In CT yesterday I paid 4.88 a gallon for diesil. A less refined fuel than gasoline?????? and the main fuel for commercial use in the United States.
The main reason is that these countries drill for and refine the oil right in the own counrty!!!!!! We have 2 of the largest oil field finds in the history of the world under North America and we can NOT touch it. Alaska is estimated at 500 billion barrels. A newer find under the area of North dacota is estimated to be in the same relhm. China is drilling for oil right now as I type this off the coast of Florida and we (the United States) can NOT drill there. Companies outside this country have given bids to get the oil shale deposites under the southwestern areas in America for around 45 dollors a barrel. Oil closed at 126 dollors a barrel on fri. These are all FACTS look it up if you dont believe. We have the ability to make this countr completly self sufficiant of foriegn oil. On fri they put the polar bear on the threatend list. Total bullshit. The fact is that global warming is now proving to be a total farce and that we have actualy begun a cooling trend. the last 2 years were the coolest on record in over 60 years. The polar bear population is actualy in the increase. LOOK IT UP! The media is not telling the truth and have not been for years. Fox news is as close as you can get and they are awful to. amen sexyct... i was told a few years ago that there is enough oil fields in alaska, (all drilled and caped of course) to meet the untied states oil needs for over 200 years... we here in south west wyoming are finding the course of actions of the local oil companies rediculious... (sorry if i pissed some people off) but a year ago i bought my deisel truck.... fuel for it was and always has been cheaper by at least 10 cents a gallon over regurlar gasoline..... now im looking at over .50 cents more than gasoline and i filled up the other day at 92.00 to filll her up... thats why when a friend of mine asked me if i wanted a pick up bed fuel tank i jumped on it... he workes for halli hoe and they were throwing it out he was asked to AHEM.... EMPTY IT INTO THEIR TRUCKS AND TAKE IT TO THE DUMP.... lol...as a result i came up almost 70 gallons of deisel....just had to move the tank from his truck to mine... like i told him... i didnt want the tank.. but the contents was good as gold... inny how back on track.. we are in the middle of a oil boom... as in the late 60 early 70's... prices locally have skyrocketed the last 3 years... we wanted to buy land and build a house.. i told the wife i wasnt paying 20g a acre out north for a dirt spot... but now our family has grown again... 94grand for 2.4 acres looks real good and we are considering it... my daughter wanted to move here... a 2 br apt 5 yrs ago they couldnt keep renters for 325.00 a month... are renting for 950 a month anf they have a six month waiting list... its crazy... if u want to work 7-12's 2 weeks on 1 week off... willing to work and the most important pass a drug test (no doesnt depend on the questions asked....lol).... then u can make from 25-35.00 hr depends on who u work for... i was talking to another business owner the other day.. she told me she has never seen it this way... they sell dirt bikes atv's etc... most of their sales are cash sales because 9 of 10 credit aps they run are turned down based on bad credit but the guy makes 200k a year.. they have the income but their credit sucks... its bad here they are drilling and fracking and CAPING the wells... u drive north of here and on the west side of the road alll u see is caped well heads looks like a checkerboard every 100 yards...inny how back on track again... makes u wonder what the oil companies are wanting for.... are they waiting to sell their oil 150 - 200 a barrel well they are getting close... we need someone with nuts in office that will say uncap and pump and refine locally in the united states and see how fast the foreighn reserve tanks fill up and they come crawling begging for us to buy their oil that is overflowing their storage tanks and begging us to but at 50.00 a barrel would be a nice starting point before we say ok we will buty at 50.00 a barrel with the agreement that we buy one barrel and get two FREE...lol would be nice and put the foreighn countries in check and let them know that the sleeping giant depends on no one.... just our $1.00 worth.....used to be .02 cents but inflation and such around here... I think we should start tapping our own resources until we find an alternative. The global impact remains to be seen. I don't buy that we are not damaging the environment, but I will say that we can't just quit using oil. I think we should fine big oil I think their profit increase should be paid back to the U.S. people.
If we hold on to our reserves while we work on alternative fuel, then once we do find a new fuel source, our reserves would then be worthless to us. So why not start using what we have?
this is a great thread.. The other sad side of all this is that we are being told our economy is in a downslide and we are heading into a recession. People aren't spending money on retail things or new cars and they say they can't possibly understand why. But when you go to work 5 days a week and one of the days you are working is just so that you can fill your tank to go to work the other 4 days is rediculous. We haven't been spending money in the stores because we have to spend it on gas. Food is getting more expensive because of the rising cost of gas. Who has money to go get clothing? Or that new video game for your kids.. And we wonder why the economy is slumping. You want to know how to cripple this country??? We do have alternate fuel. You can power a car with natural gas. It's cheaper, burns cleaner and it's not imported from overseas. The problem is, most people have no idea. We should be fueling our cars in our own garages. Pretty much any vehicle can be converted. The American public needs to quit being complacent and change our own lives instead of waiting for the government to do it for us.

hi guys again.... i rember i seen a small clip...(help, don... can u find it????) the other day on tv that they had a car in testing that ran off of water... the problem ther were working on was that it technically runs off of hydrogen that is left when they seperate the oxyogen from the water... thus H2O...... but in crash tests the car caused a small explosion fron the reserves of hydrogen waiting to be used as a fuel.. there has been the techniology around for years that created cars to run off of alternative fuels..... but low and behold the inventore were offered millions for the rights and the patents for these motors and alternative fuels... you will never guess whom...(actually the companies) that hold these patents... ya the companies that would loose the most.... Well here what gets me alot of cars in Europe get 50+ miles a gallon the Ford focus gas gets up to 35 mpg here the diesel version they sell every where else in the world gets 58mpg. VW is bring the diesel jetta here in the next few months it gets mid 50's a gallon. As far as energy here the history question of the day. During WWII how did the Germans keep going when they had no crude oil the answer Coal to Diesel yes the U.S. has the largest reservse of coal in the world and it can be converted to diesel. We have rising food prices because the acre of corn is more profitable for fuel than food or feed. Yet we have more oil in oil shale in Wyoming and Utah than all the oil in the middle east. we have coal that can be converted to fuel yet we are using food when we have much better "alternitive energy" right now. Fine fuel prices are up I can deal with that. But food prices are increasing faster than gas. and the avererge family will buy more items at the grocery store than gallons of fuel in a given week. I can choose not to ride the snowmobiles or bike or 4 wheelers this week to save a few dollars but still have to buy food. I agree with ds we are seeing Huge increases here in Wyoming house that 5 years ago sold for 80,000 are now 250,000+ the bars are usually packed and here if you can pass a drug test the cash gates are wide open at 25.00+ an hour, every company i know is running short handed and looking across the country to find workers. Local walmart is 100 people short and paying 13.00 an hour and can't find people. I am not trying to be sexist but in the old days when the family needed extra money the wife would work at the grocery store or the fast food place but why have here work there when she can working in the minerals industry for 3 to 4 times the pay. And while everyone goes oh its dangerous work the minerals industry [including mining ] are the SAFEST jobs of any industry anywhere.
Has anyone one noticed that the three people that claim they will fix these problems when they are elected president, could all fix the problem now...but are not doing the jobs they were elected too in the first place and are still getting paid for. Why should we have to wait another 8 months for one of these assheads to get elected president before the will do something about a problem thats happening now? To another post: I've also read The Communist Manifesto, and studied the Russian Revolution when I was stuck in my "idealistic 20s". I dont see the parallels in this particular scenario.
I recommend "A revolution Betrayed" by Trotsky or "God and The State" by Bakunin for a better insight/balance to what the philosophies were leading to and after the revolution.
The gas crisis was not created by profiting from increasing oil suppy. The real money is made by controlling and monopolizing the market. Putin and his cronies are doing it right now as well in Russia.
Not one politician is going to go against the will of the contributors who put he/she into office (particularly in the first term). Prices wont drop any time soon, no matter where they drill. Unfortunately, the market will have to correct itself, and that will take time.

Great thread!!! As a person how plays in the stock market I have paid a lot of attention to the oil thing. NO I didn't buy any stock in Oil honestly when I hear it was going to go up I thought it was a joke. Boy I guess I was wrong, anyway I started doing some research on Hydrogen Boosters. This is a cheap way to improve gas mileage. I heard about this from my neighbor who put one into his 1999 GMC Blazer and he now gets 33 Miles to the Gallon. I have a 2000 Ford Explorer and have gotten all the parts which by the way cost me under $100. I plan to install this in my truck over the holiday weekend. Warning***** this is not for newer cars!!! Over 200 years ago we fought a war to get rid of big goverment, most people do not realize the Revolutionary War was fough more for economics than rights. The citizians of this land were not allowed to import any finished goods except that it came from England. We could make it eaiser and cheeper and faster here then we could if we waited, by send raw materials overseas to have them finisned then import the finished goods to be retailed.
As I have stated in the past, this country has not allowed a referinery to be built in over 50 years. China has plans to build referinerys every year for the next ten years. Each refinery will outproduce all the refinerys we have in the state of Utah. In ten years all the refinerys in the united states will be too outdated and ineffecient to be used, and will be shut down.

Companies HAVE been and WILL CONTINUE to research alternative fuels. However, there is nothing to compare right now economically to the use of our fossil fuels. When we don't drill and refine our own while other countries are doing so more and more with no restrictions, we make it harder for these companies to do that very research. Also, it FORCES us to be at the mercy of those who DO supply us with our oil, making it impossible to be come energy independent. The technology we have today to do what is required is safer for the earth than it was even 10 or 20 years ago. It comes down to this... are we gonna let the elite few dictate our future, or are we going to do what is right and help our people out of this craziness? Bless you all, we're gonna need it.

Talked to my brother yesterday, he said gas is $4 and diesel is $5 in Newark, New Jersey. Now where I live which is a small town of Interstate 95 in Florida, gas is $3.73 and diesel is $4.80. I was talking to my husband yesterday and remembering when I could fill my mustang's tank with $22, that was 2 years ago, now is $55 to fill it up. That is 2 1/2 times, more than double...
It's hard to talk to people here about things, the ignorance is tremendous, between politics, racism, recession and the loss of jobs at NASA in 2010, people are going crazy here in my town. Crime rate has gone up, people stealing gas from parked cars getting into peoples garages to steal the gas, 11 houses on a street of only 3 blocks long, going into foreclosure. Gun sales have gone up, everyone protecting what's theirs.
I sit back and look at what's going on. I am so scared for our future and my children's future. Talked to a friend that is a physician, he says that more and more patients are coming in with signs of depression, I guess only the strong will survive.
Has anyone else noticed things like this happening in their neck of the woods? or is it here in my small lost town?
