Testing for sexually transmitted infections is not cut and dry. I've had many patients over the years have me put together a panel for them and each time I've been a bit uncertain about it being accurate and sufficiently comprehensive. Now my sweetie and I are in the lifestyle we're about to get our own round of testing this coming week. The Mrs. is putting our selected panel today, but I'm wondering what others test and how often. Care to share?

Below is the list of our planned tests. The top two will be for both of us and he bottom ones only for the Mrs.

HIV: Architect HIV Ag/Ab Combo or Determine HIV 1/2 Ag/Ab Combo(includes HIV p24 antigen and HIV antibodies)
Hep B: Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) is the serologic hallmark of HBV infection. It can be detected by radioimmunoassays (RIA) or enzyme immunoassays (EIA)

Chlamydia: Vaginal Swab Nucleic Acid Amplification
Gonorrhea: Vaginal Swab Nucleic Acid Amplification
Trichomonas: Vaginal Swab Microscopy or AFFIRM VP III - The Affirm VP III Microbial Identification System (Becton Dickinson) test uses a DNA hybridization probe on a vaginal swab specimen
Pap Smear: liquid-based, thin layer preparation

Could we get that in English, please. :D

WOW definitely a complete and professionally detailed list. I'm sure many will find this helpful.
Translation- Both are getting tested for the HIV virus and Hepatitis B. (More than likely vaccinated against A and C)

The MRS is also getting tested for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Trichomoniasis (all common STDs). She is also getting her normal PAP Smear while she is there for HPV.

I am tested quarterly at work for HIV and Hep. We test together for a Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis A/B/C (even though we have vaccinations), Herpes 1 & 2, and Syphilis.
Pretty much all you can do with current tests. Of course no reliable tests still for male HPV. Most recent epidemiological studies show a majority in seropositive results for most adults for at least one strain of HPV as well as HSV (either type). Just know the REAL risks and be okay with them or get out of the game.

We're more worried about Ebola.
