with humility and yet to me is the lovliest person in the world. She is no model or centerfold, but I wouldnt trade her for any of them.
Based upon my experiences... too often some of the most attractive ladies loose their luster due to their love for themselves. Those girls who compensate for their physical short comings with personality and attitude do exhibit a magnetic attraction that is more lasting.
However, there is no excuse for not doing ones best to try to maintain proper hygiene and health. Physical appearances still play a major roll in any relationship.

I enjoyed the article. It took me back to when I first started dating my wife. The big difference between the story and my experience is that my wife (who looks like she came straight out of playboy) was the one who was down to earth and didn't put on the air that she was all that.
I kept waiting for the attitude to surface that you can (not always) find with beautiful women. It never came and much to my joy she became even more beautiful when I began to get to know her and found that, as pretty as she was, it was nothing compared to the beauty that was inside her.

Beauty is cetainly in the eye of the beholder and inner beauty is the most beautiful of all.
