Chlamydia is the No. 1 communicable disease in Utah and the nation. But some infectious diseases that make the Utah top 25 are not even on the national lists and vice versa.
The Utah Department of Health each year lists the top 25 communicable diseases, along with the number of cases, its historical rank and a comparison with the national top 25. The 2006 list is online at health.utah.gov/epi.
"Frankly, some of the differences are quirks of reporting," said Dr. Robert Rolfs, Utah's state epidemiologist. Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), for instance, is No. 2 in Utah, but nationally, reporting hasn't been required. And it won't show up next year on Utah's list either, he said, because it's "not very trackable this way."
Influenza's another quirk, he said. Where historically it has ranked No. 2 with a five-year average of 1,169 cases, it has dropped to No. 7 with 496 cases in 2006. Does that mean the incidence has gone way down? "Not necessarily," Rolfs said. "We changed the way we track it," and the number includes only cases serious enough to require hospitalization, while in the past the count was broader. Nationally, it's not a reportable disease.

Hmmm.... Should we all have a petri dish party instead of a school girl party?
Dang.. sounds like there is alot more sex going on in this state that people are admitting. WE must be in the wrong place at the wrong time... again and again.
Maybe it's because I'm young or haven't swung much, but I am always sure to ask in person about anything communicable. I figure a liar is going to lie but a lot of people who would not volunteer the info will be honest if asked directly (with tact of course).
you're all very welcum.... now be careful out there.... and have lots of FUNNNNNNN....
