I've been playing with this for a week or two now, and several of our posts have vanished from Google and none of the new ones have appeared.
Kind of a pain, but I just create a text file and cut/paste the code into the post, Save, edit and save again. That inserts the HTML into the post so the search engines won't index the post.
(Thanks Don! Couldn't have done it if you were banned!)
Insert the following code (Place a <b> < </b> at the beginning and a <b> > </b> at the end of the code) at the top of your post.
<b>meta http-equiv="robots" content="noindex"</b>
and
<b>meta http-equiv="pragma" content="nocache"</b>
It should look like this:

Enjoy, let's see if it works!
In reality...this code should be on all pages of the site with personal information and a robots.txt file should be in use...but hey! I'm not the Admin!
Power to the People..Yo!

It takes time to kick in. Google goes through and clears out their stuff in about a week or so. Two at most.
Unfortunately, it's not an instant fix.

Good idea however my guess is it won't do too much if anything. I have not tried to test it because I have stopped posting any pictures in the forum if they give away anything about us I don't want open to the non member of the site. The code you are showing is normally placed in a part of a web page you do not see called the "head." This part holds the META tag that tells the search engines what the page is about in a short paragraph and key words the author wants to have the page indexed for searches. Some of the robots look for this code and stop indexing the page but my guess is putting the code in a posting would put it somewhere in the body of the web page and the robots would ignore it. I could be wrong and the site somehow will allow it to get pushed up to the header. A better way for the pages not to get listed is a small text file put in the the sites root directory that tells the robots what to look for and what to ignore. I have several web pages I made for my job where we wanted some pages to show up and some to be ignored. In the end the text file worked best and allowed for selected pages to show up as we wanted. This however can only be done by the web designer and only if they do not wish pages such as the forum to not be indexed.
Truth is for commercial reasons the more a site shows up on a search the better chance it will draw a varied audience and thus more money. Porn sites had perfected the art of redirected misspelling of a site name to a near art and key words in a tag that for a while put them at the top of most searches. They have backed off somewhat due to pressure to not pull in those that do not want to see porn. You used to get 90% porn listings on a simple search of "black hole" but now they have cleaned it up and stopped most of that type of marketing. (Now Black Ho is still open for porn - you can't skip too many letters and not get a shock) Even www.whitehouse.com (the real Whitehouse is .gov) which once was a porn site is now some boring people search page. It was somewhat of a standing joke during the Clinton years that maybe they were both the "Official" Whitehouse site <g>.
Some sties chose to protect this type of postings and some do not - a call by those that run the show and the value of being seen. One swing site that is a clone of this site (or if you belong to the other site this is a clone of their site - for a time we belonged to both) had the same type of showings on a search. I could type a user name and the site name and get all the forum discussions. From what I have seen you do not get the listing for the other site now other than pages users have set for public viewing. Their admin traded some extra exposure on the search engines for a bit more privacy. This may limit the number of new users and for some be a negative or keep private this type of discussion and be a positive for some users. The choice is to have a larger presence on the search engines or more privacy for all site users - that simple. After that it becomes a user's choice to post or not to post knowing everything in the posting may be indexed for public consumption. There is a fairly high level of privacy possible on the Internet contrary to some discussions here (nothing is 100% but my bank account does not show up on a Google Search). I expect the bank to protect my information however I know that this site will not do the same and that is their choice so I adjust what I do on the site.
I doubt putting this tag in a posting will give you any less change of having a picture you put in the forum from showing up in a search but if you do want to post private information in a public forum it's at least worth a try. (A bit like the person falling off a buiding trying to flap his arms - can't hurt to try!) The other option, other than not positing here, is search for a site that does not expose your information as much and join.

Swingtide,
I've been using this tactic on other sites where I don't have access to the headers for years. No only to block Google cache but to do Keywording also.
It works great. Can't argue with success, now can you?
Besides, does it hurt?

Kinbiku - I agree 100% - it can't hurt anything to try :-) However I think we'll still avoid some types of postings in a public forum.
I wonder if all postings on a forum would not be indexed or just one posting? All postings show up when you hit a searched link. I see your posting of Feb 7, 2007 has been indexed so if you just started doing it on this site maybe newer postings will not pop up.
Edit - looking at the code behind the page it does look like the action does put some type of usable tag on the posting - your entry had the following showing prior to the start of the text (less the < and > brackets)
- meta http-equiv="robots" content="noindex" - meta http-equiv="pragma" content="nocache" -
While the page is searched maybe your entry is ignored?

Yeah, I'm careful about what pics I put in the forum now...and I've never put in face pics - regardless.
I have been putting the code in for about 2 weeks now. Seems to be working.
Theoretically, it should block all of the posts in that thread...who knows.

Don, how come Google can find my screen name in the posts if it has already been deleted? I am not really computer literate and am frustrated by this.
when I Google my old screen name, it finds my new posts and new screen name, Is there something I can do with my profile to make it not coincide with the old screen name? Will it eventually stop finding it, or is it like this forever?
