I just received an e-mail form Africa. From an area that is known for its Diamond wars. It read that my late uncle has listed me in his will. And they wanted personal info in order to give me my inhairitance.
If the email was sent from a Swingular account, contact the Administrator and they will delete the account. If it was through another service, then contact them and block the offenders email addy. Unfortunately, the world is full of dickheads doing this kinda shit. It's good that you are wise enough not to fall for the bullshit. Good luck man.

There was a program on the TV a couple weeks ago now, I believe it was Primetime or one of the magazine shows. They responded to one of these same type e-mails and set up a meeting (money and all) and got the guy on camera. These scams like this one are all over the internet, and it just seems to get worse.
Most know enough not to answer to e-mails from anyone (including your bank) with personal information. But the latest of technology makes it bigger. I read where scammers are using VOIP telephone accounts and actually calling people looking for credit and other financial information. As the article pointed up it is easy to sniff out the e-mails, but it is surprising how differently people will react to an authoritative voice on the phone.
Make sure to share that story with people around you too, and help to keep folks (and don't forget, especially our elder loved ones!) aware and safe from scams like this.

This type of thing is also driving up the insurance costs on credit cards.
We get those emails all the time. Two came from this site. One was a russian woman(probably a guy) trying to scam me. That TV program was amazing to see how they do it. Can't be too careful now.
I get those all the time in my personal e-mail.
What dateline was it, that had a story on it. I would really like to see it. I have heard alot about the "phishing" that is going on, but not really about this.
Can someone help me out a bit:-)
Thanks!

Go over to the "african scams" posts. The address to ABC news is there. They all just sit around in internet cafes on the pc's and write and send out their scams. They use special software that exposes our email addresses. They even arrange to buy cars, boats etc here in the USA and pay for them with fake money orders and cashiers checks. I had one of them try to buy my boat that way. I sent the FBI after them.
