We usually try to respond as well, even if not interested (unless it's one of the "someone likes you" messages....). I agree, it's just plain consideration.

But...to be fair, if you are saying "please let us know if interested" people may hear "we shouldn't message back if we aren't interested" or "they only want to hear from us if we're interested". I don't know, maybe you'd get more "no thanks" messages back with just a "hope to talk to you soon" ending.

IM is a funny creature. I usually add someone and then they are never online, and when the finally are and they send a message I just don't remember where they came from. My favorites are "Have we talked already?" Seriously?! Anyway...no advice there...just relaying some of my experience.

Talk to ya later!

You'll see that the brief answer i'm giving will prove my point....
We don't reply with not interested, simply because we are limited on the amount of time we have on the site. No hard feelings, especially when we don't get responses to the emails we send out. It's a matter of time for us, wishing we had more to chat and meet everyone, for us it's a limited (unfortuantely) hobby and not a lifestyle (yet). ;-p SS
Being polite never hurts. I appreciate a nice rejection or a nice reception. Receptions are always welcomed but at least you owe whoever expressed interest in you the courtesy of some kind of reply. I always do and I am always polite when I reply or send emails to people of any sites. Why be crude, impolite or crass?? Jim
