Swingers Forum - Do they get to change the rules after I pay for the website? Re

line
Previous Post Next Post
I recently received an e-mail from the "Administrator" informing me that my profile has been disabled because my choice of profile pic was contrary to new rules put in place to control content. What I chose was a cartoon of a very sexy woman. I have been experimenting with different pics to gauge response and this one has been up about two weeks. I was told that this effects the overall attractiveness of the website. People want to see real people and in what they consider proper attractive poses. Tasteful nudity only, whatever that is, lol. Someone told me that this is just about making the website more attractive to new customers and the overall profitability of the product.
So, I have issues:
1. I did not receive notification of the rule changes.
2. Do I get a refund now that the product I purchased is not the product I now have?
3. What is "tasteful" nudity?
4. Whats next pre-approval of all pics? Are only pretty people going to get to place pics?
5. How am I posting this if I have been disabled?

I'd like some opinions before they close my account.

P.S. I changed the profile pic, like a good boy. Anyone who would like to see the "offending" pic, its in my public pics.

was this a change or was it always in place and they were just being more lenient before?
They said it was a new rule that was put in place March 1st
What did you pay 49$ for lifetime or 29$ for lifetime membership?.. Many sites have rulesabout the cover pic content like this and yes many sites approve every front pic you post and there is a delay of up to a day for them to do so.. Just picture how it would look on the chat room member wall if all the folks had crotch shots vs classy sexy poses. Many women are intimidated by a swing site but even more so if it full of smut pics in your face all the time.
I think you should just keep working on a picture selection that works for you.
We paid the $49 lifetime membership. We have been members since June of 2010. I'm mostly upset about the tone of the e-mail and the attitude of the "help" desk. I was told that I needed to remove the offending pic within 14 days or my account would be closed without refund.
Neighborhoods that have rules about what kind of siding you can put on your house, how your lawn has to look, etc. often look like very attractive neighborhoods when you drive through. However I would never want to live in one and have passed on buying houses in such neighborhoods. I appreciate the freedom of individual expression far too much. Even when my neighbors' form of expression brushes sharply against my personal tastes.

Exactly, I would say swingular does better because it allows all sorts of people to express all sorts of crazy ideas. It's like the idea of being 'professional' in the business world. It is there to offend the least amount of people possible, when in reality what will offend one person will often draw another in.

Excellent comment. I have no problem with an HOA telling me what my house needs to look like if I understood the rules before I moved in, but if you are going to change the rules then the whole HOA should get to vote. It would be wrong of the president of the HOA to make up rules and then force me out of my home if I don't obey.
1. Get over it

2. Follow the rules

3. Enjoy the lifestyle

4. No harm no foul....life moves on.

;)

there are much bigger problems in the world to get worked up over.

My point exactly! Its just a cartoon. Why did they feel it necessary to threaten to close my account without prior notification of a rule change?
Plus, I'm not that upset. I just wanted to start a conversation here. So, please, lets not start with the insults, the ridicule or who's more "real, the "sessy" people or the "normal" people.
I think this has been in place for a long time, just not always enforced. The rules been there, you just didn't notice it. Sounds like they gave you plenty of warning to fix the problem and it doesn't seem like such a big deal, does it?

If they disabled our account because I put an actual picture of me (non-genital) on the front and THEN they disabled my account THEN I'd be insulted!!!

The rule went into effect March 1st according to the e-mail I recieved yesterday. No warning.
yeah, I look at it like Facebook: they've made tons of changes people hate, yet people are still on there because it's useful in a lot of ways. Unfortunately, the worry of one person over the overall success of the site just doesn't work for anybody and everybody, so if you really don't like it, you could see it like this: most sites cost a *lot* more money per month to completely join. AFF costs what, at least 10 bucks per month? And then it completely sucks for any and all males. Talk about drowning in a sea of unwanted desire.

You could leave, but it probably won't change anything. You could fight for it, but so far, it does seem that most people are ok with this rule. It's just affecting *one* picture.
The rule has been in place longer than Mar 1st. i got a profile temporarily disabled over a year ago because of it. Maybe Mar 1st is just the new enforcement date. Who knows. *shrugs*
The e-mail I received:
(>>>>>>>> Please post another photo for your first pic<<<<<<<<<

We are writing to inform you that we have restrictive guidelines on the content of your primary picture. As of March 1st, we started enforcing new rules that require all Primary Photos (the first photo in your public album) to only contain an image of the member(s). It may not be a cartoon, landscape, vehicle or any other object unless you are in the picture as well.

You can choose to use faceless, blurred or headless images or any part of your body as long as you are somehow in the photo. If you are worried about your identity, you can crop or blur your image to remove anything that can identify you. If you do not have a photo editing program, you can use our online editor by going to your photo albums and choosing express or advanced edit when editing an image.

If you are a couple, only one of you needs to be in the picture.

As always, the following images are not allowed in your primary photo: close-up genital shots; spread shots; masturbatory depictions; erections; or obvious sexual acts. You may however use these types of images anywhere else in your public, private or custom albums.

Tasteful nudity is always allowed.

Please choose another photo to replace your current primary picture as soon as possible. You have 14 days to comply. After 14 days, we will issue one last warning as a reminder. If the issue is not resolved within 3 days, we will have no choice but to close your account without refund.

If you cannot comply, you may also choose to not post any photos in your public album at all.

In the meantime, your profile has been disabled. You will need to call us at 877-839-0045 to reactivate your account.

We appreciate your cooperation and timely consideration in this matter.

Thank you,

Swingular Admin)

I still think Swingular is one of the better website out there. I'm not leaving. I just hate being limited by social norms created by others. Thats why I'm here and not e-harmony, lol.

lol, well, - if Hellokitty had to change hers a year ago, then I don't feel too bad about being forced to change mine :) :D
"as of march first we started enforcing"....this has been a rule as long as we've been members, and personally i'm glad to see they are now enforcing it...just my 0.5
It was a rule when we joined in 2007. Looks like they are finally enforcing it. We support the enforcement...

Even though you may have paid for a membership, you don't own a portion of the site. Your comparison to an HOA doesn't pass muster.

Frankly, the admin has the right to ban or disable any account he chooses to at any time he wants... As he should.

I don't agree, if you pay for something the admin shouldn't be able to take it from you for "no reason". If you bought a tv and payed for an extended warranty and they sent you a letter saying they had decided to no longer honor it I'm sure you would have an issue with that.
ALWAYS the rule - recent enforcement.

Hey, there have to be SOME limits.
What is a lifetime membership?
A lifetime membership is our best available membership. It is a paid membership that gives you access to all the features Swingular has to offer and NEVER expires. You will own your membership for as long as Swingular or any related site exists.
Really? It's SWINGULAR'S description not mine. Never mind.........
"Lifetime" has always been a subjective term.

Many items we purchase come with a "lifetime guarantee", and we just assume that for as long as we live, if anything should ever go wrong with it, the manufacturer/seller will repair or replace it free of charge.
Not so.
In many cases, if you read the fine print (assuming you can understand the legalize), you'll find that the gaurantee expires when the usefullness of the product expires.
In other words, it refers to the product's lifetime - NOT yours.
You buy something with a lifetime gaurantee, it self destructs a year later, and you figure you're good to go for a replacement - only to be told the product's lifetime runs from the time you buy it - until it breaks.

In today's consumer market - lawyers run the world.
Would NOW be a good time to say that most people don't even read PROFILES, let alone the rules of the site? Bwahahahahahahahaha!

Just trying to offer some HUMOR here...It might be DRY but I tried. hehehehehehe

We believe it's the PEOPLE on the site that makes/breaks it....NOT the site itself. We all have a wide variety of adult swing sites. Some are better/worse than others.

We are happy just to be in this LIFESTYLE and sites like these help us to meet new and exciting people. Make it your own and use it to your advantage. You've already paid for it, so why not?

Overall people, does the SWINGING LIFESTYLE....ROCK....or what? Whewhoooooo!

I had to change mine a year ago as well.
BLUE EYES!!! we are you? we need you here on this matter....REPLY ASAP
This rule was in place when I joined and I think it is a good rule. I know many would not like it but I think profiles that do not show a current picture of the person or couple should be shut off.
Thank you for all the thoughtful and intelligent comments, opinions and adult conversation. Too often forum posts take a bad turn and drop into Jr. High level arguments. I'm very proud of all of you and appreciate your time and effort to respond. I can see points well taken on both sides of this issue. As you can see, I have corrected my offending profile pic and will play nice and obey the rules. As I stated earlier, it was mostly the suddenness and tone of the warning e-mail that bothered me and not the rule.
But I'm still wondering in this day of Santorum's threat on "porn" in the news, what is "tasteful" nudity and who gets to decide?
dude man, I can see why you're pissed off - but look how many people have been asked to change their pictures. It sounds to me like they just do a once a year cleanup, maybe a few times a year, and just go through and see what should and shouldn't be allowed. Frankly, my previous profile pic was fun, I even had a couple of hotties add me because they thought it was me, even though it said "Not Me" right on the pic :D but I can understand having to get rid of it.
