Funny. The original PETA.org was exactly that: People Eating Tasty Animals! The PETA people were very very angry and sued the guy who registered and used the site for that purpose. Imagine them without a sense of humor.
However, the law does. About a year ago, I read that members of the PETA chapter in Virginia were charged with cruelty to animals for "euthanizing" puppies that they claimed they were taking to adopting households. Ok, the law doesn't have a sense of humor, just irony.
