Looking at the surface pro 3 vs the Ipad. Does anybody have the surface pro for any real world feedback?
We have the surface tablet and have loved it so far. We don't use our for much more then just web surfing and streaming movies but it's a great tablet
Just remember apple limits it use with paying for extras. No USB no expandable memory, when the battery goes bad you can't replace it and most of the good apps you would want cost money

A surface pro 3 is a full fledged windows PC in a tablet configuration, it will run full windows programs.
An iPad is just that...an iPad, it is closer to an Android tablet running only cut down OS

Apple makes a great product. They now have the capability to run Pages, Numbers etc. (apple version of the office sweet) However, as previously stated the Surface Pro has full Windows 8 on it and is basically a laptop. In fact, it has better specs than my laptop...
The features we like about apple products is if I make a spread sheet on my Mac when I get to my iPad its there same thing with pictures we take on our iPhones they are on my Mac when I get home. No need for USB ports or flash drives there is this thing called the cloud stores everything we need. If you need a keyboard they have accessories like the airbridge. Updates are great and easy done in the background. For us we would pay extra for the quality and ease of apple products before ever going back to a windows platform. Just our 2 cents worth.

Tell me more about this "cloud". Sounds like the perfect place to store all of our dirty pictures and videos as well as our correspondence with other naughty swingers that we never ever want the vanilla world to discover. Maybe I should put all my passwords, SS numbers and bank account info there as well.

Apple stuff is, usually, technically more advanced that windows stuff. But they sacrifice a lot of consumer convenience, and charge way too much. You can't change any components in an Apple computer, not even in the desktops. You can't even change the battery in a laptop. And not so long ago they eliminated CD/DVD drives in the laptops. A year ago I was forced to buy an Apple in order to run some sound processing software that only runs on Apples (usually it's the other way around, another advantage Windows systems have). A laptop cost me over $2K, it wasn't even their best one, and I had to shell out for a USB CD/DVD drive.
If you want a Windows computer that's just as technically advanced as an Apple, desktop, laptop, whatever, and are willing to spend some bucks, go see PC Laptops and they'll build you exactly what you want, giving you options on every component. I bought a laptop over 2 years ago from them and it did cost $3K, but it's still not even approaching being obsolete compared to what's on the market today. And they have an amazing warranty. ~ Terry

No put what you want in it I don't care lol. We have a Wd personal cloud sits on my desk. If your stupid enough to put your dirty pics SS numbers passwords in the windows or apple or other cloud storages that are out there be my guess
So you have a an external hard drive? Not really a cloud then. Sorry, brah.
Sorry again it can be accessed any place on any of our computers iPads phones so yes it is a cloud drive. Sorry brah
Man you come in here give a opinion and get nothing but shit for it. These forums are getting to be nothing but a place for no brainers to bitch at others
What In2love said. I don't trust the cloud, whether it's Apple's, Google's, or whoever's. If it's om someone else's server, and not in my own computer, it can be hacked. And even if you persnoally aren't rich or famous or something else that would make you a target for really sophisticated hackers, your stuff can be scooped up by those people when they get into them looking for info from the kinds of people who they DO target.
Someone might get past my security, but they'd have to do it when I was actually online (the various clouds are ALWAYS online). And since I'm not a person of interest to the public the chances that anyone sophisticated enough to get past my security (which is a whole lot better than McAfee or Norton) would invest the effort to find out when I was actually online is pretty darned slim. If I had stuff in a cloud it'd be out there 24/7 and available to some sophisticated hacker who was digging in whichever cloud I used for nude selfies of movie stars.
These clouds aren't something magical. They're just hardware, servers where you can store your stuff and retrieve it whenever you want. And just like any other computer, like those in major corporations and even those in the Pentagon, they can be hacked into by someone who is sophisticate enough and has the right tools. And we all know that such people exist. ~ Terry

Servers are nothing but a external hard drive to be accessed by anyone else that has the means to. Whether it's a personal drive or cloud drive if someone wants to get your info they can and if your stupid enough to store passwords SS numbers or personal pictures thats your choice. Me I am not that stupid yet.
Really?!!? I thought they were like REAL clouds and stuff...guarded by Jesus and Obi Wan. I've been lied to and demand satisfaction! Yeah I'm talkin' to YOU Bill Gates.

I the Mr have not been a very big Apple fan untill just the other month. Work has given me a Ipad for some of my paperwork and it has been pretty good. Apple seems to integrate into work type application
a lot easier it seems so for that I dont mind it but have used other than Itunes for my music and now have Itunes and I dont care for it.
Its what you get used to and fits into your style that matters. If I had all Apple I would not get any thing but the Ipad but if nothing I had was an Apple product the need to change over would not be a big of a deal. Just my .02 worth

wasn't sayin' it wasn't. Was sayin' "the" clouds that Apple, Google, and some others provide ain't safe, at least in part "cause there are celebs on them, and that attracts serious hackers. Unless you're some kind of famous or really rich person, it isn't very likely anyone who could actually get into your own system will waste their time trying.~ Terry
The company I work for did extensive research on a whole stack of different tablets and laptops. We are getting the Surface. The bottom line is that it will not only do the work of a tablet like the iPad I use every day, but it will also run full desktop versions of all of the applications, like MS Office that I use every day. And the desktop versions of standard products like Concur, and Salesforce Re much more robust than the table/Moore apps. Right now I use both my iPad and a laptop. I can't do without either. I can't wait to have it all on one device.
The one drawback to the Surface that I see is that it's heavier than an iPad. But, when you compare using just the Surface to carrying two devices, it's abetter alternative.
It been a year since I got my iPad. My wife has just received a Surface. I really prefer the surface.

Since apple came out I have owned personally or in my buses over 50 apple computers. Only 2 have had issues one after about a year the board died and the second one last year the hard drive and DVD burner went out.
We now own 5 iPads and 5 iPhones and would never consider anything else. Well, that's not completly true we purchased two kindle fire's this summer for a trip to Europe to put books on and check email.
We just took the kindle's for a month trip to the carribean and the humidity and mostiure from lots of beach time seemed to have no effect on them.
Figured if it was damaged or lost we would loose no sleep over it. They were cheap and worked great. So cannot say anything bad about the less expensive Kendle's.

My company produces mobile apps and both android and apple have a lot of pros and cons. From a programming side, apple is much better and safer to use. Apps on Apple go thru an intense approval process but you can just load anything onto the google play store.
I also say if you are an 'app' person and like to use mobile apps than you are probably an apple fan.
Just my thoughts

Thanks for all the help, I actually won a Ipad air at work, So I bought a chromebook for chatting. Now the wife is happy with her Ipad and me with a chromebook. Our mac book is getting old but still runs the programs we need. Again, I really appreciate the feedback!!!!
SOJOCOUPLE is right about the apps. One good rule of thumb if you have an android device is to look at the apple store for an app and then see if its also available for android. You're much more likely to get a decent app. That said, Windows also has a certification program that's fairly rigorous. I had heard that they have a cert program specifically for the Surface tablet as well, though the source wasn't terribly credible and I couldn't find anything about it on-line. Does anyone know anything about it?

We became windows free about ten years ago, no problems at all with our various laptops, Iphones and other products. Have to agree that over time Apple has started to get a bit too predatory in their sales. I just bought a Lenovo and then immediately eradicated all traces of windows and loaded Linux on it. Runs awesome, no regrets and it's been fun learning new stuff.

What did you end up with, AMYNBOB? What do you think of it now that you own it?
