Anyone who degrades to that level of "conversation" is just someone who gets off on being rude. It happens all the time in on-line forums: a core of people get friendly and start to have a great time. Then some brainless types can't form a sentence, so can't "join the group" by actually participating - so they then get their jollies by saying hurtful, mean, nasty - and *UNTRUE* things - and slowly tear the "community" apart.
I've seen it happen again and again.
The *only* way to deal with someone who is being rude - is to just "switch them off". Ignore them and forget all about them. If you met that person on the street, you'd see how *un*important their opinion is to you, but because you are a *nice* person, it's tough to just let it go. Been there. Done that.
And, by the way, would *love* to party with you two. So would the jerk who insulted you.
