We love any vid that a woman gets naked in, but as far as PETA goes they lost any respect from me when I heard their President say that she would be against a cure for cancer if they had to test it on animals. In my opinion that is just plain crazy talk.

The food lobby is VERY powerful in Washington. Did you know, for example, that the FDA does have the power to recall a drug that they know will cause health problems but does NOT have the power to recall a batch of meat that they know will cause disease and possibly death?

Mrs. Genes and I aren't radical by any means, but our small contribution to the cause is that we stopped frequenting fast food joints about 4 years ago. Remove their money and you remove their power in Washington. Admittedly we could do a lot more, but frequenting local joints hasn't really changed our lifestyle and makes us feel good about who is getting our money.
As for cruelty to animals in general, some of the comments here reveal a severe lack of ability to imagine what the life of a creature means. The life of a pig might not be very important to you, but it's pretty fucking important to the pig. It's as important to the pig as yours is to you. Pigs are thought to have intelligence comparable to a 3 or 4 year old HUMAN child. Those of us with children have seen how advanced our children are at that age.
Eating more veggies wouldn't be a bad thing for the planet, either. It takes 16kg of grain to produce 1kg of beef. The same area of land can feed 20 times as many people eating a vegetarian diet than a meat diet. 75% - 80% of corn, barley, sorghum and oats produced are to feed animals, not people. The world's cattle alone consume enough food to feed more than the entire human population of earth. It takes more than 25,000 liters of water to produce 1 kg of beef. It takes 200 times more water to make a pound of beef than a pound of potatoes. If the high water cost were not subsidized by uncle sam, the cheapest hamburger would cost $110/kg. Given my statistic on the war thread about human population growth, how much longer can this last?
Not to mention the greenhouse gasses warming up our planetfrom our massive livestock stores (methane gas is a MAJOR contribution to global warming). Not to mention myriad other reasons I don't even have time to touch on.
Anyway, not saying I'm exemplary in this regard, but I'm glad PETA and other organizations are spreading awareness about animal cruelty. We need more, not less of that message.

As I have stated I grew up on a farm in which we raise hogs, pigs, what ever you would like to call them. Farrowing to finish was our operation, I really find it hard to believe that a pig has the intelligence of a 3 to 4 year old human. I dont think so..

For thoes that do not know what a farrowing to finish operation is, We took sows, (starting out as guilts (female)) turned them in with the boars (males not casterated) then in a couple of months you have babies (piglets) What I am getting at , when the sow is at the end of her gestation period we put them in crates. Maybe 18 inches wide by 6 feet long. she can stand and lay down move forward and back a little till she gives birth. this is so she doesnt lay on the little ones and squash them. yes some get crippled and die in these crates. Not cruel just the way its done and the pig has no choice. If anyone would like to care for the sow in a free roaming way be my guest. We had a neighbor that was helping and he was about ate by a sow with pigletts.. they are rather mean when there are little ones around. However that is not something a steel pipe or a good hickory sitck across their nose will not cure.
For the grain to meat ratio.. I dont know but I wouldnt make me stop eating meat, I like it to much.

You have the right to purchase what you want, there are lots of products that don't support animal cruilty. Buy them, put the others out of busisurvival of the fittest. ness. I support and donate to Greenpeace because I belive in what they do, PETA is an entirely different animal...Rich Nature has naver been fair.
We all have our beliefs on what is right and what is wrong. It is how we express them that counts. Money really does talk. One person is a drop in a bucket, its when we all add to the bucket that we can be heard. Actions do speak louder than words. So if its fast food/global warming/unethical behavior etc...it really is what you are willing to do stop it that counts.

Didn't this thread have to do with PETA? As usual by about page 5 of almost all threads it degrades into personal attack all because someone got all hurt in the left butt cheek. I'm sorry, but when you pay a man who teaches fire bombing to protesters, anything you do from that point on cannot be labled good. PETA crossed that line a long time ago.
When PETA, and other organizations for that matter, use unsavory and violent means to get their point across, they become just as bad as the people they are protesting.
Consider the wonderful "Christian" Eric Rudolph who bombed abortion clinics and killed 3 people and injured others all because he believes no one has teh right to choose.
Every escalation of over-zealousness ends up with a price and a lot of times that has been a human price all because someone decided their view and beliefs were worth someone dying, yet they'd be the last person to lay down their life in protest.
My mother has a degenerative liver problem from contacting hepatitis C - and before anyone jumps in and says she should stoped drinking -( she's had 5 alcoholic drinks in her lifetime )- she got it from bad shellfish, and if they told me tomorrow that they had to do testing on a 100 animals and they might die to cure, I'd be all for it.
I am not an animal hater by no means and senseless slaughter and torture are very wrong, and so is PETA

Except PETA never says they have ever euthanized animals.....I don't think PETA does any thing in conjunction with the Humane Society and would never lump them together belief-wise.

BTW I am 1/4 Native American from the San Gabrielino Tribe and I don't think having Native American ancestry makes one any more humane in animal treatment. It is a moral decision and sometimes people with good morals do bad things - I don;t think Ingrid Newkirk has either, I think she shoudl be shut down and have more people channel their energy to the Humane Society
