i thought i would try and ask this question because curiousity mainly. i do have my personal opinion but for now i would like to see what others say?
Why do some people think they have to drink before they can play or attempt to play?

Sometimes when you drink, it's easier to let go and do the things you really want without being enough in control of yourself to hesitate.
It doesn't really matter to us either way. We're comfortable with who we are, and what we want to do. Frankly, I like to remember what happens, and enjoy the morning after as well...lol
You know I have asked this question a few times at parties and after them. And I always hear what Grasshopper has said. Personally to me I would rather be sober when I play. But I am the type that has to be in more control to being able to let go 100% and enjoy myself and others.

For me (her) I can be a little shy at first. I don't like to be drunk by any means but having a few drinks before, it relaxes me and I lose lots of my inhibitions. We're still pretty new to the lifestyle and for me it kinda takes the nervous edge off.
We have a no drinking while play rule with new couples!!! We want to remember all the hotness!!!
I would have to agree with what most everyone here is saying. I am ok with or without alcohol but the Mrs. is pretty shy at first and is also a little self-conscious and likes to have a few drinks to Loosen her up a bit.

Because I find it pleasurable. Even more pleasureable when combined with sexual activity. It's like asking why someone might enjoy playing music while having sex. But you can over do anything. I once dated a girl who liked playing music at uncomfortable (for me) levels during sex. I asked her if we could lower the volume a bit, she agreed, and all was good. If your play mates are overdoing the alcohol mention to them that you prefer them is a less-altered state. If consumption of alcohol at any level bothers you I'd make that clear in my profile.

I don't like to be so drunk I can't remember what happened but having some rum and pepsi gets me all loose. My muscles are relaxed and it enhances the experience.
i asked out of curiousity because i know my reasons are usually different from others. i'm seeing some similarities. but i won't drink and play. i want to know that if i say yes it's because i truely want to play with that person not because alcohol makes feel less tense or makes me horny. lol.. don't get me wrong i have a drink or two every now and then. but sometimes i wonder if people only want to play cuz they are drinkin ??? hope that makes sense..

Alcohol and fucking are like Birthdays and Cake. They go together so well. It calms the nerves. We never drink to get drunk then fumble around a sexual encounter. That wouldn't be fun at all. We too like to remember. It makes for great morning after sex when we're talking to each other about it.

the last time I was at Habits, I had 2 AMF's didn't affect me at all... and I am a light weight... I think I got screwed on the liquor aspect of it... what was the waitress expecting... a 100% tip? pfft!
Two drinks I'm horny. Three I'm passed out. Yeah, I'm a lightweight! So I generally don't drink much when at a party just to avoid the later effect! Don't have to drink at all though and a lot of the time I only pretend to drink so that the evildoers will try to keep up and I can take advantage of them once they pass out!

PEPPER, what kind of flavors do you like? Watch out for shots because they usually contain quite a bit of alcohol. There is a liquor called X-Rated that is quite tasty AND fairly low in alcohol that you can dilute even further with a mixer.

Hmmm for this reason I stopped drinking. It sucked to know the following day I did for one. You don't remember the full feeling and effect you had on the other person. I drink cuz I'm shy if I don't. I'm a nice guy, have plenty to talk about, and have some awesome stories to tell.........but not right now. I don't even remember some of my awesome stories right now, but hand me a beer......
Though I agree with Handm. I drink a lot less now than when I was 21, and I have a lot more fun now than when I was 21. (partially due to the fact that I had never even heard of "swinging" at that point in my life :P ) and I probably could find a way to be fun and outgoing without drinking. but, to a point, it's easier. I usually drink until I start talking to random people. Then I pump the brakes and coast the rest of the evening so that I can still remember all the...ahem...festivities.
The Mrs hardly drinks at all...so...not much to say about that. It's nice, because I'm open and free, she's level headed and rational, and we want her to be the boss of the situation anyways, so she's the one with the keys :P (literally and figuratively) Though she's not the one who wears the pants, because, strictly speaking....no one is wearing pants (get it?)

We don't have any rules when it cums to drinking, but it is very much a turn off if either of the couple is "drunk" and can't perform. The reason why we say this is that our very first lifestyle experience, the guy showed up smashed. He wasn't being rude or disrespectful in anyway, but he couldn't get hard the whole night. Not very beneficial to Candy. We like to think that we're a "relaxing" couple to be around. We do like to have a beer or mixed drink to losen up a bit, but that's usually it. We do like to remember what we did with our couples. Let's face it, when everyone wakes up in the morning, who the hell wants to play again with a hangover? People handle their alcohol differently. Some are nicer and some "Instant Asshole Just Add Alcohol" LOL! Sorry to say, but if you don't like us sober, then you will NOT like us when you're drunk. For the simple reason that we won't tolerate it and ask you to leave. There is enough of "anxiety" issues going around and we feel alcohol increases those issues. Now lets stop drinking and have wild monkey sex all night long! LOL!
For me, drinking a little bit tends to help me open up, be far more daring, and I guess it gives me the excuse in my own head to be that daring.... For instance, if someone thought I was coming on to them too strongly, I could always blame it on the alcohol, then tone it down. I'd be able to tone it down, because my wonderful husband never lets me drink too much. We only get a little buzzed,nothing more. We too like to remember everything about the night.

There's no telling if our initial instincts will stay static once we get to know more about the couples we meet attitude can completely make or break a situation for us, but as I've said we can tell whether or not we find anyone attractive physically in an instant. No need for drinks for us to indulge our urges...

We totally agree with you guys. We always have some type of beer/alcohol available in our house for our guests. Hell, we never drink it. LOL! Yes, the "goal" of the evening is to have the time of your lives sexually with your couples. Which is why we tend to shy away from the local meet & greets. Seems as though the goal of those are just to mingle and hang out with your friends in the lifestyle and drink until you get into a fight with your better-half. LOL! Then again, we're not the type of couple where if we see you for the first time at a m/g, we will sleep with you that same night. We want to get to know our couples on here before any play happens. It's not being picky, it's just our standard and we're not whores. Everyone has their techniques of finding their couples. Ours might be rather brutal, but in the end, you'll find us to be a very respectable, laid back couple that puts their pants on one leg at a time. ;o) So to answer the famous question..."Does (too much) alcohol kill the male hardon?"
