With the New Year upon us, I thought it would be time for a public service announcement. Let's remember to not drink and drive this weekend (or ANY time for that matter.)
I'm not one of those "you-should-never-drink-because-alcohol-is-evil" types. I love to drink with friends. But the one thing we should all do is pony up our keys or get a ride. Here in Utah this Christmas, a mom and two of her children were killed by a drunk driver. In fact, we had 9 fatalities on Utah roads in 10 days!
It takes a lot for some of us to fork over the keys. Stand up for what's right. If you see someone that is obviously intoxicated getting into a car, ask for their keys. Call them a cab or have someone bring them home. If they refuse, get beligerant, or want to fight, just call the police. Obviously, they were not a friend to begin with!
Seriously folks, I'm sure we have all said, "I won't drink and drive." I can't tell you how many times I've heard that from friends. And guess what, they call later to come bail them out of jail after I have offered them a ride home before getting arrested. I'd rather a friend spend a night in jail and get a DUI than spend a lifetime regretting taking out a family.
So this New Years, celebrate your pants off (after all, this is swingular!), but do it safely (yeah, that includes condoms too!) LOL
Final thought: A $100 cab ride is cheaper than an attorney!
Happy 2007
