What do you all think of Kik? A while back it almost went away. They saved it. And now it’s nearly unusable. It freezes, has adds and popups that make it useless. It remained such a popular app in the LS likely bc of the anonymity. It never really attached to your contacts like telegram, snap, what’s app, FB or others.
When we signed up for telegram and got a text right away from a neighbor wondering if we had been hacked due to the sexy profile pic and description.
We’ve seen several friends have a second FB profile be offered to our normal accounts as “people you may know” - not sure if email, phone numbers or facial recognition, but that’s pretty scary too.
What’s the next best option? And how do we make it the new standard, so everyone isn’t using something different. That gets exhausting trying to keep up with too… lol.

We just keep using kik.
We've always like MeWe. It has a lot of great features that kik doesn't have. It's sort of a cross between kik and Facebook. But unfortunately, it's not widely used like kik.
We are still using KIK, the pop up ads here and there suck, but it's been decent
Kik for us. Too many social media accounts make it difficult to manage.

I use Kik, but only because it seems to be the go to that others use. I think it has a horrible UI and hardly ever works.
Agreed. It is horrible, but it’s what we have at this point.

However, like PARTYINLV, we much prefer MeWe because it has so much more to offer than Kik ever could or ever has. It is by far the best platform we have seen for our Lifestyle activities, especially for our local Lifestyle group.

We use kik as well. It is obnoxious of late - but still the best way to chat about private things and to send images outside of prying eyes. The freeze issue has been especially obnoxious . . . but we keep hoping for a fix. In the meantime . . . its still our texting tool of choice.
Kik is great but mine crashed and I had to reload it. All my conversations were gone and I can’t remember by the user name who I was talking to so that’s a little awkward

It seems to work fine with iPhones. But with androids K I K seems to have alot of issues.
When k i k was about to go down we tried MeWe and Wikr, and we'll specifically avoid anything that's owned by facebook or requires a phone number so we didn't use Telegram. MeWe made sense for big groups, the social aspect was kinda cool, but I liked Wickr the most since it was closest to k i k. Unfortunately nobody really ever used it, and chat apps are only as good as the people who use it. Plus it's now owned by Amazon, so I'd rather avoid it. I really wish kik would have just died so it forced the community to leave the app and eventually pick a replacement.
Seems like the only real alternative at this point will be Telegram. We'll have to use google voice to create a new phone number, since we won't use our personal numbers.

Yeah kik on Apple seems to be better
kik is fine for us. It freezes up for us but works. After we get to know people or have a date set up we exchange numbers.

The only way this would’ve happened is if you allowed access to contacts when you first set it up. You can wipe those contacts though. Kiik does the same thing when you initially set it up. Known many people that have the same issue there. They also parse your messages to gather user data to improve the ads so there’s that too. At least Tele uses end to end encryption to protect your data.

Kiiik is good for initial contact, no personal data is exchanged that way. It is however centralized and has no end to end encryption. (Read: your messages/pictures could be intercepted/stolen and possibly used against you)

Once we exchange real world contact info with others we prefer to move to one of the following:
iMessage: if we are all iPhone users (Apple claims end to end encryption but is not verifiable)
Signal: Our personal favorite, end to end encryption, publicly verifiable, notification if a device is compromised/changed, disappearing messages. But it does use your phone number as it’s initial authentication.

Kiiik has been great for us, does seem like its had more ads lately. As mentioned previously though it is about who's using the app. Seems all the singles we meet are using Snap, so working on getting used to that. K.i.k works best I think ..it doesn't ask for personal info aside for the adds it's not terrible.

We use kik due to the anonymity and widespread use, but we don't like the bugs and glitches. We also have MeWe but don't use it much as a messaging app because so few people have it, so we mainly use it as an adult blog.

We still use it.. till something better comes along. We also created a separate pseudo/lifestyle facebook profile.
We use kik until we are reasonably sure they aren't murder's and then we switch to text messaging.
Kik is Trash but its the best option of the trash apps we have found. most annoying it only keeps like 100 messages before they get deleted.

We would totally join this.
We use Kik all the time, mostly issue free. Also use MeWe, which has a little learning curve but is good for chatting. You could always get a cheap burner phone and use it without attaching your other accounts to it.
