There's a shop I go to that has this dog in the front: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newfoundland_%28dog%29 150 pounds. Very cool dog, very friendly, not mean at all. I'd want one of those if I had a huge yard for it to play in. Supposedly they're natural swimmers that save people from drowning.

Newfies are great, however, you're right they need space.
If you wanna take them to the dog park every day and such, they would work for you.
Do research on any breed of dog you may be interested in. I am a lazy pet owner, so I got the two laziest breeds (St Bernard and Great Dane). They go into the yeard, wrestle with each other, and they're done.
