We have the same situation here. About the date, if I remember right that is when the site first came to be. I bet the management here could give you all the details.
The owners of the site can answer that better, but from what we can tell. When this site spun off from Playfulswingers.com they copied all the existing profiles.
We have emailed the Admins of the site repeatedly and we would suggest everyone as well do the same requesting that old profiles where the user has not logged in for 5 months be deleted. They waste everyones time and degrade the quality of this site.

From what I understand, there was a merging of two separate sites on or about 28 August and it seems that most of those "members" shown as last logging in on that date were part of the database from the merged site. We were told back in February that something will be done to reduce the number of out of date profiles, but to date it has not been accomplished.
