I saw this on myspace but I thought maybe swingular might want to help out.
In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices.
Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all myspace members are asked to not go to a gas station in protest of
high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the myspace network, and the
average car takes about 20 to 30 dollars to fill up.
If all myspace members did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$2,200,000,000.00 (that's BILLION) out of the oil companys pockets for just one day,
so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the
Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.
If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldnt) repost this bulletin repost it with
'Don't pump gas on May 15th'
Seriously let's see if it works!

More like $30-$60 to fill up And here lies another key to getting the price to drop. That is DON'T fill your tank. Buy and use what you need for a couple of days and belive me within 3-4 weeks every storage facility in the nation will be full and the price will drop. Even they have a lag time on slowing refining, and topped off crude and refined storage tanks forces lower prices because they have no where to put the current production. So if you don't fill your tank(just what you need) between now and the 15th and two weeks after. You will see a difference. Pass it on.
If you guys are like most of us we are not driving any more than we have to. I have taken to riding my Bike to work and telecommuting as often as possible. The worlds largest corporate entity is Exxon/Mobile and they showed a 10% increase over last years PROFITs. Yes that is 20% in two years.........that is pure Profits not expenditures. These are the people taking our monies in government subsities and then bending us over at the pump. If you want to startle the market. Not purchasing fuel is not the answer because you are just going to gas up sometime later. Try not purchasing fuel from the company that is hurting us the most.
This is straight from files on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exxon_Mobile
I can also send out the SEC filings the they put out as well, but they are large documents showing just what they are making at our expense. I quit buying fuel from any company that uses their fuel. You can do the same just by asking the local place that your purchase from.

I have a boat I would love to take out and play....But no these ASSHOLES gotta rake in more money so they can play on their Yates....drive there Lincoln towncars and yada yada.....The rich get richer mean while the ppl who work their asses off just to make a liveing only get ROBBED! Yell yea I am all for not buying gas on the 15th or the 16th hell make it the 17th too.
Can I get the link to that myspace page so I can add it into mine?

Dave
That's why we're on a motorcycle.
Yah i agree with everyone. We are being raped and no one in the goverment is doing a dam thing about it. 30 to 60$ heck my truck takes 85 to 100$. If i fill it all the way up but cant afford to. I would ride my bike to work more but hard to ride to work in rain or snow. lol let's all try and make a dif on the 15th.
Hell yes!!! We realy should start doing it once a month... Its all a bunch of bullshit! Every god damn year it goes up just before the travel season 40/50 cents a gallon. We all scream and yell to no avail. Then shortly after labor day it goes back down 10 to 20 cents and we stop yelling but the F@#KERS still get the gas prices up higher than it was in the spring.... Its realy time to do something about it... This country was formed by the slogan "WE THE PEOPLE" and now it couldnt be further from the truth... I say we do a national no gas day a few times a month.... Its not to hard if we try... Shit maybe if it goes well we can do a national Im not paying my taxes this year.... LOL.. Kidding but its true this country is not the peoples anymore... Its for the rich and the corprate sloths. Its not gonna be to far down the road when a higher edjucation is only going to be affordable bye th rich or super talented.. think about it.... Whats the real reason parents are on the sidelines of their kids games beating the shit out of eachother?????? Its called praying for a scolarship!!!!
I agree that putting some pressure on the oil companies is a good idea. However a short term drop in sales in no way effects their pricing structure. One idea that was promoted last year but failed to catch on is to boycot Exxon/Mobile branded fuel. They are the major player in setting prices nation wide. If their sales drop they will lower their prices to draw business back to the pumps and soon the other brands should start to follow suit. Just my two cents of the topic.

OK...So we are forced to pay more for gas? Yes we are, in TODAY'S dollars! In the 1970's and 80's, I can recall that gas was at $1.50 per gallon. Translate to today's dollars, and we are looking at about $4 per gallon. Gas is STILL cheap.
Exxon/Mobile is NOT the problem, the problem with prices is that the oil market is strained due to the conflicts in the supply lines. China is thirstier than us, as is India. We do not get out oil from the same places though, BUT the world oil market, not OUR market dictates what it costs for a barrell.
A day long boycott will do nothing, a weeklong boycott will do nothing, a monthlong boycott will do nothing. The ONLY way to get the price to fall is to decrease demand. How do you do this? Get rid of these trucks, SUV's, etc. Almost everyone I know who has an SUV thinks they are safer, WRONG. They are no safer than anyone else, but you know what an SUV does do? It KILLS more people. You are more likely to die in a car accident with an SUV than with a car, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DRIVE. The biggest problem with SUV's is that they are TRUCKS, the vast magority of people do not know how to drive a truck, therefore they get in and cause accidents. In Florida, when it rains, it is as bad as driving on ice, when it rains, what do you see scattered all over the side of the roads? SUV's...Why? Because the people who purchase them have no clue how to drive a truck, they went from a car or mini-van into a 15,000 pound rear wheel drive beheamoth from there little 4,000 pound Honda. HUGE difference.
This is nonsense, if you think we pay a lot for gas, go to Europe. Europeans pay for a litre what we pay for a gallon, and there are more than 4 litres to a gallon. What did they do? They take cabs, buses, motorcycles, bikes, and, God forbid, they get off of their fat asses and walk somewhere.
To lower the price, you must lower demand, and permanently, NOT for a day.

i promise you i would love to be able to trade in my SUV for something that cost thirty dollars to fill up, as opposed to seventy five. but, what would you suggest i do with my five children?? three in the back seat and two on the hood?
just a thought....

Well while fuel prices are high I don't see anyone changing their habits. Jeep has a diesel libererty out that gets 30+ mpg on the highway but 95 % that are sold are gas models that get 18mpg. Change what you buy and the car manufacters will follow suite if you keep buying 15mpg suv they will keep making them and not worry about r&d because the model sells fine for them. Also I don't see anyone complaining about car prices that are outragous. I see someone complain about gas going up but never about the $500 $600 or $700 a month payment for that new $40,000 suv or truck. I don't see people complain that their mortgage arm has gone up and now the payment is 100 or 200 a month more. Wow i am not seeing people complaining that computers lcd tv and tons of other products are ALOT cheaper then they where 5 years ago. But o wait we haven't built a new refinery in this country in 25 years either lack of refineing is the real reason prices are up. Opec could pump millions of more barrles a day if you can't turn it into a finished product called gasoline, oil is not the issue lack of refineing is. We have more coal in the US than all the oil in the middle east. Coal yes coal which can be converted to diesel fuel it can be gasifide liquidfide and may othe uses. When the Nazi's couldn't get oil in WWII they used Germanys resourses, Germany has lots of coal they converted it to diesel wow 60+ years ago they could do that. But no one wants a diesel car or truck. Oil shale is all over Utah Colorado and Wyoming more oil shale than all the oil in the middle east also. But we don't want to mine it.
CONVINCEUS.............thats pretty good if you ask me
Sunshine.........I would say make em push but then the child labor act comes into play so you cant do that either.......These fat ass Oil tycons need to relize one thing, its not about them never has been, but noone not even the goverment will stand up to em.....What do these oil companys care anyway? They have 3 or 4 homes each and fancy cars big ass yauts. Go one cruise every year, fly over seas for free. I say the goverment needs to start taxing thier ass's heavier! But we all know that wont happen....
If I didnt live in such a remote area I would walk, I would drive my bike more but alas like today its raining.....so we are stuck driving our SUV like everyone elce....
REALLY........can ya loan me the money to get a better milage vech........???

Well 50 miles to the next town and 90 miles to Rock Spring so we can't ride a scooter to Walmart. We will keep our truck suv and sleds. Sorry Virgin no loans we don't believe in debt because the barrower is slave to the lender [mm mm wait that might be interesting lol
I agree Gas prices suck. They are so rediculous and so are the reasons behind it. Im not so sure but at one point they said it was due to the conflict between the UK and Iran with the whoe sailors and Marines gig. Thats ove so whats the new excuse. Prices just keep going up on a weekly basis and its rediculous. Some Bush supporters have said our economy is doing great so why are gas prices rising? If its doing so great why are we all pissed about having to pay $3 or more on a gallon. Personaly i think its the gas companies being shitheads.
If you would like to know why gas prices are so high ask the oil company. I am sure they will have no problem telling you what ever they want you to hear.
It is a form of making the most money in the shortest amount of time. You need to remember that the US is not the largest consumer of fossil fuels. Why do you think that Europe is so much more advanced in high fuel effiecient CARS and TRUCKs. Why does it take 15 years to produce a fuel efficient car here in america when we have been able to purchase them in London for fifteen years. The oil companies here are taking advantage because the average Jane and John, dont think about the WHOLE picture. If you want to make a change with a world power and yes OIL is a world power it is going to take other forms of engineering.
There is a vehicle that been on the forein market for the last 5 years runs Entirly on air. only goes about 300 mile on a fill but travel at 45 miles per hour.......there is a company in the Bay area of CA that has been trying to get it here since its conception. Look it up google MDI Air Car

SUNSHINE...
1st- They know what cases 5 kids...No surprises.
2nd- WHat is wrong with a mini-van? I came from a family with 7 kids, we always had a station wagon. We all fit in there, but not today, there are no in the roof DVD players, there are no plaxces to plug the MP3 players in, there are no places to plug in your gameboy...Wait a minute...we didn't have those things, but what we did have were parents who were parents, and if you thought you were gonna be a prick and start picking on one of the siblings, you got your ass beat, "Want me to pull this car over?" was NOT an idle threat. A minivan has MORE room than an SUV, UNLESS you are in the Expedition or Suburban, so what's wrong with that? I know...It is not cool looking! You can't keep up with the Jones', they have a Hummer! So what do you do? You go buy an SUV, a vehicle DESIGNED to be taken off of the road and turn it into a school bus, a soccer-mom mobile, an instrument of death. I do not recall the exact satatistics, but it is something to the effect that 80% of SUV's never see offroad unless they are in an accident. Really need it, don't you?
As to the others, you bought it, deal with it!
I have a Kia Spectra, yep, it is small, but I get 30 miles to the gallon. I also have a Ford F-150, I get about 132 miles per gallon, how often do you see me in the truck? Not to much! I drive it when necessary. How often do you see a Hummer, Expedition, Suburban, or the other monster size rolling machines of death rolling down the road with ONE person in them? They really needed that truck, didn't they? Nope...But it makes them look cool!
I remember the commercial that made the SUV cool, believe it or not, it was a Honda commercial. A man in a suit was walking down a Manhattan street in his 3 piece suit, he stops and looks in the window of a Honda dealrership, and he slowly transformed into a bearded man, with a flannel shirt and hiking boots, he walks away and then comes back to buy his "Nature Mobile." Couple with that commercial the stigma attached to the Mini-Van as a "Soccer-Mom" vehicle by Morey Schafer on 60 Minutes doing a bit about the Dodge Caravan being unsafe and exploding into flames in a rear end collision. You fell for it hook, line, and sinker!
Think back to the 70's and even the 80's, who drove SUV's? Cowboys, farmers, and construction workers...Now all of a sudden, those who NEED them, cannot get one!!! To expensive.
I sold Nissans for a period, just as the new Exterra came out. It was billed as, "The SUV that puts the Sport and Utility back into the SUV, made for those who need them, not want them" but what happened? People were willing to pay $10,000 more than MSRP for them, just because they were new, and God help you, if you had a yellow one you would get $15,000 more than MSRP, yep, $5,000 more to drive the short bus. You know who bought them from me every single time I sold one? A DINK, Dual INcome No Kids!!!! They really needed it, didn't they?
Hey, the way I see it, you make you bed, you need to lay in it...No one made you buy the SUV, no one made you live to inconvenient to be able to walk someplace, and no one made yo ave a baseball team fell of kids, they were all choices, now that the economics of scale have caught up to you, you wanna complain...Oh well, you did it...Not me...Not Exxon/Mobile...no one else...
As to the refinery operations, if you did not drive the behemoth SUV's, the refineries would be able to keep up with the demand on fuel supplies, again, WE created it, not Exxon/Mobile...

i am not exactly sure, please educate me on what causes me to get pregnant? for i am a gigantic moron. (i said moron, not mormon. ha ha ha ha
) ok fyi. my eldest daughter is the product of my husband's first marriage. the next one, came from his wife leaving then realizing that she made a big mistake and he took her back. my three year old son also belongs to my husband and his ex-wife after they got back together. the first child i gave birth to, our two year old, was the greatest surprise of my life. birth control does not always work. our fifth and FINAL child ( maybe i am not such a moron, since i got my tubes tied) is the child we decided to have together.
we are raising all these children together, with little help from their other parents. so kiss my ass dude.
(ok, so i am somewhat hostile at people attacking my decision to raise five children that i acquired at the age of twenty two. sorry.
)
and, yes i made the choice to buy an SUV as opposed to a minivan. my sister has one. and it is MORE crowded than my durango. show me the car that has seven seat belts, and baby, i am there. i personally happen to feel a lot safer with my four-wheel drive on in a foot of snow. especially while packing such precious cargo

Well I think the bashing the suv isn't the way to go. Yes we have an suv and a truck
and we live in Wyoming. Our suv and truck see alot of off road time as do most of our neighbors hunting fishing towing the pop up towing snowmobiles 4 wheelers etc. Yes we spend alot of time in the backcountry. When we lived in the city we had cars but as our life has changed so has our vechicle choices. Yes everyone out west loves the big 4x4 and we take them to places people in the city only read and dream about. We deal with feet of snow and inpassable roads. Never seen someone in Chicago or Detroit or Baltimore on side the road chaining up their suv to get home but thats life here. Hard life for a 4x4 in the mountains and thats what we love about it here. Hard to chain up a Tuarus or rock crawl in a accord although i have put my malamutes in the back seat of my zx2 and mounted the dog sled to the roof. Yes if you buy a big suv or truck it should be a need not a toy. lets stuff that dead elk in the trunk of your camry or haul a moose in your kia thats life. Do i want a Hummer yep, will it spend more than 50% of its life off road hell ya, i have a winch and not afraid to use it. Could you drive a kia over parley's or thru cottonwood canyon over south pass or teton pass in the winter storm only if you where being dragged by a suv but oops no tow hooks on your kia do i like 4 wheel subaru hell ya but no payload towing or ground clearence give me a wrx that will tow 4 snowmobiles and it will be in my driveway

Was NOT attacking you for having children...Not at all...Was making a point...
As to towing, sure they will tow, perhaps you are misunderstanding my point, so I will attempt to make it again.
You choose the life you choose, and then complain that you have to live with those choices. No one is making you go out offroading, rockclimbing, snowmobiling or anything else that a 4X4 is needed for...they are all choices. When you make a choice, you also decide to accept the consequences for that choice. There IS a need for 4X4's, I used to have one when I needed it, however, I do not need it due to lifestyle choices...
As to 7 seatbelts in a car? No problem, Buick Roadmaster Stationwagon has them, actually has MORE seats than your Durango...three benches with 3 in each bench. So nyah nyah nyah...LOL
As to the subaru, perhaps that would work, I do not know as I do not go get moose nor elk, however, I do hunt hogs (sorry that is all that is worth hunting in Florida, the deer are the size of my dog, most of them smaller, Grat Dane)...
Please do not think I am attacking anyone personally...I am not...it is not my wish to make you think I am...I am simply stating that the fact remains that you made choices and now you are pissed at oil companies because of your choices. The oil company is there for one reason: MAKE MONEY they are not there to make it cheap to have gas, make life better for ANYONE but the stockholders, if you had the stock, you would be happy, but my guess is you do not.

The oil company is there for one reason: MAKE MONEY they are not there to make it cheap to have gas, make life better for ANYONE but the stockholders, if you had the stock, you would be happy, but my guess is you do not.
Hey WERENOSTS! Sexy picts and bikes... We love how you save gas!
ok, so i got my panties in a twist. wait, i am not wearing any panties
i actually do participate in activities where 4x4 is needed. hauling my kids around in the utah weather. that is all i said. and my original post was not to bitch about my choice in buying an SUV. I knew very well when i purchased it that it may take a second job to put gas in the damn thing. my point i was trying to make was in response to your original post about SUVs in general, in that some of us have very few choices in the vehicles we drive for a number of reasons.

Just heard that on the radio as well (Kber) and they are asking their listeners to do that as well on the 15th!
To conserve more gas we should do a "Play Locally" day as well one day soon all over the country and save gas so we don't all drive, fly and travel all over the place to meet fun play partners. Most times they may be right in your back yard. In fact there we go we should recruit more locals to play with to save gas over the long haul as well
LOL After all it is for the goodness of the country, and it has our support

I plan on joining in on the 15th. The oil companies are not going to stop this summer until gas hits $4 per gallon so say some analysts. More "gas outs" will be necessary to get the message across. Let's make it hurt!
Yes the price of gas is rising, as to a possible answer I have none, not my field of expertise BUT we are still getting it cheap compared to some countries. I know of one when converted pays well over $5/per gallon.
