I've been thinking about going to one for a little while now, and it looks like I might have time to attend one of them this month. To those who have been before: how are they, and what is the culture of these events like? Obviously they've been going on for a while, so it would seem like they work for a lot of people, but I still have some questions.
1) What is the general feeling towards SM there? Am I going to feel excluded if I show up on my own, or are people there pretty welcoming towards single guys who don't fit the negative stereotypes?
2) Oftentimes when I attend events, I like to bring a date. It means I don't have to deal with the SM issue, plus it helps make sure we both have a good time. Sometimes, I will bring a vanilla-swirl friend who is interested in seeing what the lifestyle is like. Would this be a good event to introduce someone with, or are they likely to get scared away by it?
3) It is in the nature of long-term, recurring events that they occasionally get... cliquish. How welcoming are these MeetnGreets towards new attendees? I know it's called a meet and greet, but is everyone going to know everyone else there or do people generally attend with the desire to meet new people?
Any other comments you want to add will certainly also be welcome. I like to know as much as possible about an event before attending, so every bit of info and advice helps.

We have been to quite a number of them. It has been our experience that the ones held at Club 48 are the easiest to meet new folks at. A few thoughts? Being a single male..yep..it is going to be more of a challenge for you. Our experience has been one of pretty much just couples type of things, but, that's just us. We've found most people to be pretty friendly, but yes..they can seem pretty cliquish, as well..That said tho..there are a number of couples and single girls who welcome the single guy.
Basically..if folks are patient..it would seem they can get out of it whatever they are willing to put in. If they sit shy, in a corner....prospects are pretty slim..if they are outgoing and social, without being overbearing....they will do just fine.
