## Search

We've re-engineered the search feature to deliver more precise results and added an auto-save function for your previous search criteria.

As we continue to enhance the search feature, you can look forward to more options to refine your results. These include a best match scoring system and the ability to filter by members with recent activity.

### Unactivated Features
- Search by most recent activity.
- Best match search.
- Search members who have photos or videos.
- Search members who are verified by Real or VIP.
- Search unsubscribed vs subscribed.
## Messages

The new messages feature, replacing the old site's mailbox, adopts a modern messaging approach similar to smartphone apps. It's designed for user-friendly, real-time conversations.

You can see messages appear in real-time and know when the other person is typing. Note that these real-time features only work when both users are on the beta site.

The feature uses infinite scrolling to display the latest conversations and messages, loading more as you scroll. A basic search function lets you find specific conversations, and an emoji picker adds fun to your messages. The photo attachment feature is still available.

Deleting messages and conversations has become easier as well with inline message selection and swipe to delete entire conversations.

In line with our redesign, we've added _@_ mention functionality. When you mention a user in a message, it automatically creates a link to their profile.

We're continuously working to improve the messaging feature and add more functionalities that enhance your experience. Future updates may include group messaging and more advanced search options.

## Roles & Permissions

Swingular was originally built as a basic user-based system with user-level controls that determined what features a member did or didn't have access to. While this worked for many years, this prevented us from implementing other features that didn't need a traditional user or from adding proper moderators to areas like forums.

In the beta, we have added roles and permissions which give us greater control and granularity over access so we can add some of these new and incredible features.

Currently, you may (or may not) see this being used in the forums as we have implemented the new moderator features.
## Forums

The forums have had a much needed facelift. Not only to align with the updated UI of the rest of the site but in terms of how the forums function.

Currently activated features:

- Sorting
- Search
- Volunteer moderation
- Liking comments/messages
- Voting has been updated and reimplemented. If the general member base down votes a message, it will automatically hide for others but be available if the member chooses to view it.
- @ mentions
- Markdown and BBCode support

Upcoming forum features:

- Local and globally based forum topics to keep the local noise away from other regions.
## Responsive Design

The new website was designed with a mobile-first approach. What this means is that it will look and function correctly on any device and screen size.

- Responsive, mobile-friendly, user interface (UI).
- Features work with touch screens, mice and keyboards.
