Swingers Forum - Photo Stealing

Previous Post Next Post
We have just been informed by one our members that there is a rumor spreading around. The rumor states that Swingular is being sought after for allowing members to RIGHT CLICK on other members photos and saving them. This rumor is untrue as we know it.

Just for your information, we have eliminated disabling the right click feature because it became more of an inconvenience for our members than it did preventing theft of members photos. The right click disable feature is implemented using JAVASCRIPT. This only works on the latest Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator browsers. Anyone can disable JavaScript simply by unchecking an option in their browser. They could also press the SHIFT key while right clicking and the right click menu will still appear. Even if they didn't disable the right click feature, they could press the print screen button and save it that way.

There is no REAL way to prevent anyone from stealing your photos on ANY website. The only theft prevention is to NOT post photos. In order for your computer to display a photo from a website, it must download that photo locally to your computer. A picture thief could get your photo this way also.

We want our members to know that your privacy is our number one priority and that we have measures in place to help uphold our policies. You must remember that we can only do so much, the rest is up to you.

If you are afraid that your photos are going to be stolen, place them in your private photo album or don't post them at all.

We hope we have been able to educate you about this matter and your comments and opinions are very much welcome.

Thank your for your time,

Robert

As for the liability of Swingular in regards to image stealing, each member voluntarily uploads their images to the website. Therefore giving us permission to display their iamges as intended, and releasing us from any responsibility from the unauthorized downloading of images.
Hi.
Funny, people placing there pictures on the internet should know that there is a way to copy them. The java script prevents some of them to do it, they are not so familiar with the internet and pc. Here in the Netherlands you don't need to be a member to see and place profiles on the internet, so it is even simpler to copy them. But they use the Java script sometimes to prevent rightclicking.
Anyway, our compliments for all the work you put in this website. We hope there will be more international couples add their profile in the future.
And don't worry about people scaring you. They have a problem, not you.
Kisses from the Netherlands

It was obtained by a right click and selecting the propteries. I used using IE 6 - haven't tested it in NS 6 or below. And besides, you don have any javascript disableing script in your page code.

:)

Let me reword what I was trying to say there. On the old site, we enabled javascript that disabled the right click to open a menu with options. On this new site, we disabled that javascript so now members can right click.... sorry for the confusion.

We were doing some research today on the internet to see if anyone has come out with a way to protect and prevent anyone from stealing images. We found a few companies that offer image protection. The software sends the pictures to the website via JAVA applets. The upside to this is protection of images, the downside is that everyone using the site MUST have the latest JAVA software installed and the images will take a little longer to load. This will cause the site to seem like it has slowed down.

We would like to hear from all the members what they think about this option and if it's worth implementing.

Sound away....
Keep it the way it is. If you don't want to be landing between the files of another pc, hide your face. Speed is a big item in websites. What about the people using a cellphone to connect or old 14k4 modems.
Just prevent the rightclick option by the javascript. It will encourage at least a few.

Why would you opt for a JAVA solution when Javascript does the trick - 95% of the time. YES, the right click can be avoided, but I"m not telling how!!! (Let's not even mention the fact that NO ONE can prevent someone from taking a screen capture and then editing that down to a file. If you don't know what I mean.. attached is a screen capture picture.)

I've only found one site [can't remember right now] that has their right clicked disabled. I don't see what the hassel is for members. If you're thinking of that popup message when you right click as the annoying part - don't enable that part of the script - just disable the right click function.

Javascript is enabled in ALL browsers by default and there's no software to install. A JAVA applet would have to load, increasing downoad time and reducing the GREAT user experience you've created.

AS for the 14.4 modems.. I doubt anyone is still using them, I haven't seen one in 10+ years. 56K is the most popular - and with DSL/Broadband and satelite being so prevalent - I doub't those are a concern. And who would waste air time to view any web page.

But that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it! :z
I say if you are worried about your photos being stolen DONT POST THEM! Or put them in your Private Album. There are always ways around Java Scripts. And if someone wants your photo that bad they are going to get it one way or another!
Admin keep up the GREAT job of this site!

Ditto... if you don't post..people can't steal. (Did I forget to mention that??)
Java no Java, it stops no one but the lazy from coping. There is no way to stop the print screen ability which you then paste in paint brush (BMP) then use most any application and convert it back to Jpg.

It's the whole reason we don't post sexual pics anywhere. If someone wants to steal a copy of our g-rate face pic oh well. I can't imagine anyone paying them for it.
Well, after much debate, we did some research and found that there is some javascript code that prevent right clicking on images only. This will prevent the casual picture thief from grabbing images but allow the rest of the members to use the functionality of the right click menu throughout the rest of the site. A win-win situation for both!
There is no way to stop picture thiefs to stop getting the pictures. I have a program that copys the pictures to either JPG or BMP which ever. But the only reason i use that program is to brighten pictures from people that have them too dark but then delete them when see it. so you best bet is put the picture in your private album or don't put on up at all.

We post pictures so others are able to have an idea of what we look like. It is a way of advertising ourselves. If someone uses those pictures for other sites, its the chance we take.
I would be flattered if mine were used.
