If you taught sex ed, what would you include that is NOT included? How would you promote a sex-positive attitude while encouraging safety? And how would you teach anatomy? (They currently use crappy diagrams which has me going to the internet to find actual pictures. LOL) And well, anything else you can think of! I have a teen taking health this year and I want to teach her a much more sex-positive attitude (and more informed!) which has been a challenge in that I have had to overcome a very sex-negative attitude myself.
I'd teach the anatomy very matter of factly. And as far as a sex-positive attitude I'd teach that sex is normal and not "dirty" or embarrassing in any way. Most of all I'd teach any and all effective methods of birth control and probably make a point of also mentioning all the methods that are basically old wives tales that definitely don't work. I thought my sex ed teacher in 9th grade was going to have a heart attack (or at least die of embarrassment) while telling us about sex.
Defiantly clarify myths and misnomers. Pre cum does have sperm and you CAN get pregnant from it. The pull out method not a reliable form of birth control. Having sex in a hot tub does not prevent pregnancy. Having sex on your period will not protect you from pregnancy. You can get pregnant from anal sex (doesn't happen often but the cum can drip from the ass into the vagina). These are just some of the things I remember I had to learn from high school. Give condoms because even if you offer, they may be too embarrassed to ask you. Teach how to put condom on and emphasize squeezing the air bubble out from the tip. There used to be a show called the Midwest teen sex show that was educational and funny. You may still be able to find old episodes.
Oh, one more thing. Last but CERTAINLY not least I would somehow convey that sex is not a "sin". Why a loving creator would give us this tremendous capacity for pleasure and then forbid us to enjoy it except under certain circumstances deemed acceptable by a bunch of old men who presume to be in some sort of contact with this invisible creator. Curious, right? Also curious how many of these old men usually decide that this creator has sanctioned them with the task of sanctifying the sex act by having lots of sex with their followers. Rant over.
