Swingers Forum - Lake powell houseboat trip...

Previous Post Next Post
We have a newer houseboat on Lake Powell, very new, too many features to list (including starlink) and considerably large. We are planning on doing an LS trip with several of our friends this August. It will be LS only couples with a very few select (very select and well vetted singles). We are looking to possibly open this up to some new friends/couples this year (there is a cost to cover expenses, food, entertainment, gas, etc). Curious how many people would be interested in something like this, as well as what are acceptable accommodations. We have a few staterooms left, a cuddy cabin, and of course air mattresses/sofa couches available. It's 6 day long trip in mid august. Pictures of boat and fun toys available if you are curious.

Would be curious on some input of what people think are too many and what is acceptable accommodations for everyone? Has anyone ever done something like this before? Who is crazy enough to go out with a bunch of crazies, are we crazy for doing this?
Sounds like a very fun event, given you know that those who will attend, can behave, and have the highest regard to your property and the other guest. Perhaps if you have an eject button for anyone who violates your expectations and rules. It would also be beneficial to be able to see a guest list. Just in the matter, what if some have met before and not exactly the most comfortable to be around for 6 days. IE; if my ex and her husband was on there, NOPE, hahaha
We have been on several LS houseboat trips at Lake Mead and also straight family houseboat trips on Powell. Everything from here said to help with a smooth and fun trip! People need to know a few things about these types of trips. It takes a crew to operate a HB...anchoring, loading, unloading , food prep, cleaning up and dumping the holding tanks, don't expect to come and be waited on, everyone needs to pitch in. As far as the LS part goes, people need to realize 6 days is a long trip in close quarters with hot temperatures and probably lots of drinking. Jealously can happen between couples. If you and your partner have jealously problems...you shouldn't go. 3 things that can't be controlled by the organizers of this kind of trip...mechanical problems, weather and illness. We would love to be invited! 😉
Oh...and 8-10 is the minimum ...16 probably optimum. Of course that depends on the size of the boat too. You also need to realize August is monsoon season! The later in August the better.
We used to attend something similar for several years. We were together with a group of HOTBOATERS that would do poker runs, water ski and have a big bbq. There were always atleast 5 more houseboats. The problems are minor when everyone works together and helps. What was nice is the person who took charge of the houseboat calculated a very close estimate of what the expenses would be for everyone prior to going. (Gas, food, boat rental, etc). Everyone paid a 50 percent deposit prior that gave the organizers enough money to make sure all the supplies were purchased. At the end we all, (those who used the houseboat), helped clean the boat and then settled up on the balance. Depending upon how much gas we used and surplus supplies, the amount could vary a little. We were lucky, we all got along GREAT and what an experience. It was fantastic. Even those who slept on the beach or on the party deck left happy. It works out best if you have a boat or three to go explore the channels.
As Lake Powell locals in the LS this is something we really want to do! We talked to you a little bit about it last year. We are in if you think we would make the cut!! We would have no problem helping out and sharing the costs, but would probably bring our own boat.

Yes we would be doing a meet up for those that are local. We are cautious and can get a good feel for who would move or not. But yeah an ejection drone would be amazing!

Yeah we are drama free and would say our friends are too for the most part. So if you are not please do not come on a boat for 6 days. We have ski boats, jet skis, paddle boards etc. We pay for services so clean up is easy. Anchoring is the biggest chore but will probably pay for the beach bag service so it will only be clean up after yourself and loading/unloading. We are based out of antelope so we get the golf cart services which make it so much easier. This is truly a first class experience.
I would be interested and would be willing to go through any vetting process you have in mind.

How did they handle sleeping arrangements? After 16 we are resorting to air mattesses and couches or beach. With monsoon season (which we have experienced many times) you can't do up top sleeping.

We have all the toys plus. We have a pretty good understanding at cost as this isn't our first time just our first time doing LS. Should be a fun time!
Utahldscouple, I realize you are probably well versed at Lake Powell and the pros/cons. I hope to not have offended you if I did. Simply sharing our experiences for some who may not have been privileged to enjoy Powell. As for LS, we had a mix of vanilla and LS. Alot of the vanilla opened up and played nude in the water and sand, just no physical contact. Harbor Patrol stopped by and told us as long as we didn't expose our activities to any youth, we were okay. Because we were camped on the beach with the boats and not out on the lake, they left us alone.

No offense taken at all. Just clarifying. We definitely know you have to get up front $ that is non refundable unless you find a suitable replacement, which shouldn't be difficult. We have done many LS group trips we have coordinated and learned that one early on. But overall this should be an easy experience all equipment is newer and we have a mechanical/hydraulic engineer (field engineer title so knows how to fix 💩)! Good to know on nudity. We don't expect many clothed people but where we usually go there is no one close!
We are one of the originals that put the “Powell Fest” party on that Hym4Cyn has mentioned. We did it for several years and had people from all over come in to participate from several different LS sites. They were ALLWAYS a great time! We only ever had to vote one couple off of the Island as you may say that we can remember in all of the years.
If you have any questions, you know how to contact us.
We have great memories and still stay connected with many of the people that attended.
Good luck and of course- have fun and make great memories.

Definitely open to adding a few other options for people to join. A mini LS cruise experience!

The LS cruises were only 5 couples per boat. 4 staterooms and one couple on top deck. On the family trips we only used the staterooms for clothing, changing, and storing Ng bedding during the day. We always took the back deck. One couple took the front deck. And everyone else was in the top deck with an occasional couple in the salon on the futon. We have had as many as 21 on the family trips. If it rains we just got cozy in the salon and then we did use the staterooms.

We have a few more staterooms so we will probably have 8-10 couples with some singles. We have two salons upper and lower so plenty of room to get cozy. Do you still do the LS trips?

We've taken a weekend houseboat trip with a very large and fun group to Powell a few years ago and it was the best experience. The houseboat we were on only had 4 bedrooms, all of which already spoken for. So the rest of us crashed under the canopy on the roof on either air mattresses or sofa cushions. We all paid a share for the houseboat and because there were so many of us, we each brought one meal for everyone to share. What an amazing experience.

Great to know! Our houseboat will house a little more. That is the biggest quandary is a lot of people want private rooms but we are limited to 8 of those. The rest would need to do as you say which still is an amazing experience if you get to do that. We are use to putting people everywhere but it's what people are comfortable with or not. Heck some even do beach camping with their own tents and gear, if you get the right space (which hopefully our favorite place isn't occupied when we get there) wind really isn't much of an issue it's more the rain. We are already planning some good theme nights (Thank you BUTTABING for some great ideas). Any thing that you found worked well or things you would do differently?

If this question is directed to us, the one thing that we both agreed on was the hosts did a great job on the invites and were very selective on who. We did know a few couples there but most we never met before. The hosts selected people who they thought would get along well with others and who would help make it a fun and memorable trip. So the hosts made that trip what it was. The only thing we would've done differently would be to spend the entire week with all of them and not just the weekend. Hope your trip is just as memorable as ours was.
Speaking of theme nights. On one of the LS houseboat trips we were on , we held an ice cream social on the first afternoon ( hard to keep ice cream cold on hot days).
We used a 6x12 blow up plastic pool on the roof and the ladies climbed in and spread ice cream, toppings and whip cream on each other. There was a lot of licking going on also. When they were finished the ladies came over to the slide where I had the privilege of washing their bodies with the hose. It was going really great until the Rangers showed up with guns drawn, it appeared that one of the guest liked to put dry ice in an empty water bottle and sink it, as the pressure got high it would go boom. Someone called the Ranger and said we were shooting guns.. Needless to say, the ice cream social was a great ice breaker.
