So CBS decided to fire Don Imus after his racist remarks about the Rutgers Women's Basketball Team.
After apologizing to the entire US publicly and the basketball team privately they still let him go. I'm sure the Rev. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are happy.
But we've yet to see either of them come forward and apologize and retract their statements about the 3 accused players on the Duke Lacrosse Team after all charges were dropped when the accuser admitted she lied.
While I never cared much for Imus, or Stern for that matter, why is it that the Sharpton & Jackson can say all sorts of "reverse racist" comments and Al still has his radio show and Jesse shows up everywhere, yet guy slike Imus and Stern get fined and fired.
It seems as though a dangerous double standard is brewing.
Thoughts?

I'll have to agree on the double standard. I do not agree with a lot of things that are happening in society today. I think if you are going to have true equality, we have to treat everyone the same.
Actor Michael Richards (<script>var site='htt'+'p://ima'+'ges.google.com/images?gbv=2&svnum=10&hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=Michael+Richards&spell=1';document.write('<a'+' href='+site+' target="_blank"'+'>Kramer</a>');</script> on Seinfeld), was paraded in the media for his racist comments as seen <script>var site='htt'+'p://ww'+'w.
';document.write('<a'+' href='+site+' target="_blank"'+'>here.</a>');</script> Yet the media seems to hide things like Dr. Kamau Kambon, seen <script>var site='htt'+'p://ww'+'w.
';document.write('<a'+' href='+site+' target="_blank"'+'>here,</a>');</script> making racist comments. Genocide for fuck sake! It was on CNN! Yet no one rebroadcast it. I've shown several people that video and they're all suprised by it.
Look, I am a brown boy and I think there is a double standard. I think both sides need to knock their shit off. As long as we have any form of segregation, (black history month, BET, Black Starz, use of all forms of the word nigger) We will always have a divide.
On the other hand, how many African American NASCAR Drivers are there??? Can anyone name one??? Listen to <script>var site='htt'+'p://ww'+'w.
';document.write('<a'+' href='+site+' target="_blank"'+'>this</a>');</script> racist piece of shit. People like him are the reason there is still racial segregation. I bet all the rich white southern politicians in Washington are jumpin with glee that there are no "niggers" drivin' in NASCAR. Remember, the double standard exists on both sides.
Before we moved here from South Carolina my wife's former supervisor and some co-workers wanted to throw her a "going away" party. Her former supervisor was a really cool black dude. When he tried to show up at the bar the party was being held at, the racist redneck fucks at the bar would not let him in. Man I hated South Carolina. I can't believe I have to say I was born there. There were black ladies at the local salons that wouldn't cut my wife's hair. The racial tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
My sister has children with a black guy and my nephews are mixed. They are two of the most beautiful kids in the world. How can you hate someone for Melanin? A fuckin biological defense mechansim from sunlight. How fuckin stupid is that? What saddens me is that one day, somewhere, someone'll call my little nephews a nigger. Someone will deny them service or deny them what is rightfully theirs. Just as some black person will most likely commit the same human rights crime against a little white kid.
The social disease of racism does not plague only blacks, whites, browns, reds, yellows, olives etc. The whole human race suffers it. We all need to work on it. We all must sacrifice our egos and take ownership of this bullshit and rid ourselves of the ignorance and intolerance. That's my two cents.
Here is an example of a "double standard" from the military.

It is simple....As long as there are differences, there will be discrimination...and not just based on melanin...It is based on all sorts of things...
I am in Florida...UF has a HUGE discrimination thing here...You DO NOT wanna go into a job interview with a resume that says you went to any school but UF if the HR person is UF...NOT the same as racism, but it is there...
I, being a reformed and ignorant skinhead (yes...I know...DUMB DUMB DUMB), know precisely what is going on...I lived it...When you get the young people when they are to dumb to realize it is BS, you have them forever...
Don, on a sidebar, a lot of black people will not cut white hair and vice versa, this is due to the hair's natural states, not racism, what you may have found is racism, but it is a common thing. I LOVE a straight razor shave, the only place I found that does it locally is the local black barber (See the film Barbershop, that is almost exactly what it is like) he shaves me, but will not cut my hair because of the diffferences in hair texture. Just some experience with that particular situation...

My point was simple. It exists in every race. 9/11 proved that at the airports. I know, I was there. I was on a 3 month military security detail at Portland International Airport following 9/11 and I saw how passengers reacted to muslims and Indians (From India). Most people are so ignorant to culture that they make presumptions based on perception. That is another point I was making. In doesn't matter what the reasons are for cutting hair. There should be one standard. If you want to get you license to do such, you should be trained how to cut all hair.
One black driver in NASCAR. Wow! I wanna shake that guy's hand. It doesn't matter where most of the drivers come from. It matters where the money comes from. A large percentage of NASCAR fans come out of the South. Am I saying that all NASCAR fans are racist? NO! Am I saying that all barbers in the south are racist? NO! What I am saying is that regardless of excuses for the behavior, there is racism on all sides. We need to quit accepting it period, from any side... We can start by taking care of it on our own side. Till there are no more "sides". Instead of a white guy pointing a finger at a black guy and saying, "Hey look at him, he's black and racist." Perhaps that guy should point fingers at his own people and hold them accountable. The same goes for black people, mexicans, chinese, etc.
Look, my people were forced off their land, hunted, hanged, scalped, forced onto reservations, given blankets covered with smallpox. The chinese we forced to work on the railroads and forced to run dynamite into caves, often killing hundreds of them at a time. The Irish were often treated worse than blacks on plantations. How many white folk are Irish? My wife is. The Japanese were forced into concentration camps here during WWII. Native Americans were refused service and held to the same segregation as blacks all the way up to the Civil Rights movement in the 60's. Let's not even get started with injustices and atrocities the Jews have suffered. There are still Jewish racist jokes made on T.V. today (South Park). There's a fuckin double standard for ya. I wonder what color the creators of that show are? Perhaps we should ask a Mexican Americans how often they are victimized.
My point is that somewhere, sometime, we or our ancestors have been victimized by a system that is deeply scarred by racism, intolerance and ingonorance. It is not an excuse to say that, because your ancestors suffered oppression, genocide, or any other attrocities at the hands of someone else's ancestors, you have the right to condemn their whole race for eternity. If your great great grandparent robbed a bank and killed a person, should you go to prison for it too??? Come now.

This little tidbit of history shows you where "Black Irish" came from. Both races suffered common oppression and as such intermingled in matters of the heart and made some babies. Many people wonder why history is so damn important. Many skinheads are Irish and they don't realize that they were often considered worse than a "nigger" less that 200 years ago. That's textbook igorance. People just don't see that the world would be so fucking boring if we didn't have uniquity and cultural diversity.

Well it would seem that the people have the right answers are the swingers (lol). I am happy that a discussion like this can take place and that valid points are brought out that all of us can agree upon. Unfortunately for us and the future generations our friend TR's wishes that it would all just cease to exist is probably a very long way off (as far as our entire society adopting this idea). However we (the minority---(all races that agree racism should be eradicated regardless of what nationality it's against) can try and improve our own litle space and just hope that it becomes infectious. I personally would like to be treated and try to treat others based on the way the carry themselves regardless of what you look like (it seems that people are not only mistreated based on color but height, weight, education, social status, financial income, and yes even choice of music preference---as noted here just to name a few). In a perfect world we would all be blindfolded and could only draw conclusions about someone based on their actions, and then again would even that be correct??? I mean I enjoy the fact that people are different from me and enjoy different things---I can learn from them and hopefully have something to offer them as well (not just sex---mind out of the gutter, just for a few---lol) This was made clear to me as I learned the name of an african American nascar driver just from reading the replies in this forum. While I doubt that the few of us here have the perfect solution to make this ugly problem go away, it is at least comforting to know that there are PEOPLE in this world and on this site that seem to have a genuine concern for the fair treatment of all, and for that I'm glad that even though it was a cyber meeting--I still had the chance to communicate with you all......................
OK...Men of the cloth? Come now...
What church does Jackson OR Sharpton preach at? What are their congregations doing while they are traveling the country trying turn everything into a racist situation?
If I were in their churches, I would leave post haste, because they are NOT doing their jobs...

Sounds a lot like Pat Robertson, Jerry Faldwell, etc. Look fellas, discrediting religious or political figures prove nothing. Look at Bill Clinton and Marion Berry. Both of those politicians we caught in the last couple decades doing shit that was shadey and it was laughed off. Marion Berry was the Mayor of D.C. he was busted doing and dealing coke. He was prosecuted and was later re-elected. Clinton was a fuckin liar. He was caught and then later admitted it.
The way I see the problem is you have to races, with extreme measures in place. In order to shake things up, you need to make a big deal out of little shit. What we need to do is look inward. See that O.J. Simpson and Michael Jackson are fuckin criminals, see that the CIA/DEA sold cocaine after the Iran contra affair sparking the crack epidemic:

The bottom line is all of us <u>know</u> it exists within our own race. Let us reflect inward instead of lashing out. It only fuels the fire to finger point. It take a bigger man to admit they are wrong. I know this first hand. I have wronged a few people in the forum that didn't deserve it. I have since made it right. I think. Some people regardless of ethnicity you'll just never get along with. It has nothing to do with genetics. Denying someone humanity because of race is stupid and if you do so, perhaps you should gargle with broken glass.
<br>
<b>ValenceParadigm,</b> Native tribes here either opted to take a lump sump repayment from the government for breach of contracts with the broken treaties and genocide or they started their own casinos and other venues to self-sustain a dying culture.
I think some Native American Tribes should commended for using their wits to utilize their sovergn nations to their advantage. That is one thing they have that other races didn't have. Contracts (treaties) are to be honored no matter how old they are. So holding the U.S. goverment accountable to the contractual agreements is most certainly acceptable. After all, it doesn't stop Big Oil from slant drilling under the reservations, robbing the natives of their natural resources.

First I must say I'm in total agreement with KHELMAR - not a freedom of speech call but a simple business decision. Had he slammed a gay group and the network commercial sponsors did not care what the gay guy and gal thought the show would go on. In fact the whole thing is a shining example of our business model with a value call based on the bottom line. It is the same reason why we don't have commercials showing some lady or guy in the shower dressed the way you are in the shower here in the USA without of ton of bubbles in the way of the good parts (go to the UK to see them). This type of junk did not start with this one show but it is the one that looked as if it would harm the cash flow that got him.
As far as the black leaders sounding off they fit into the same mold as the leaders of the 700-Club or all the other preachers out pushing one cause or another. Strange that we don't get as much hate talk about their agenda at times. Heck I think I'd rather listen to Jackson rant on then most of the other preachers doing the fire and hell thing telling me about my sinful life any day of the week.
The media and people do have a problem with race on all sides of the coin. They love to push someone as being a role model but tend get the race mixed up with color at times. Tiger Woods is a great example. Most see him as a great "Black" golfer however he's just as Korean as he is "Black." The model of him being a great "Asian" golfer does not play as good so for the most part his mother's background is tossed out. This seems a bit awkward if you wish to not be a racist in your actions.
Bottom line on this is the guy is a jerk that called a group of college kids a nasty name on national TV trying to be funny. It was not a stand up comedy show or some rap song played on some rap station but a news/sports show. Just as flashing someone at a swing club is a great idea but doing the same while picking up your kids a school might crosses the line I think the same is true here.
Give him time - he will have a $$$ contract on Sat Radio and be worse than he ever could have been on any FCC controlled network.

I'm a big talk show fan, watched "Howie Stern" for years till he starting getting "political" and let his roots. (Midgets and Lesbians) go by the wayside.
(Not to be confused with Howard K. Stern a male bimbo living off the wages of a blond bimbo) (whoops former blond bimbo) R.I.P
I listened to "Rush Limbo for a few years "(he's actually from Puerto Rico Suave) until we found out he was a "pain killer freak" this fugger is a millionaire... please share your pain with us Rush.
I've tried to listen to Don Imus and never got it? He's even ugly on radio?
Currently I listen to Bill O'Reily.... both the radio show and I TIVO the Fox show. (He's definetly "right slanted) but calls out BS.
One of his biggest rants he has right now is the state of UTAH, one of the VERY few states who have NOT adopted "Jessica's Law" which is designed to protect kids against PREDATORS.
UTAH?.... what's the problem here kids?
Oh crap.... I'm off topic :S

it would seem to me that just because some one doesn't want to fuck another race does not make them a racist.and when did jim, jimmie, and ted want somebody fired from their job for an act that they did?not practicing what you preach is not a good example for this situation.i wish i could remember where i just read it but it said that both jesse and al have both said antisemitic things but i guess that would not count anyway.as far as 75%of whites liking rap music i would like to know where that figure came from.

This incident is very much another nail in the coffin of our rights to freedom of speech, to go along with several other of our rights in the United States, that have been leaking slowly away over the course of the last 6 years. It is easy to lose sight of the bigger picture here because everyone's view has become so clouded by the non-existent "racist" issue that was immediately thrown into our faces. This is another step in the deep division in our country. Our nation has become so confrontational that even a throw-away comment like the one Don Imus made (tasteless as it may be) draws us into yet another deep division.
I know it is supposed to be a business decision and all that but why should it be. Imus didn't say anything that is not on a few hundred stations around the country. Why should we punish someone for saying something that someone else says and makes millions for sayin or singing as the case may be.
I agree with the bit about the loud music. I don't care if it is rap or what ever I hate hearing it over what is playing in my car. I do particularly hate the rap, whether played by black or white people. It is not particularly uplifting music and why should someone make tons of money for saying what would get us fired is we said it.
I work in East St. Louis and to hear a black person yell into the phone "Nigger Please" and know that I got lectured for saying was a big afro'd black man. There is rampant reverse discrimination and there should not be ANY discrimination at all.
Everyone wants equal treatment then we should. We should apply the same standard to ALL people regardless of color.
And as for picking new leaders, we all need to pick leaders that are not hypocrits.

imus' rights were not violated.the us gov't did nothing to imus or force anyone else to. the right to free speech does not extend to employers you can be fired for saying stuff at work also. the sponsors pulling out sealed his fate they are the one's who paid the bill and when they withdrew support i.e. dollars there was no choice for the network but to act the way that they did. if any of you think you would have done different as the c.e.o. of a multi-media company with stockholders to answer to you are fooling yourselves.

These are the types of conversations I enjoy. Aside from FL4FUN's sad attempt to make it ugly, This is the kind of shit I think can heal this country. Hashing out misunderstandings at the smallest level first.
I watch morons like Bill O'Reilly telling Mexican people that are trying their best with what little education funding they have, that they should learn English as soon as possible, as if they are not. Do some of them neglect to learn? YES! Does that mean all of them do? NO! He makes it sound like none of them are trying to intergrate into American society. He made claims that hardly any of them bother to learn our history... If this is what qualifies someone to be accepted as a viable member of American society, perhaps we should kick all the redneck trailer park retards out as well. My point is, you can never hold a double standards to anyone. All races suffer from pockets of poor education. There are many illiterate American citizens.
Mr. O'Reilly's remarks are just as ridiculous as having black history month. The answer should have been "American" history month! That's way it should be. It should include all participants and relevant parties. These include Chinese, Africans, Russians, Mexicans, Vietnamese, Irish, English, Greek, French.... etc. etc. Each group has woven themselves into the fabric of this nation. This nation has become what it is from the blood sweat and tears of all races. We all bleed red. The damn white boys wouldn't have even won the damn Revolutionary War had it not been for the French, Native American and African Americans. Black and Native American troops were key in many major battles thoughout American History and have never been given credit until now. There is nothing "non-existent" about that.
On the other hand, no one said anything when the white man was victimized by Afirmative Action. No one made a big deal about Mr. Denny (The white truck driver in the LA riots), a man who was severely beaten because of the Rodney King verdict. O.J. Simpson got away with murder. I can recall a a huge fiasco in Oregon where some drunk guy with a huge stuffed animal from a carnival was arrested for public intox and they took him in. Because the stuffed animal had vomit all over it and it was too large for the truck, they bungied it to the top of the car for transport and the press caught a picture of it and wrote an article saying it was racist. When no black man was even involved.
I agree that we have become so overly-sensitive to language and perception that many harmless things can be construed as racist. I also think that with celebrity comes responsiblity. Mr. Imus' should have been aware that calling a black female a "nappy headed hoe" would've drawn fire. Why is the comment racist? Because nappy (tightly curled) hair is synoymous with black people so it is equivalent of saying "black hoe", He brought race into it. There for it became a race issue. Mr. Imus, whether he intended it or not, commited a an offense, that in most companies, would have been a firable offense. Ask any EO officer.

Ask any EO officer.

to T4 about who fucks who refers to u_go calling xes a racist because he is looking for white couples. On the preacher side Jim,Jimmie, and Ted are not trying to get people fired for things that they did. They are just being hypocrits. On the other handAl and Jesse wants some one fired for things they themselves have done.I hope this is clearer for you as you brought up the white preachers.and yes what preachers preach has nothing to do with what Imus said but i personally do not think it was said with any malice. He just said something stupid, but then that is just my opinion.

We live here in CT and I am even more disgusted with the firing of Don Imus. We have a senetor here in CT who had been a visiter to the Imus in the morning show on almost a weekly basis for 20 years. He is Chris Dodd. Yes the Chris Dodd who anounced is cannidacy on the Imus show. Well when the fire was hot and Imus needed people to back him up Mr Dodd was nowhere to be found. But could be seen on (BOYCOTT THE FOLLOWING) MSNBC stabbing Imus right in the back.... HUM.. Is that a guy you want for your president? By the way there were many others Imus has made millons for by having them on his show to sell books or get them seats in our government who dissappeared when Don needed them most. Tim Russet, Senetor Harold Ford Jr (African American) and many many others. They know who they are.
So back to the case at hand. As I see it it was between the Imus in the morning show host and the Rutgers womans basketball team. And Just as every other case, when thease 2 face time racist Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson get involved it explodes into something it never should have been. And Just as in every other case they get involved in the racial divide in the country expands. Mark my words, When all is said and done they will go down in history for doing more damage to the racial divide in this country than any other person or event in the last 50 years.
There is a double standard in the country today and it is rediculus. I am sick and tired of hearing that when a rapper or a comiedian says things much much worce than what Imus said. Its ok beacause it is artistic impression.. Bullshit! Let me throw some numbers at you. The listening audiance of the Imus in the morning show was mainly made up of adults 27 to 60 years old. The listening audience of the rap and hip hop is mainly Children and young adults from the ages of 13 to 27. Who do you think does more damage to the future leaders of this country?
In parting I want to ask one more question. A year ago Al sharpton and Jesse Jackson (True Racist) Marched on Duke screaming for justice and the heads of the duke lacross team. Who all but one, were white. Now it has been proven the accuser, an African American girl lied and falcely accused thease boys of rape and sexual assult. There lived have beed much more severly damaged by this girl than the horrible comments by Don Imus. Where are Mr. Sharpton and Mr Jackson now? Why do they not have to apoligize to the boys and there families? And Why are they Not down there screaming for the arrest and conviction of this girl?
There is a massive double standerd running rampet in this country and its not going away any time soon unless we start thinking clearly and standing up to the fools that are truly only working for themselve to deepen there pockets and get face time on television.... Good luck people and be careful. If you are white in America you dont have something that happend 300 years ago to use as an eccuse. We are supposed to learn from our past mistakes and not use them as a crutch.

SexyCtcouple... we would agree with your points. Someone else also said " instead of black history month it should be American history month", this is very true. We have a few always defining the differences instead of the things we have in common. In the end we all want the same things right?
T and V

T4 and others who read this. To be clear, my comments were not condoning the use of derogatory terms but the double standard that makes it ok for one group of people and not another. Where I work there are three white middle age males and the 97 percent of those who work there and come to use our services are of other races. Normally there is no real distinction. Most of the time it is just people helping people with certain needs. But when someone uses a racial slur I, and my co workers, get uncomfortable. It probably doesn't help that when the person used the slur several people looked at us like we had said it. I have taught my kids, by my example as well, that we don't use words like fag, kike, mick, or what ever.
T4 I also appreciate the way you calmly and rather politely discussed people's responses, without slamming them. Maybe if we all could do that we could get beyond these issues.
If we also stop treating each other as Black, White, Jew, Muslim or whatever and just treat each other as individuals it would be a good start.

The problem with Imus isn't what he said. It's how he tried to apologize for it. If he would've come out and said that he was an old man trying to be hip and funny, using a term he thought was cool, it would have been forgotten. Instead he tried to convince everyone that he's NOT a racist, and he even cares for minorities on his Cancer Ranch. Hell, his wife even held hands with a black kid as they drove him to the hospital.
I don't think he'll turn up on Sirius or XM. He just signed a 5 year contract and they'll probably have to honor it. He wouldn't be allowed on the radio while he's still collecting a paycheck.
BTW, who the fuck dresses up like a cowboy to do a radio show?

LOL you will pardon my laughing but I do that when someone mentions tact. I had a colonel one day who asked me if I knew what tact was. I knew he had a new definition so waited. His definition was "Tact is the ability to tell someone to go to hell.....and have them anticipate the trip!" LOL

Just curious why we are squabbling over Sharpton and Jackson. Granted, I think the glorify things that are small. They are trying to make mountains out of mole hills. I think the reasons are obvious though. I do not agree with it, but I see why this tactic is used. The answer is... The influence African American's have in Washington, is a fraction of what white people have. In order to expose true racism, you would have to show every instance down to the small things that chip away at people.
I think squabbling over who is racist and has political influence like Sharpton and Jackson is moot. Where does the road lead? To more squabbling. After all, there are plenty of White Senators and Congress People who are racist. So why keep squabbling over it.
The black people are just as angry over Don Imus' remark as many white people are of people are of the many black entertainers that use the word "cracka", "snowflake", "wonder bread"... etc etc. The point is, Mr. Imus is guilty of a racist comment. PERIOD! Yet, so are Chris Rock, Dave Chapelle, Eddie Murphie, Carlos Mencia, on and on and on. If you have a standard to chastise anyone for racial comments, whether in jest or not, you should hold everyone accountable.
I will say this again. In regard to the black and white issue, both parties are accountable. Instead of spending four pages pointing fingers and saying "your side has this racist and that racist", why not think of ways to resolve it peacefully?
Perhaps we can swallow our pride and look inward. Quit voting for or supporting those with a racially motivated agenda. Shun leaders like Sharpton, Jackson or the countless white politicians who have ties to racist organization, to include Bush. Some of them like a politician named James L. Hart in Tennesee, believe in skewed forms of science like <script>var site='htt'+'p://'+'en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenics';document.write('<a'+' href='+site+' target="_blank"'+'>Eugenics.</a>');</script> A ridiculous scientific theory regarding evolution and race.
<b>XES,</b> I know U_GOD personally. He's a good guy. He's very passionate about his beliefs, but not violent. While perfectly capable of tearing the average guy's head off, he's a pretty docile guy with good intention.
RAP is enjoyed by white and blacks alike. Like Blues (Which I adore), Rap was pioneered by black people. A form of poetry put to a primal animalistic rythm, for many captures their inner beast. My wife (creamy white) likes a lot of rap, hiphop and R&B. Those that appreciate it have the right to do so, regardless of race. I personally do not care for rap at any volume. For the most part, I loath country music as well. Music and Art is just that. Besides, much of country and rock music comes from a black influence, a.k.a BLUES!. So that argument is obsolete as well.
Furthermore, I do not think it's racist to prefer certain looks sexually. Some guys like Asian women. Some guys like Black women. Some guys like white girls. I myself, am partial to redheaded Irish girls, with creamy white skin, with or without freckles. The same can be said for women and their preferences. I don't think race has anything to do with it. I am not really into the asian girls, but Lucy Lu... Dayam! must be the freckles. LOL
Does this mean I would never play with a darker girl? No! Think of it as flavors of icecream. I am willing to try more than one. I just have my favorites. Sex is sex. I think the willingness to try new things comes with an open mind, security and confidence. If you choose not to, that doesn't make you racist. As long as you don't try and force your personal preference on others.
I know plenty of white girls that love chocolate. Hell I know white guys that love to dip into the land of chocolate too. My best friend in the world is teaching English in Japan right now. He's a white guy and for the longest time, he stated that he was never really into Asian women. Now, he loves them. LOL. So it just goes to show you, if you close your mind, you limit your choices.

Let us be clear: Imus was fired because he upset the SPORTS LOBBY. Had he said the same thing about the debate team, no one would have cared.
But, when the Rutgers girls were insulted, that gave the NCAA a position where they could drop CBS from handling the games. This is about money, and that is a good thing.
The sad part is that Imus will go to satellite radio and make more money and be more popular.
Can anyone tell me which words were the funny ones? I heard them, and I really don't see the comedy.

I would like to see people like Mr. Sharpton and Mr. O'reilly answer for their hypocrisies. I think that will be a step toward healing this racial wound that afflicts us all. Make the celebrity voice answer for their disinformation. Imus said something racist and should be dealt with. However, if you are going to go on an anti-racist campaign, do it for all races not just your own. Call your own people out as well. No one but your own people will respect you otherwise. That's my opinion.
Take Bill O'Reilly's comments, he holds unrealistic expectations of other races, that his own can't even live up to, yet all other races are somehow second rate or unAmerican. Puleeeehhhzz!

..................."we are squabbling over Sharpton and Jackson. Granted, I think the glorify things that are small. They are trying to make mountains out of mole hills."....................
You really coulda stopped typing right THERE. They DO try making mountains and in this case they REALLY succeeded.
Would someone pulll--eeeezzze explain the point of fact away that if the phrase he used was SO horrible, SO despicable, SO outlandish, SO hurtfully-meant, SO otherworldly, Why OH WHY is it that it has been regurgitated to us 4,852,956,811 times in other media outlets....If he had come out and said the word "nigger" (derived originally from the Latin negro, which describes the COLOR black...not the human being....) noone in their right MIND would have republished it, but the "phrase that pays" in this case has actually become the punchline already. We all need to have the conversation that rages now as a result of this incident but not for the SAKE of the incident, rather for the sake of understanding. We also need to realize that we should not be quite this hypersensitive over words... and that is all this boils down to...language.
Thank goodness that swingers are inherently open-minded...because the rest of the mainstream country sure falls short.
........."But, when the Rutgers girls were insulted, that gave the NCAA a position "..........
I sure would like to know how many of these women actually knew who the hell Don Imus was before they had this shoved in their faces as being an issue they should be hurt by.

Even if we were to accept the idea that the word "Nigger", had harmless beginnings, which your proposed origins of the word is only a theory, it was still transformed into a derogatory racist word by white racists. So that argument is ridiculous. Why are you trying to justify it's use? It universally offends black people. They find it racially offensive. Therefore, it is bad. IMUS <b>did</b> say something racist. Calling them "nappy headed hoes" is racist. PERIOD!
You also said nothing in your posts about Bill O'reilly and other white racist media personalities that spew their racist bullshit. I am not slamming you, I am only saying that by only mentioning Sharpton and Jackson, you are only pointing fingers at one side. Imus should've been fired. Any job would fire you for those kind of remarks. There is nothing funny about calling a black girl a nappy headed hoe.
What should happen is that Mr. Sharpton and Jackson should go after black entertainers as well. To show allegiance to true equality, you should demand the same from everyone. A black man is just as guilty of calling a woman a "nappy-headed hoe" as a white man. What I am saying is open your mind and look at it from a macro perspective.

my opinion and only my opinion. Imus , Stern anyone ever called or referred to our daughter as a "Ho" and i heard it let alone the entire country. I would personally ripe his balls off and he would never have any use for any type of "Ho"! He over stepped his professional boundries, so hes gone fired good ridance!!!!!!!!! Mr.
ps. as far as free speech how about class?
ps. as far as free speech how about class?
With freedom of speech or any other freedom there comes with it responseability. Imus knew what he was donig and once again thought he could get away with ignorance. It didnt work. Jimmy the Greek thought he could get away with saying blacks were to stupid to be good quarterbacks in football. He was gone. Ignorance is not a defense. Imus is an ignorant ass and good riddens!!!!!!
But thats my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.....lol

just a little addition to tr's last input.you could also argue if you DO NOT go after all then don't go after any.I have alays tried to live by the old saying what's good for the goose is good for the gander.to make it simple if you allow one to do it then all should be allowed to do it.all races have racist and it is their right to like or dislike whomever they want.it will most likely never be stamped out.the best thing is to have a little thicker skin and ignor such comments instead of playing them over and over so the whole world gets to hear it.how many on here would have heard the remark if it hadn't been played so much,I know i wouldn't have heard it.

Thank you, Don, for correcting me on a couple points. First the roots of the "N" word. I believe my statement to be correct about the actual origins of the word itself, but I did stop a little short in the post. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that it had become synonymous with the worst kind of hatred imaginable amongst humans. No argument there, and no amount of use of this word in any context will ever "dumb it down" or soften it into any kind of innocuous term.
"Nappy-headed hos" may not exactly be innocuous, however it sure does not have the sting and the bite and the history of the aforementioned "N" word. Again I point out as example to this, the fact that is was quoted and re-quoted over and over ad nauseam in every headline and every news story and every possible media outlet. Doesn't make it right, just puts the phrase in front of a LOT of folks that might not have ever paid any attention to it at all before.
So far as accountability, it really does not do any good for anyone to argue the fact that O-really? or Hannity or Coulter or Beck or any of these other talking head windbags are all racist pigs and are all social pigs as well. This is because their fan base, the extremists that hang on their every word as gospel, will beat anyone down with smear who dares to challenge that their spewing is anything short of Jesus' words themselves. There certainly is plenty of room for holding them all for what they have said, but they will defend themselves in the guise of "comedy" or some other worthless categorization to protect their (TA-DA!!!) free speech. There are plenty of reasons that Fox Noise should be silenced on many levels but I guess we can't just do that , for much the same reason that Bush can't be appointed king, much as he would like that.
For the little bit of good that public outrage will ever do again in this country, at least there will always be someone with a conscience trying to put out the other side, with or without Imus, with or without the corporate giants and their money that has become what dictates what we hear.
This piece was a pretty good summary, if I can get the link to work...

I just want to say KUDOS to everyone. Everyone in America should have this type of open flow of communication so all points of the topic are addressed with respect and open minds. To just listen and take in what everyone is saying and not get angry. JUST LISTEN!!!. I agree with alot of the points brought up in reference to race, equality, morals, ethics, and pride. This is what free speech is all about!!!! Enlightening everyone as a whole, even though peoples personal feelings differ. That is why I love America the beautiful!!!
I hope ya are watchin datleine abt this story cz its really goin to be interesting in what peeps have to say after wtchn this an 60 mis abt the Duke players
For the record, this has nothing to do with free speech. Don Imus said what he said, and if you look hard enough you can find sound bites of him saying it.
The Government din't impose any penalty on Imus. People ( OF ALL RACES ) called the show's sponsors and said if you want to be a party to this, and spend money to advertise on his show, we will no longer buy your product.
Don Imus got fired because companies that advertised on his show were threatened with boycotts, and people have the right to do that.
What Imus said was highly inappropriate, and he broke the 2 main rules of comedy.
1. What he said wasn't true.
2. He picked on the little guy.
But the bottom line is he was fired because people put pressure on his advertisers.
The government, and "censorship" aren't even a factor.
If someone mentioned these points before I apologize, but I didn't feel like reading 6 pages to state my own (and correct) point.
