Swingers Forum - Moving to Utah

We are moving to Utah and need some help on deciding where to live. We are looking at northern Utah and focusing on the SLC, Utah, and Davis county areas. Obviously, a swinger's website would probably be the last resort that people turn to for information, but the forums on city-data.com tend to focus on LDS vs non-LDS and the difficulties the non-LDS have with making friends. Seeing these discussions concerns me a little as I grew up in Ogden and never saw any of these issues (raised LDS but we stopped going to church when I was 10) and we are currently non-LDS.

Some of the areas we are looking at include Magna, Kearns, Layton, SLC, Farmington, West Jordan, Kaysville, South Jordan, and West Valley City. Some of the things we're obviously concerned about are crime and schools (we have 2 children). From what I've gathered from the city-data forums is that West Valley City is not a good place to live (high crime/gangs) despite being listed on http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2011/states/UT.html as a good place to live. Can somebody who knows these areas give us some insight.
Hey whats wrong with west valley? lol...
I would look at the southern parts of the valley, east or west, like So. Jordon. As always it comes down to your budget, lol.

A quick story: A woman is getting her hair done, and the hair stylist asks questions and found out the lady is new to the area. The stylist asks how she likes it here. The woman responds saying she hates it! The people are rude, the stores are terrible, and the traffic is horrible.

A week later the stylist has another lady come in to her shop and finds out she just move here a couple of weeks ago also. The stylists asks her her opinions on living here. The lady response with entusiasm! The people are wonderful and so friendly, I have meet many wonderful people here. The city is georgeous and there is plenty of entertainment and things to do. I just love it here!

The moral is: you will find what your looking for. I hope you like the area and find it welcoming and warm to where you can say "I'm home."
When I moved, I used www.neighborhoodscout.com/neighborhoods/crime-rates/.
For public transit info, www.rideuta.com
Kearns, Magna, and West Valley are not good places to live. South Jordan and Riverton are nice, but are getting crowded. The commute through Davis and Salt Lake counties can be a bear. Personally I like Utah valley, (low crime, not much gang activity), Housing is cheaper, but like the rest of the state, its growing fast too. Good luck with you're search.
Im a Realtor...I would be willing to help you out. :)
I have a house for sale in 9th & 9th neighborhood of SLC, if you're interested. It's a great area to live in... :)
Stay the hell away! Far away. Utah sucks. Everyone I know that has moved here from out of State has said it was a terrible decision on their part. Those that grow up here know no different so they like it. STAY AWAY!

South Jordan is nice. OK schools but expect a Utard education for your kids. WVC was listed on Money's best places to live??? No way. It is a shit hole. Most of the SL Valley has issues. Stay away from anyplace west of I-15 and north of 106th South. On the east side, unless you are living right up against the benches, stay south of 140th South. And no place in Layton or Ogden is safe anymore.

But seriously, don't move back!

I like it up here in the Davis county area. I live west of Layton and the schools are good my neighbors are nice and there are restaurants and stores close. The freeway is close and while traffic isn't bad to me it is to some. But I am from California and this is nothing.
I was born and raised in Utah but am not and have never been LDS. I've spent most of my life here but if I could pick up family and friends and move us all somewhere else I'd consider it. Utah has a lot going for it - lots of natural beauty and easily accessible open space. But if you're coming here as a non-LDS family and have no other family or friends already here, you may find it a hostile environment. If you consider yourself even a tiny bit liberal (and drinking coffee makes you a liberal in Utah) you may find it hard to make real friends. I raised non-LDS children in South Davis County and while every kid is different, yours are likely to have issues at some point because they don
I lived within 30 miles of Salt Lake for 40+ years until last August. I miss Utah. You have some good input from people on here. Obviously those on the south end of the valley are partial to the area, and those north are the same. I have lived all along the Wasatch front. If you want some input from me, feel free to email me. I'd be glad to help.
ha ha
It really doesnt matter what town you live in, there are good and bad areas everywhere. Your definition of good and bad may differ from mine but you can really pick any town and find a great place to live. Even the Crown Jewels, ie: South and West Jordan, have bad areas. I have lived in what some deem as a "bad area" and it was pretty good when i left. All it takes is a decent person in a not so good area to make it better. Just live where its comfortable and convenient. I like the Magna area for several reasons. Although there are areas that are not so good. Most cities are making a lot of efforts to clean up.
wow! such mis-information - look at the stats of property evals and such - for the love of Buddha... one can make an intelligent assessment based on fact.
just get down here will figure it out later(= Lets party!!!

The "moral between the lines" - The first woman was Non-LDS, the second was LDS! LOL!

On a serious note; I moved here from the NY area. I bought a house in Clearfield because I liked the area and I thought it was the best "bang for my buck". I would definitely avoid the West Valley area though myself. No offense to anyone who lives there! Perhaps I just spend too much time reading KSL.com!

She is pretty close to correct. I have lived elsewhere but I like Utah. It does have its quirks but so does everywhere else. Life is what you make of it. There are areas with problems, mostly socio-economic in nature. Poor areas have more crime as a rule. Thus many of the older areas have higher rates of crime and problems in school but not all.

55 to 60 percent of the people in Salt Lake and Davis counties are non-LDS. However since the LDS are evangelistic in nature they have a tendency to want you to come to church. Most have gotten past the idea that letting their children play with non member children is a problem. Once they know you are not interested in joining they tend to leave you alone if you wish. But there are lots of good LDS and Non LDS neighbors.

Work with a realtor and find an area in your price range where there are other children close to yours in age. On the north of SLC, Bountiful through Layton will be more rural as will Harriman and daybreak areas to the South West. There are a lot of nice new homes in the south west corner of Salt Lake County. The east bench tends to be more money but not always. In Utah property taxes pay for schools.

The Provo/Orem area does have more LDS folks by percentage but not necessarily fewer swingers.

Im located in sugarhouse zip code of 84108. I would advised at looking at zip codes and possible address input on the following website:/www.crimereports.com It will give you current reports with register sex offenders with photos and lots more within that area your seeking to relocate.
Good Luck
Definitely choose st George!
The North is very nice. We live in Clearfield and have been very happy here (moved from CA).

I know all my neighbors and they are good people. Most of them are LDS; we are not. We've found them to be very good, generous people. They tend to be good families and citizens, and I haven't experienced any discrimination by them (contrary to popular belief).
Mapleton is all good, no crime, no bad part of town unless you count where it touches Springville ;)
Hey welcome back to Utah , Utah is a great place to live I've traveled and lived in many different places. Just like in the first of the forum the person said that you'll find what you're looking for. As for the non-LDS or LDS factor I'm sure there're isolated, And if you choose to be offended by people who are ignorant or offensie then u will be offended, But if you choose not to be offended then nobody will . I think you'd be happy in West Davis County or West Weber County ,Roy ,Northern weber. I just find it really ironic how people hate Utah so much but yet they still are here there are borders in every direction of travel call people don't like it so much, And if Utah has so many problems then why are people coming in instead of going on. No matter where you live in this country there will be good
hi there there are great parts all over northern utah I have live n the salt lake area on the east side and west side and have found good in all I am not going to say any one place is better but they are all different with diferent communities most of the school districts are decent but have there problems but what one doesn't in our great country lol but none the less your best bet is to come down and take a look around for yourselves and just get a feel for it all and the best part of it all is no where is far to get to here so you can always get evereything you need within 30 min or so
We have lived in east sandy for over 20 years. Very happy with the area. Anyplace you choose will have it's pros and cons. if you can the best thing would be to take a trip and spend a weekend here with someone who knows the area. it is all about research. Do that, then decide on several choices and come visit.

If you go to Davis County it is mostly all pretty decent. I would personally not go into layton itself. Just not a big fan of its layout and how congested it can get. We moved to Syracuse a few years ago and we love it out here.
Born and raised in Utah and the Salt Lake Area where I grew up is not safe, West Valley where my parents bought a home (back in like 1969) is turning out to be a Hispanic, gang and drug capital and as far as I am concerned is not safe for human existance. But then there is West Jordan, South Jordan and the Sandy and Draper areas. Those places are really nice places to consider. I have been across the country several times and Utah is still one of the best places to raise kids. Oh, and sorry for anyone still trapped in West Valley, maybe the Mayor will write another story under another ficticious name and make it all better.....
I live in Murray. I really like it here, everything is close, I am in the middle of the county, schools are great, haven't had any trouble with crime.

This is true My neighbors all know we are not LDS and dont want to be and leave me alone about it but are still great people and treat us very well. My daughters best friend is LDS (very very lds) but her mom is great to my kids. She is great to me and her kids babysit mine from time to time and I do the same for hers. I am better friends with my lds neighbors then I am with my none lds ones. I am never going to be great friends with any of them we dont share something that is fundamental to their lives. They live their religion its a part of who and what they are, we dont share that. I am ok with that and have founds some good friends here on this site and other places to fill that need.

I think the main reason I have had such great experiences is most of my lds neighbors are not from here. They have all lived outside of utah. The ones who haven't are a little more closed off to me. Thats not info you can find on a website. Syracuse is great for that though. The home prices are low and many people here and from out of state.
Thank you all. We still have some time left here in Ohio and we will be staying with family when we first move until we find a place so we should have plenty of time. Just wanted to get a general consensus.
I would check out Erda (aka The Palm Springs of eastern Tooele County). You get the great views without all the snootiness of living in the ritzy places like Grantsville or Stockton.
Hi! Park city and the Heber valley area (Daniel, Midway, Charleston and Heber) all are great places to live that seem to have fairly diverse, adventurous people drawn to them.. Might not work with your employment situation though.. Just say,n! ;) PEACE~
We moved From Florida a ouple of years ago. It's amazing how different it is in so many ways. We loved Florida, but the move was a work transfer. We were members of a couple of near by clothing optional resorts, which was much of our social life, none in Utah, but the skiing is Great.... We looked around and settled on Park City primarily because the population was more diverse than anywhere else. We really like it here, close to skiing. Work is 25 minutes away, door to door Schools are great, if that's a consideration. Good luck.............
Well... we have grown up in Utah and lived many places. It really does come down to preference of what you like and dislike. We have a home in Taylorsville (which we rent out), and a home in West Jordan (which we rent out).. we currently have our home in Cottonwood Heights. We have lived on both the East side and the West side of the Salt Lake Valley. We highly prefer the East Side, and also more towards the middle of the Valley. Much easier to get around, not really too far from anything in the Valley, and the crime in less.
After living here for so long, and in many different areas (we also lived up in Layton for awhile).. we would list the areas we would look at in this order. Holladay (Olympus Cove area), Cottonwood Heights (above 1300 east), the Millcreek area, the Murray area (east of 300 east), and finally if you did want to go a little further north - than the Federal Heights area.
You will be happier in the long and short run in these areas, than somewhere else just because it may be cheaper.
Hope you have luck in what you are looking for... and as the new real estate gurus are saying. Look at a minimum of 200 homes online, and no less than 25 homes in person. Also, you may be able to change your house, but changing the neighborhood and area is not so east (so choosing an area is more important than the home)...
:0)
Layton is really great! Low Crime fairly cheap and friendly people!! Schools are great no gangs. Least the area im in. Best of luck!
you need to go to ut county its alot quieter if you like alot of bs live in slc if you want peace of mind go south west
Eagle Mountain is nice ...
We are finally here and we have chosen to live in Bountiful. I'm still looking for a job, but I'm attending school in Kaysville and took the logic that Bountiful is halfway between Kaysville and SLC (if I should get a job there). Now comes the real question...where and how do we find the parties and clubs?

Good Choice!!! Welcome to my favorite city in the north... Yes I am partial cause I live here too :) You will enjoy the quiet serene area & have access to everything cause you're right in the middle... email me if you have questions about the area :).... WELCOME!!
This has been an interesting topic. There's been a whole lot of positive on different parts of the tri-county area, most all of which is true. I'd agree that Magna, West Valley, and Kearns are not on the top of my list of places to live, but I have a duplex I rent out in Magna and a daughter living in Waste Valley who's doing just fine. I'd say there are a lot of places that are worse. We live in Sandy and love it. I'm fortunate enough to get to travel extensively and see cities all over the country and the world. There are tons of places I 'could' live, but I love it here.

There has been a lot of negative in this thread as well, and to people like Milf_and_Daddy who think there are "too many liberal bastards and bitches! too many mormons!", I'd politely recommend you take your anger and bias and "keep on going over to southern nevada, oregon, or washington... maybe even colorado". We really don't need you here if you feel that way.

So if you're contemplating moving to Utah, come visit with us and maybe some of the other good people of Utah, let us show you around. There are lots of great places to live, work, and play. There are wonderful people to have for friends. And there isn't anywhere in the world you can have better swinging sex!

Mr. Sexperimentor
Is it possible that the original message in February may no longer apply. Lol
If u are concerned about crime or drug abusers... I would not choose magna.. lots of lower class people that live there. Mostly renting. as for slc.. avoid Glendale or Rosepark.. worst in Utah imo to live in and by far worse then west valley. West valley depends where u live... u are are south east west valley south of 3800 s and east of 3200 w it is not bad... west of that is just people that do not care for there propertys well.
Just noticed u have moved to Bountiful.. good choice!
I grew up in and still live in Brigham, it's been really nice, there are a lot of Mormons but most that you deal with aren't that bad, low crime decent schools. Most neighborhoods are quite but it's further north then you're looking I think.
Wife from east side (SNOB), I was from west side(HOOD), both lived here all our lives. Settled in Sugarhouse 20 yrs ago close to freeway entrance. It has been great, very little crime, quiet neighborhoods, central location so freeway access to any where in the valley quickly. Lots of schools and shopping.
I highly recommend you come spend a couple of weeks, meet some of us, and let us show you around. You won't know anything until you experience some of it.
