Getting to know others with similar interests. Don't wanna sound like a smart ass, but I thought that would be obvious. I never hear you guys ask that question when people are talking about motorcycle riding. What do motorcycles have to do with the lifestyle??? Same thing I said... Common interests. What do you think?

Yeah, most recently, I have been readin a lot about stem cell research. I find it quite interesting how many people want to stifle progress. Religion has it's hands in far to much. What is really funny is all the anti-stem cell research propaganda shows fetuses. They prey on the naivety of those that can not discern between the two. Anyway, that is meat for another thread. I would be interested in seeing anything you can send my way.

JEFFINGERSAUL, Interesting points. However, I don't think the guy was passing anything as fact. I think he was just saying that we as the human race are arrogant, thinking that we are such a "grand design" and we are the center of everything. Because things are "just right" and the process of selection/evolution, we are the best thing that could've came about. Other attributes in nature prove this. I think your point that the universe is most likely infinite suggests even more that we are imperfect an most likely not alone and not the most important thing. I see nothing so far in science that proves the Christian God exists or any god for that matter. So, why are so many so apt to cling on to something that probably does not exist??? FEAR! That's what I think. I think ego is a huge obstacle for we humans. We need to realize that we are not the center of the universe.

You can neither prove or disprove any of it either? Your stance has no more validity than anyone elses. All I am saying is that Christianity is no more "correct" than the gods of olympus. You call scientific quotes drivel as though you have some sort of information the rest of us do not... The thing is, you don't. Their view is no more "drivel" than your own. Science has done more to disprove the Christian God to prove he exists. Christians have proven nothing. So I find more weight or plausibility in somethings than others.
Your claim that we have an attachment or connection out of our physical bodies is your hypothesis. It is not fact. I think you should be more subjective to the unknown. You can no more prove there is a connection than I can prove there isn't. I mostly agree with GOODGENES' views. I believe humans create religion to fill in the void. Fear of dying and ceasing to exist is what makes us invent such things. People fear the unknown.. So much so that they can hate it. Racism proves that.
You said people are capable of Good things... What is good??? If your god tells you that killing someone because they are infidels, is good. Take embriotic stem cell research...
Christianity says that is bad because their bible says so. I do not agree. In my belief, A person is their consciousness, the sum of their experience. I do not believe you are a person until you have a brain with a frontal lobe. Who is right?
You also mention a "relationship with God". What god??? Is there more than one? What's his name? Have you seen him/her/it? If so, what's it's name what does he want? How did you find out about him/her/it? I think you are just proving the point that believing in a non-existent diety is a way to deal with fear of the unknown. I think it takes balls to face the unknown... Probe it... Make it known.
Know this... If you were born in India, you would most likely be Hindu. So what is your point about god. How is your god anymore real than Zeus, Odin, Thor, The Great Spirit, Sheeba etc?

Know this... If you were born in India, you would most likely be Hindu. So what is your point about god. How is your god anymore real than Zeus, Odin, Thor, The Great Spirit, Sheeba etc?

Religion is, simply put, a means for MEN to control others through the use of fear...IF YOU DON'T _________ YOU WILL BE PUNISHED FOR ETERNITY!!!
This is a common thread through the majoity of religions, thusly I cannot believe in any of them.
This argument reminds me of the idiot who offers $1,000,000 to anyone who can prove evolution...Well....the person who is offering the money is the one who decides if you proved it...Would you allow yourself to lose the money? Probably not, therefore, no matter what you may bring to him, it is not proven. The evidence of evolution is all around, like it or not, it is there. There is, however, NO proof of a creator.
Finally, if this God knows all, sees all, does all, why is it that he needs anyone's help with things? Wether you look at the whack-job Christians killing abortion doctors, or the whack-job Muslims blowing themselves up, there are many who are supportive of this behavior. Also, if he is so powerful, knowledgable, and controling everything, why does he need my money? The preachers who are begging will say,"Well, God needs it because it is in the Bible." or something along those lines, however, if he were to read the Bible, he would find that the whole idea of titheing is in the Old Testament, thusly it does not apply to the Christians, only the Jewish people. If this God is speaking to this minister, why doesn't God tell him how to invest the money the church has in the stock market to make it grow so he can quit begging for more?
The whole thing is ridiculous and the argument is simply useless...You cannot discuss politics, religion, OR the Great Pumpkin without someone getting offended and wanting to argue, fuss and fight.

Yet, we can see smell. You can prove smells exist with a microscope. Your analogy defeats your point. You also defeat your own point by saying you sense god, therefore he must exist. Smells are tangible. Why? Because they are proven to exist through science. You can see how smells interact with our oralfactory system.
What I am saying to you, is that you can no more prove god exists than we can disprove it. I never said god does not exist. The existence or non-existence of god are both theories. I see more plausiblity in the "no god" theory because more scientific facts support it. Your sense of god can easily be disputed. It is far from fact.
If what you are saying is true, then all gods exist. Some people are so convinced their god exists, they commit murder, suicide and other moronic acts in their "god's" name. So how is your "sense" or "feeling" of god any more true or real than the next person? You say, "It's up to us to find it all out". The only way that'll happen is if we die or if the hypothetical "god" showed itself.
Remember, I never said there was no god. I said I didn't believe their was one, based upon current. The truth is no one knows. If you choose to believe based upon a "feeling" you have, go for it. I'll stick to the more tangible evidence.

You wrote, "Religion and the existence of God (while similar by association) are two separate conversations. I'm talking about the notion that there is a God."
Why "a" god? Why not gods? Could god be a woman? Why God? Why not gods? Could your god be Allah? How are you suppose to know which path to take??? A book? Influence from people around you? If we are suppose to "find out on our own". How do we do that? study all religions and see which one works out?

I concur. However, I will never say never to either unless of course, I am in the presence of the devine. It is entirely possible that science is just the law of the devine.
What I find most interesting about the religious argument is that the use phrases like, "find a relation ship with god". Is god hiding? Furthermore, what do they refer to the hypothetical higherpower singularly? Why the Christian God? Why Islam? Why Hindu, Shinto or Buddhism? You are directly influenced or affected by those around you. Jeff argued, "it's up to us to find the truth about god." How is one to do that when religion or spirituality is dictated by humans. It's dictated by feelings and laws decided by the individual faith. What is good in one maybe a mortal sin in others. I just don't get it.

It is my opinion that actors and singers, should not use their celebrity as a political soapbox. They, like most of America, are victim of political propaganda. Most of these "liberals" siding with the democratic party fail to ask the same of those hypocrites or hold them to the same standard.
No one is calling for Clinton's head on a pike when he is just as guilty of our current situation. Had he not ignored the signs whilst getting his cock sucked by an ugly fat woman, Billy could've prevented a great deal of the grief we now face. Since these "liberals" seem to love to live in the past so much, why not shed some light on their bullshit blunders??? These fucks need to spare me their hypocrisies.
Speaking out against one administration for something that is the fault of both "liberals" and "conservatives" is a fuckin joke. I found these misguided morons out of their element. What they need to do is shut up and sing about their misguided bullshit. I prefer not to listen to someone who probably doesn't even know what "electoral college" means.
Thanks for the link. Regardless of it's focus and it being way off-topic, it was entertaining for me. LOL I find it very humorous when celebrities think because they are famous, it means they are somehow intelligent. Take the Dixie Chicks for instance.... Dumb bimbo singers with the politcal sense of a gnat trying to use their celebrity as a pulpit to spew their nonsense. The entertainment industry should not be taken seriously when it comes to politics.

Tequilla i generally have no problem standing on the opposite side of the fence to whatever you are talking about, but today i stand with you hand in hand.
I "" lost my faith in religion when I was a kid and find daily reason not to support any type of organized religion. I have a faith in a higher being, because of a couple of plane crashes and a gunshot that missed my heart by "That Much".
When we of the devote lifestyle live our lives as we see fit, especially those in restrictive states. It is not the law but morallity that looks over our shoulder. I am an adult male that has almost a full and complete brain, and make my own decisions.
Religion and the thought of a God is sort of like telling your children that thunder is the angels bowling...............it fulfills juevenille thought process but does not stand up to scientific scutiny.
I have spent the last tweny year in Naval Medicine and have seen things I can not explain, but that does not mean that there is an all powerful being lending his or her expertise to medicine.
TR thanks for bringing this one out, it is fun to agree with you some times......not always though

Regarding robotics, do you think they are capable of consciousness as we define it. Also, do you think because our bodies are just biological machines, would you agree that machines are capable of emotion if "thought" processes are independent and "perceptible" by the entity.
Regarding "Rage Against The Machine", anarchist are the most deluded and misguided of all. People are far too greedy and resourceful to allow it all to fall to chaos. If there is power and corruption to be had, humans will make it happen. LOL
