I am not a pothead but an advocate to legalize it. I think the answers to your questions would vary as much as those that drink alcohol, shoot guns, race cars, off-road race, parachute etc. Just trying to shed perspective.

KRISTY,
Only if they leave their house and drive or cause a public disturbance. It's all like alcohol. Liability will alway be there. To deny everyone their liberty for what the few morons do, is still oppression. Should be disallow you from eating any dessert because there are fat people in the world that can control themselves? That's what HighDesert and your logic suggests.
HIGHDESERT,
1) You avoided the question again. What makes pot bad?
2) You still don't get the crime reduction thing do ya? Read about the prohibition of alcohol and you'll see why crime will falter with respect to it. When growing and selling it is in control of the criminal, crimes happen. When it's legal and controlled like liquor, crime is greatly reduced. This was already proven with alcohol. It's still being proven in Holland and other European countries that have legalized it and other illicit drugs for use, not to mention prostitution and these countries aren't falling apart.
3) I would like to reiterate that the framers of the constitution, no matter the debate, put into affect an protection from religion. My question is would you be singing the same tune if Islam were the Majority here. I think not.

Everything that applies to alcohol should apply to any other legalized substance. Just as it applies to over-the-counter drugs like Nyquil.

It's like this for morons
You buy hot coffee from McDonalds
you spill it and burn yourself and then
you want to sue Mcdonalds for selling hot coffee.
You buy a bowl of chili and you find a finger nail
in it.
If you smoke ciggerettes, you want to sue the
tabbacco company because it's bad for your health.
I quote " Sucking smoke down your lungs is difinately bad for you."
You have a minor fender bender you sue the insurance company
everyone rates go up. You drive down the road some guy pulls up to
and asks "Are you straight?"
Drugs and alchcol are more or less liquid courage...
You cut somebody off and they shoot at you.
You look at the wrong person and they want to fight...
How do they know you were looking at them if they weren't
looking at you??
To get drugs you have to go out and buy them from someone
You go to the bar and you drink and your intoxicated and it doesn't matter at
what level...
People who need help can't get it because to many people out there
that abuse the system...
Most laws are based on common since.
They pass laws because someone has abused the privilage,
we bring it on ourselves because we think that if I do it
you should do it....
If you listen to loud rap music, in your car and it so loud
that i can't hear myself think, it's ok weather i like it or not.
You think about this , when you do something think about how it
affects the people around you...Just because you like it doesn't mean
i have to. So what you do in your own house is your own business
not mine... but as soon as you walk out that door it becomes my
business, especially when it is illegal, because all of us law abiding
citizen have to pay for it in the in.

I, like many others, view the Christian religion as just as "nutty". Only recently when liberalism has taken a hold of the country have Christians been kept in check. Most Islamic countries are not anarchies but theocratic dictatorships. Christians have just as much blood on their hands as Muslims. Every church has it's extremist groups. Google "Westboro Baptist Church", if you don't believe me. Hell the KKK is a Christian extremist group.
Let me also point out that it's convenient for you to pick apart everyone else's point and not offer yours to the conversation. So unless you express a legitimate reason to oppose the legalization of marijuana I find very little value in your point or lack thereof.
As to your question... My right to choose was and is being "stripped". Now answer mine. Why would you oppose marijuana legalization. Quit dancing around and make a point. If you're against it, fine. I asked, expecting to get diverse replies, but please try to rationalize your decision.
In regard to religion in the government, it doesn't belong period. You can't argue that. Since you would like so much to see it, perhap you can tell me why you christians pick an choose what morals you enforce. If you're so pro "GOD'S LAW" in the government, why are you swinging? Adultry is against god's law and is unconstitutionally illegal in many states.

hence the reason we want it legalized. LOL! Your examples of lawsuits have very little to do with this issue. I am a total advocate of responsible use. However, I am an advocate of freedom of choice. None of you have given a viable reason or excuse for pot to be illegal.
Your logic can apply to driving cars. Perhaps you shouldn't drive cars Kristy. After all irresponsibility with a car can kill people too. Especially in this state that's full of fucktard non-drivin' motherfuckers. So should we outlaw driving or should we allow people the freedom and regulate it? I vote for the latter. Just like I vote for legalization.
It is a liberty being denied to all of us, born in a moral code I do not respect or acknowledge. This is one of many liberties that have been taken from us because of religious nut jobs trying to impose their dogma on us illegally through improper legislation. None of you can argue that because you know it's the truth.
-D-
P.S. Kristy, everytime you stay or leave your house to swing you promote the spread of disease by not practicing monogymous sex. You are risking the spread of AIDS, Herpes, syphilis HPV and a whole host of other STD's. Again, your logic doesn't justify oppression.

FACT: There are stronger forms of marijuana available to adolescents today than in the 1960s. Stronger marijuana means stronger effects.
FACT: Research shows that nearly 50 percent of teenagers try marijuana before they graduate from high school.
FACT: Marijuana has adverse effects on many of the skills for driving a car. Driving while high leads to car accidents.
FACT: Marijuana users may have many of the same respiratory problems that tobacco smokers have, such as chronic bronchitis and inflamed sinuses.
FACT: Marijuana smoking affects the brain and leads to impaired short-term memory, perception, judgment and motor skills.
All forms of cannabis are mind-altering (psychoactive) drugs; they all contain THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), the main active chemical in marijuana. They also contain more than 400 other chemicals.

So we should, as with alcohol, prohibit it's use by minors. Done. Whether it's legal or illegal they are using it. I do not deny that it's harmful to your health. So is food, tylenol, skydiving, driving and on and on and on. It's still my choice.
You seem to think that legalizing it will suddenly make it available to children. They already have access to it. I could get it from a number of my friends in junior high lol. Do you think keeping it illegal will make it unavailable???
I would also like to add that because it's illegal, the control of it lies with people that are criminals and some of them are violent. When deals go sour people get killed, etc. Read about the alcohol prohibition. Violent crime went way down when the legalized alcohol.
Again, your logic applies to many other things to include cough medicine, alcohol, spray paint, gasoline, sleep deprivation, sex etc. etc. etc.

What I find funny is all these people that drink (save Kristy), have an issue with weed. LOL! Being called a "pot head" and told that you are too stupid or high from the pot smoke to make a logical argument in favor of legalization. So people that drink are too drunk and too big of lushes to make any rational posts too. There is no valid argument for not legalizing it when alcohol is legal and it's "worse" than pot.

Marijuana is <u>not</u> physically addictive. On very rare ocassions, someone can be psychologically addicted to it. The psychological issue can arise in those that think they need it to sleep or treat pain. However, it is nowhere near as addictive as tobacco, alcohol or other hard substances, because of the physical additions associated with them.

I am proud to say I have been clean since 1988 and plan on staying that way. Like I hear so many others say my pot smoking was just my introduction to drug use and led to many other things much harder. Once you get used to the high we search for something greater and this is what let me to do harder drugs.
I am very fortunite to be alive today considering some of the situations I found myself in. Some of my old friends were not so lucky. Most notably is the car I was supposed to be in pull away without me in it and right in front of my eyes get cut in half by a train as they tried to cross the tracks despite the gates being down. All that was in their system and mine was pot we had all smoked together.
My first wife was beat every day by her ex and she said it would be when he got to partying with friends and smoking pot when he got the most violent. Luckily he died before he killed her. The two kids were very young at the time. Then we met and I had two stepchildren but she died 11 years later from a rare illness and left me to finish raising their two kids. So what do I tell the kids about their dad when they asked questions?
My life is better off without the shit involved in it. Our friends know how we feel and respect that. Wether you make it legal or not, there is a certain amount of responsibility that goes along with doing it or drinking. All we can do is hope that others use good judgement and enjoy their shit at home.
Here are my answers to your question. Sorry we didn`t sit up following this thread all night.

Well let's see what else we can find dangerous.Oh how about the idiot that has to talk on the cellphone whenever they are driving,Seems to me I read somewhere that that was just as dangerous as driving drunk.Oh and let's not forget this one.How many of you have had sex in a moving automobile with the driver?I would think that would be a major distraction. And yes I am guilty. How many women have flashed their tits at people in cars and trucks, there again a major distraction.I believe that just about everyone does things that are illegal and think it is ok.Just so everyone knows I DO NOT smoke dope, but think it should not be against the law though........Phil
Ah Shucks, lets have a big house part and pass out the viagra. LMAO btw i never have had any "loss of appetite" when smoking pot only "the munchies" party on dudes! Mr.

I'm with Highway on this one...there are plenty of ways to kill oneself.
There are plenty of things the general "law-abiding" public does in their cars and homes that put themselves and others in danger.
Have to wonder which demographic group will be next after having ridded our communities of the dregs of society by outlawing tobacco and alcohol (the insidious pot-heads have already been dealt with after all)?
How about the fat people? They live an unhealthy lifestyle, and certainly provide a burden on society with obesity related issues. Attribute the rise in Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, increase in cancer (yes cancer...in individuals who have never smoked and have otherwise lived a good "christian" life) to the convenient and unhealthy lifestyles full of decadence and complacency we lead (Hmm...I know there was a reference to the Roman empire somewhere earlier in this thread).
Once the fat peeps are incarcerated...who shall shoulder the burden and blame for many of the ills in our society?
There are always going to be special interest target groups in our society, whether they be pot-heads, crack-heads, fatties, adrenaline junkies, speeders, cell-phoning-while-driving idiots, swingers...well you get the point.
We may forget to look at WHY things are made illegal, maybe that's on purpose...because when you think about it...the reasons for WHY they are do not make sense. It couldn't be merely for personal safety and health reasons...because if that were the case, then certainly excessive food, and cell phones would be made illegal.
I'm with TR on the too much government intrusion scene; We are the so-called "most free" country on the planet...yet we have the most laws and government intrusion and incarcerated percentage of the population.
Period.
Merry Christmas...haha

That is actually not the case most of the time. It's been proven that pot is only a "gateway drug" to those that would already be suseptable to harder drugs. This also applies to alcohol. The issue lies with the individual and not with the substance itself. You could apply it to any mind altering substance to include cough medicine, paint, whippits, etc. Check out this article:

Well Don, I have to sort of agree with you in the fact that I do not think pot is addictive. My own personal experience with pot was that it is no big deal so when I saw friends moving into other harder drugs I joined thinking if I was bored with pot and not feeling the high as much the stronger drugs would get me there and just like pot, they would be no big deal. Just by luck I had a long term relationship end and broke away from the crowd and after a few weeks of being drug free felt so much better both physically and mentally.
I continued to smoke pot once in a while until my fiance at that time asked me to give it up. Having been abused in the past she said it made her feel vulnerable to being beat by me while on pot. She knew I would never do that but it was just her skeletons from the past she had to deal with so I was able to walk away from all drugs and never look back nor have the desire to do them since.
So in my case, pot helped lead me to trying new drugs. As you stated "in most cases" so maybe I am an exception. And as far as drugs being addictive why was I able to simply walk away? From pot maybe because it seems common knowledge that it is not addictive, maybe habit forming at best. I have actually had people get mad at me because I am so "lucky" to have been able to walk away. I am so sick of hearing their shit that I refuse to even bother with them anymore. So many have tried rehab several times to no avail. So wha tmade me walk away from the drugs they claim to be addicted to? If anyone has an explanation I would love to finally know.
I feel like I dodged a bullet the first time while doing drugs and am not willing to ever take that risk again. Luckily Lori can not have any alcohol or drugs because of a seizure disorder so she is my designated driver if I decide to have a drink out somewhere. Even though I may be under the legal limit, why take the chance driving when I have someone completely sober with me. Legal or not, when doing any drugs or alcohol we need to use the same type of judgement when making decisions.

Again, this will happen whether it's legal or not. If weed were non-existent, you would've turned to harder drugs anyway. You are a type A personality. People with addictive personalities will always exist. The same can be said for food. Yours was a personal problem and not a problem with weed. Alcohol is just as much a gateway as weed. Illegality is not stopping use. It's just allowing criminals to control the market of it.
