Who all is going and are you concerned about KSL being there?
Going to meet some friends and very concerned
Admin sent out an email to everyone that is registered on the Spice Party site.
The Spice Party Team sent out a letter to all those that are on their email list.

We personally aren't concerned, they have agreed to not show film anyone or blur out the faces. We also agree with Robert in the letter how it will benefit all of us to be able to add our own input to their report.

Just our opinion...
We are going but not too concerned because we are usually in a corner anyway!
When we first heard that the news was going to be there, we were extremely concerned. After one of our friends forwarded the email to us, we were more open to the idea. We certainly have people in our lives that we don't want to know about our marital affairs...but, we certainly don't want people to think that we, and all of our more "open" friends, are sub-par citizens. :) And hey, if having the news there adds a little bit more of an adrenaline rush, so be it! And if it doesn't....I'm sure someone there can bring it out of you. :) See you all there!
We've deleted all our public pics from our profile on this and other sites. It is the only safe thing to do.

After working in the advertising and public relations field for many years I can unequivocally tell you that KSL has already determined the story they are going to write, and they are only going to the party to find supporting evidence of it. It doesn't matter what you say, they will edit out what doesn't fit the outline for the story that was agreed upon in a programing meeting and keep the stuff that does. Ever heard someone say "that's not what I said, they took my comment out of context!"

What story is this?

Sex and Wife Swapping in Your Neighborhood!

Wife Swapping... What About the Children!

Swingers... They Could Be Your Neighbor

And I could go on and on with possible headlines.

Never have I seen any positive spin put on the Lifestyle by the media. Sex and scandal makes ratings with produces ad dollars. And this fulfills both criteria in one story. Do a Google News search on swingers and see how many positive stories you come up with. I guarantee it will be 99% negative.

KSL isn't going to tell a story of how swinging can bring a couple closer and strengthen an already good relationship. They aren't going to show how 79% of swingers report their marriage as "very happy" as opposed to 64% of the general societal survey (GSS), or that only 1.7% of swingers report their marriage/relationship to have become "less happy" after starting to swing. Or that 57% of swingers list marriage as "very important" in their life as compared to 51% of the GSS. They are not going to show that swingers are slightly more likely to be part of a religious organization the the GSS (72% compared to 61%).

These are not facts that will support the sensationalist story they want to produce. They want to show wild sex orgies and broken marriages.

It doesn't matter if they agree not to show faces or not (they won't due to legal ramifications). Like xxxtasy and others have mentioned it will cause a huge spike in traffic to this and other swinger related websites by every "concerned" (read: nosey) Utahn scouring the sites for a neighbor like they're searching a sex offenders database. I guarantee there will be a spike in free members for a month or so after the segment airs. The women will want something to gossip about at relief society and the men will want to know who to hit on in their neighborhood in the chance they'll get lucky because you know... their wife isn't a freak like that and since you're a swinger you'll do anyone, anytime right? Just like in the porn movies?

And the club? Club 90 is only a "swingers club" once or twice a month. People who go there during the other 29 days in the month will recognize the decor and will be "scouting" from now on. You'll have every guy looking to get lucky going to Club 90 in the off-chance he'll meet a swinger.

I'd recommend being on your best behavior if you do attend the party. They think they are going to see flesh and dirty dancing. They need to see that these parties are not that, but just like going to any club on any given night; the difference being nobody's getting in a fight because someone looked at someone else's significant other.:p
For those of you that have a lot to lose....be careful
....for those of you mistaking-
Hello I will be going. If we have enough people there who will give a proper view to the press we may get a better slant in the news. It is important how we dress and how we act if they are confronted with a room full of adults enjoying the friendship of each other, not groping, slobbering over each other or dirty dancing, they will have a harder time slanting the news. If all of us stay away and only a few go who don't care how things are represented then the news will for sure make a sleazy broadcast. If we think before we speak and treat ourselves with dignity, I think the news may be in for a surprise.
I have watched a few KSL "editorials" mostly in shock. I can't imagine that station putting a good spin on this. KSL is the most conservative station other than the BYU station in UT.
We were very excited to attend untill reading about the KSL thing. It woudn't be so bad if we felt we could trust KSL to be what they say but keep this in mind, KSL has to pander to it's audeince and they perceive that audience to be something other than us. We did not enter this lifestyle to be in a zoo. We have taken down our public pics. It is not that we can't hang loose and be exhibitionists at times, but those times are in a different setting with people just like us not the tight ass, hollier than thou KSL reporter who gets paid ultimately by the Mormon Church. This is the same channel that refuses to air episodes of Saturday Night Live but we are to trust them on this? I travel all over the world and am exposed to all kinds of cultures and I always think that Utah is coming around and then comes this. KSL needs to stay out of peoples bedrooms. We did go about meeting people on this website so that everyone else in the state can know about us. If they are interested, they can pay the cost of admision and become a participant. But they shouldn't be allowed to see us between sports and the Subway comercial.
We have been in the lifestyle for over 10 years together and we usually do not worry about these kind of things, because they are usually in other cities and states.
But if you all remember the murder of that young girl in San Diego, Ca and they focused on the parents being swingers and not the dejected nieghbor who killed that poor little girl.

Here is a good one for those who want to know what can happen to a club.

here is another that i found interesting.

we are going to make our pic's privatefrom now on(face pic's), not to hide from our family and friends, who already know about our lifestyle, but the people who we work with that will not be as understanding.

What I do is sells and if anyone found out in my field that we are swingers, I could have a drop off of my sales quick enough to put me out of business.
I already have a hard time selling to certain companies because i am not Morman, now just add to that i am a swinger, i will never sell them anything ever and most of them would let it be known throughout my industry.

We hope to meet many more people on this site, but this will make it a lot harder to do so, the screening process just got a little more complicated.

Enjoy the party, but i do not think that is where the problem is in this story.
When is this suppost to be taped and broadcast? We have also pulled our photos to be safe.
We were going to the party and luv to get out and meet friends and make new ones, however with KSL being there... we wont be! We cant see anyway possible KSL is going to put a story out, that in ANY way is a good thing, please people, this is KSL... its going to be more like... do you really know what is going on in your own back yard? Or, how well do you know the type of parents your kids friends have? For us, this "lifestyle" is something we do for fun, not something we need to do.. it definetly is not something that is worth risking everything we have ie: our Family's , careers, friends etc. it isn't a matter of what we think of this type of behavior, we obviously have an open mind to it, its a matter of what your neighbors, school teachers, co workers, etc. will think of it.. and were pretty sure that they wont have the same opinion that we all have of the lifestyle. so with that being said we are not going to the party and have temporarily pulled our pics, hopefully this will all fade away pretty quik.. just our opinion.
WOW!! has this got interesting or what!! yeah yeah, we took our pic down (hopefully temporary only)...but we still have our private pics and we WILL be very careful of who we "make our friends". I will say this: anyone thinking that this is going to be a poisitive for this here "lifestyle" is out of their freaking mind!!!! not a chance that is going to happin. My dove & I have tickets to the party yes...however we are going to still probably attend...maybe hangout downstairs in the "NORMAL" bar area (LOL) until all the excitement is gone...but i believe we will still go...unless of course we get invited somewhere else ;) What really sucks is .....we have met some GREAT people here and we believe that all of that is about to change....for hell sakes let the media get their info somewhere else, cause god knows that whatever they get from this party is NOT going to change how the general public views what we are all doing here on this site!!!!!!

hugs & kisses to all of you,

J-n-C
We changed our face pic's to private not only on this site but everyone we are on.
We believe not only this site will be search for but others like swinglifestyle, lifestylelounge, swappernet, aff, and many more.
so for those you that are on multiple sites I would think about them also.

Just my opinion.....................
Unfortunately, this whole incident is a double edged sword with no one the winner. News media thrives on sensationalism and dirty laundry. Its not the boy scout who got his eagle award, or the person who did the good dead that makes the headlines.. its the dirt, the death, the corruption that sells. What could be more controversial in Utah than immorality as viewed by the public ? Everyone loves to throw stones, so lets stop for a moment and think about a few things...

Every opinion we have read so far is valid... everyone is intitled to their own pesonal feelings.

First.. what brought all of us here and how did we find lifestyle websights? Most of us just googled.. its that easy. KSL or any other media will just bring it to everyones mind for awhile.. it will quickly pass if no one shows a great deal of interest pro or con. Once it runs its course.. people will forget and find something else

Second.. People like Rob who provide sights like this didnt do it as a community service... its a livelyhood. I am sure there are benefits to it, but this is a tool that is provided for us to find other people with similar interests. We pay someone to provide it.. they do it to make money.
As long as there is a degree of respect shown by the provider for the clients, you really can't get too angry. Similar things took place a year or two ago with Paul and his wife, the owners of swappernet. They appeared on t.v. for almost the same exact reasons that are taking place here... how many of you remember that and have heard anything about it since?
Lets not condemn Rob for providing us with a service and trying to expand it... once we find ourselves exploited in an improper manner that is offensive to us.. then we will pull out...

Third.. Lets not throw stones at any particular group, (religious wise) . We never know who we are going to offend, and I have not yet found any religous group who would condone swinging. Those people living in the South Eastern part of the country, (the bible belt) fight the same problems we do here in Utah and its not all the same organization that is speaking out against lifestyles.

Finally, we have pulled our pictures from the public view for our own security. Its not so much us personally that we are protecting, its our children and our families. We do not want our families to face the redicule and rejection that would ultimately be directed at them the moment their friends parents begin to gossip about us. We would definitely find ourselves unemployed and most likely have to move if the word about our personal lives was made public. We know from past experiences, there are people who enjoy causing this type of trouble and would use any negative means to harm us and our business... We have chosen for the time to withdraw into the darkness a bit deeper and wait until all the excitement passes.. and it will.

If this type of news doesnt get alot of reaction, it will go away quickly. We feel that placed into the position Rob is in, trying to present a positive non confrontational approach is the best way to go about it. Trying to block the media only excites them more to find out what deep dark activities are taking place. Once people see that its not much more that couples socializing with some occassionaly breaches from societies moral norms.. they will get bored and try to find something more titilating than what this has to offer.

Lets all stick together, remain friends, not cause anymore commotion to draw attention to ourselves (by trying to debate the media) and work on keeping our glass houses clean instead of throwing stones..

MUAH to you all... we have yet to find anyone here we dont enjoy.

Not necessarily. I
We have been interested for years to get involved in the lifestyle. Our biggest concern was the publicity and discretion. This was to be our first party and we were excited but still hesitant. Call it cold feet, or just butterflies. Now that there will be media there, whether cameras, reporters, whatever, we will NOT be there and have concerns about even being on this site any further. We have met a few nice couples here, and will probably continue with that privately.

For everyone that has met us, thanks, for those have not, sorry.
There are A LOT of people living in nontraditional relationships. I think it is good when we can stand up and let people see that there are lots of responsible people who choose not to follow the path defined so clearly by our narrow minded culture. We are in many ways like everyone else. We go to work, make house payments, raise our kids, and make our way through life. I used to feel that our choice to have the type of relationship we do was emotionally risky, I don't anymore. My relationship is stronger because of the nontraditional path we have chosen. I know that many people cannot come forward because of work discimination (and it is discrimination), but our society needs wake up, look at the divorce rate, and realize that the traditional way is failing many families in many ways.

I wonder if KSL will actually present the information in a fair way - or if they will choose the Dr. Phil way and just point fingers at the problems that can arise from this lifestyle. Alternative relationships are getting more and more press lately. I think the more press the better. It is time to come out of the closet, take our place and push for more understanding of who we are and why we choose what we do.
Everyone has posted some great comments and concerns and thank you. Let me remind everyone that the decision to allow KSL to come to the party HAS NOT BEEN MADE and we can still say NO. That is why I sent the newsletter out to hear your feedback. The majority of you seem like you will have an issue with them being there and your well being is more important than a news story. So please don't judge us just yet as that's not fair. We were respectful enough to get your feedback first.

For those of you who say this is a publicity stunt, you couldn't be more wrong. Swingular does extremely well on it's own. In fact, this could actually hurt Swingular financially more than it would do good. As you can see, members are already uncomfortable with what is happening and have started to remove profiles and pics. Again, my biggest concern running this site is YOUR privacy and your opinions do matter.

This story will not air until the end of May sometime so you won't have to worry about anything just yet. I will keep in touch with KSL to find out the exact date and send out an update to everyone so you can be warned. We will also pull all ads about Swingular off of the search engines during that time to make it harder for anyone to find Swingular.

Anyhow, KSL WILL NOT BE AT THE SPICE PARTY.

If any of you have any questions, please let me know and I'll try to answer. Thanks for all of your support.

Rob
Bad decisions, pics are gone
one thing and i will shut up!! the way a business succeeds is by listining to its clientele...Rob and others who are responcible for this site.....job well done!!!! by keeping us informed your business will succeed....communication is key!

J-n-C
We had something similar happen as members of another swinger's site. It was easily solved by "moving" to Antarctica for a little while.....actually we moved to Iceland first and then to Ant. Many other members also "moved" until they were fairly certain the expected scrutiny had died down....it was kind of fun! Any way we can all temporarily change our profile locations?
Evil
That was too easy! We now reside in the Cook Islands! Anyone want to have a "moving" party with us on the beach??? ;-)
Evil
We have to agree!! Having the news at the Spice Party is not a good idea. As newbies we are extremely concerned about going to the party. We were planning on attending the party, but now we are thinking it over. For all you individuals out there that are newbies, please let us know your thoughts and opinions.
Thanks T&J
I almost never post but.......

I know that my wife and I would never attend any event like this if there was going to be a camera crew, newspaper, or the like there. For us it is extremely important that our names/faces dont get out in the public. Hell, I could quickly lose my job if that happened. I think it is a terrible idea to have a news crew come in and pry into what should be a private setting and then run off and make us all look like terrible people cause of our choices. Gonna stop now before I really go off on a rant here. Later all
I won't be coming now that I have found out that KSL is coming.
For anyone that doesn't already know. Rob has sent out an email saying that KSL WILL NOT BE AT THIS PARTY.
Thanks HelloKitty... for those of you who did not know, we never gave KSL permission to come to the party. They inquired and we felt we should get feedback from the Spice Party guests before making any decisions. After hearing the feedback, we declined to allow them to film at the event.
hi we have a show on HBO out here its called " big love" a married man with 3 wives what we found interesting is that thay live in ....UT
so UT is on the (box) swinging in your state is well out in the open ....
note any of you pervs moving out here or do we have to move to UT lol
What is the deal with paying $15-$20 more for these parties, when the regular patron at the club is only paying $5... We get worse bar service, no security check for single guys, and we have to mix with the regular people, to get a drink faster.... And why does it cost more the day of the party? We don't care about the money, just curious on what does paying more money get us?.. It seems to me, we can pay the $5 dollar covercharge, and just walk upstairs to the $20 dollar party anyways....Are we getting scammed?
RECON:

The cost of the party is $15 per couple, that's $2.50 more than what you pay per person at a regular club. Why are you paying $2.50 more? Because the atmosphere was specifically arranged for our group and includes decorations, prizes, organization, a DJ and more. This is not the clubs party, it is ours, therefore, we are responsible for all of the costs to run the party. Why do we charge more the day of? To give everyone an incentive to purchase their tickets in advance so we know how many people to expect at the event and plan for it. Most of the things we do for the party have to be planned and purchased in advance and the costs to do so just on an estimate can be expensive. For instance, we give away door gifts at most of the parties. These gifts range in price from $10 to $40. If we know we are expecting 100 couples, it will cost us less upfront since we're not purchasing too many gifts.

As far as security and single men. We've never had an issue at any organized Spice Party where we charge a fee. Our security is tight and we use wrist bands to differentiate those who should and shouldn't be at the party. The Vortex parties may be a different story as we don't have total control of those parties but as we said in the past, those are not actual Spice Parties and that is why we don't charge for those Member Appreciation type of events. Please don't get the two mixed up.
You know....I was close to overreacting as well when I heard about the News being at the party. I had to read the email a few times to make sure I wasn't missing any details and seeing things through a haze of anger or exhibitionistic glee. I was extremely concerned. We have never been to anything related to this lifestyle....ever. Of course, discretion..blah blah blah...we all feel the same way about that.

I DID NOT GET ANGRY BECAUSE ROB WAS ASKING US ABOUT OUR COMFORT LEVEL AS HIS CLIENTELE.

In no way did he say he had agreed and they were going to undoubtedly be there.

Thank you, Administration, for asking for our opinions on a VERY important matter. I thought you handled it the best way you thought you could, and thank you for having the balls to handle it the way you thought was proper.

We will be there and will be buying Rob a drink!
How the administration handled this has impressed me. They asked us our input, and listened to it. I believe they were only trying to shed a good light on us in the first place, but even given that, with my career, I could never risk having my face plastered on that kind of news story. And in my few dealings with the press, it has not been an uncommon occurance for them to screw you over if they felt that they could make a more scandalous story which would draw higher ratings by doing so. Most of the press is not that way, but enough is that we would never appear at a Spice party if a hint of media was to be there. Thanks admin for listening to us.

So how did they find out about the party and get in touch with you in the first place? To find you it would seem to me that some reporter or research people are doing allot of research.

It seems too that allot of people are putting more weight on the fact that the media would be at the party rather then the fallout in the aftermath of of this. As others have said, KSL will not show faces or names, they can't under federal broadcasting laws. But I'm sure they will show screenshots of a computer with various swingers websites on it. Guaranteed there will be many Utahn's signing-up for free memberships to browse these sites for friends, neighbors, and members of their Ward. This is the real issue. Not the press itself on that night, but the publicity it will bring to the lifestyle.
The Spice Parties are advertised on the web and in the City Weekly. We've met a few different couples at the parties that have no affiliation with Swingular - they simply Googled "Partys in Utah" or had seen an ad in the paper.

Either way, people know about these parties. If someone wanted to sneak in and do an "expose" it wouldnt be hard.

Rob, we support you! Thank you for everything you do to make these parties a complete blast!

Unfortunatly, we wont be able to be there for this one, which is the first one we've missed for a while now. We really wish we could be there - we almost wish the camera crew would be there, if nothing more then to see the looks on their faces...lol

We hope you all have a killer time, and think of us when you're partying!

A&K
Not attending for another reason, but are concerned about the whole idea of the need to "educate the public" - the general public doesn't need to know! This is a lifestyle by choice - for consenting adults. Privacy and decretion is the key to its survival! We are also fully aware that the KSL thing is a "no go" - just wanted to get our "two cents" in as well!

I'm not sure why there is a feeling that we need to educate anyone outside of the lifestyle about what it really is. Regardless of how the Administrator thinks the media will handle this, he is wrong about how the community will handle it. As we have discovered, the majority of Uthans ARE NOT openminded and accepting, in fact, the majority of this Country is not. As a matter of fact, some of the people who claim to be in the lifestyle are in it for all the wrong reasons - we've all experienced that DRAMA! Getting the media involved will only increase the existence of people who are only in it to "see what the hype is really about" - who wants or needs that? We already get our share of people who only wish they talk their partner into trying it out!

Someone made a comment about "Coming out of the Closet" - We live a normal life because we don't share what or who we do in bed (on the floor, in hot tubs . . . lol). Don't be naive . . . I know many Gay and Lesbian couples whose lives are not better because they "came out", but they are happier because they no longer have to hide - We don't feel like we are "hiding" anything other than the type of sex we like - Not sure about you, but my casual/work friends don't necessarily come to me to tell me that they shave their pussies or suck cock - it just doesn't come up!

Our choice to be in this lifestyle is not something we EVER discuss with those outside of the lifestyle because they don't get it and never will no matter how much the media (or any one of us for that matter) tries to provide "the CORRECT information and educate them about the reality of the people who get involved in it".

Each of us really has no idea why any other individual or couple is in this lifestyle, those that want to "go public" only think they do. We would appreciate it if those that coordinate the "Spice Party" let go of the notion that it is their responsibility to educate Utah about us. Advertising (City Weekly, KSL, etc.) outside of lifestyle sites really only means one thing - profit for those advertising = how many more than 200 (as the last email notice indicated) need to be drawn in! Exposure = more people paying the $15.00 to ??? to get in. That does not benefit the individuals in the lifestyle in any way other than having to deal with more people who don't know what the hell they are doing - they're easy to pick out - their jaws are hanging wide open or they are too drunk to make any kind of coherent statement. Remember "discretion is the key" - Let them wonder, it makes for better wet dreams.

Swingsets!
Hi, well I am 46, and sorry, I don't have to answer to my parents, or to my children, for they are up and growen, and gone, I own my store, so I work for myself , so I don't have to answer to a boss, my family and friends love me for who I am, not for what I do , so I don't have to answer to them, I am lucky.... but trust me this is utah and the poeple will judge me for I own a lingerie store and they do judge, so the best advice I can give is. when they judge you , It will not be what you have done but how you handle yourself when you are being judge... is what they remember in the long run so you can get hurt going, for If one tv station is on this then 2,4,and 13 will be on it and every paper, so when not if you go hold your heads up high, dress nice act nice, and let them know we are adults and p.s. have fun ... life is to short to waste time on if we are going to be judged, for we live in utah, and we will allways be judged by those's who do not understand, luv all walt ps my pic stays
Just our 2 cents, but we will definitely be paying attention to who was the "verified" seals..
I am betting that KSL will be there at least in the main part of the club. I heard about a similar situation back east a fw years ago and the news team was there with hidden cameras. This is probably a pretty big story here in the land of Zion.
Perhaps some consideration should be made to close free memberships until this all blows over. Few in lookie-lu's in Utah are going to pay to see what they can find on the neighbors.

If they have no access they cannot bother us. However, news organizations may already be here.
I agree with UTCPL. Of all the news outlets in Utah I am most skeptical of KSL. Even if they are not inside the party it is likely they will report on it in some fashion. Once the notion of organised swinging breaks out into the open you can bet that there will be little old ladies sitting in lawn chairs with binoculars and notepads writing down license plate numbers. If this sounds a bit incredulous may I remind you of the "blue ribbon" campaign in St. George a few years back where the same tactics were used to force the closure of an adult bookstore in Mesquite NV. Perhaps I am being a bit paranoid, maybe I have some psychosis from too many years behind the Zion Curtain. Just figured I'd rant a bit.

All the best to you guys! Hope you have a blast!
OSTAR21 - totally agree with you, make the bastards signup and pay $20 to find us freaks! KSL will (I'm sure they already did for their story), however I don't think my neighbors will, unless maybe they want to join us.

Rob - maybe you can recoup some lost revenue for a few weeks.
I just checked my mail to find out that KSL wont be there.....to me it doesnt really matter ,but to those that it does , find some comfort there.I too do not nessasarily want everyone knowing my business, but , I am willing to admit my lifestyle choice when confronted about it.
On the party, I am looking forward to meeting more of the club members....feel free to say hi if you walk by, im in a blk/orng harley polo...Im Chuck and my gal is Jen, looking forward to meeting you too:)
Just wanted everyone to know that we had a great time at the party and were sorry to miss a lot of our new friends, but hopefully we'll see you all next time. Thanks Rob for putting on a great time and poviding us an easygoing opportunity to meet more sexy people like us.

Love ya all,

B & J
