Swingers Forum - I need to BUY a car....

Previous Post Next Post
Hey, after my car accident 2 weeks ago I find I need a car. But because I didn't have Gap Insurance (long bitter story about it) I still owe a few grand on my previous car loan.

So I am looking to spend about $1000 on something that can get me around town, transport 4 kids, automatic, clean, working heater and A/C, CD player would be nice, and automatic. It also needs to pass safety/emissions and be in GOOD running condition. I don't have the time or money to be dealing with repairs, and it must have a clean title.

If you have or know of a car like this, please shoot me an email.

Thanks.
Tammy
Check out KSL classified or craigslist but 1000.00 will be hard to find. I saw some old people in my neighborhood selling their car. I think it is an Oldsmobile or something! for 2000.00! I can check it out if you are interested!
There are a ton of them on ksl. I'm trying to do the same thing!! Just check the nada.com and the bank usually will loan u the difference so you can roll over your neg equity.
I have been checking KSL and Craigs List. Also, since I'm STILL paying on my car I don't want to add to that car payment. It already has me stretched too thin as it is.

Thanks for keeping your eyes out for me. I am asking everywhere cuz you never know where you might find the right deal.

I'm also a mechanic. $1000 car will not be reliable!!!!!unless you get it from family then maybe
only suggestion i have is if you do decide to purchase anything from KSL or CraigsList...take it to a mechanic and have them do a thorough once over to see what kind of issues it might have. I have been able to find some very reliable cars on Craigslist for $1000 but they are far and few in between. Maybe one of the Mech heads that have responded would be willing to check a vehicle for you at a very reasonable price (free99). Good luck hun, we'll keep our eyes and ears open for you as well.
I will just keep looking. It's all I can do.
I will keep my eyes open for something ..I am a dealer and got to the auto auctions every week.
I have a 2001 beetle that has a warrenty replaced engine and turbo in 2009, the engine has about 22,ooo miles. This car runs like brand new and gets about 30mpg, all leather, silver paint. But there is one thing it needs and I will reduce the price to cover the repair. The ABS light came on in Sept and we took it to the shop here in Pocatello. They say it has a comunication problem in the dash cluster and a dealer has to do the work to reset the electrol key. Only the dealers have these codes to do that. It is estimated to cost $750.00 to do this with a used dash cluster. We rarly drive this car, maybe a couple hundred mile since Oct. Its an extra car we have my wife drives to work 1 mile from home.
If somebody wants to do the leg work to have it fixed, I will make them a great deal on the car.
NOT BEING MEAN HERE>>>> but with the two accidents you have had maybe you should be looking for a truck that sits up high so that you can be seen and you can see out of....
another suggestion to those that care....(its not for sale just an example) i just got a '94 ford E350 van with after market CNG conversion kit for $1500 off KSL. it gets the equivalent of 35-40 MPG HWY and 30-35 MPG city. its still in very good condition and i'm ecstatic!! I bring it up for a couple reasons, first, you can find great buys out there if you take the time to look, second, in response to Mr_TRIXEE, its a larger vehicle which would provide much more safety than say a smaller sardine can would, and third, i will vouch for anything that has a CNG conversion...they are amazing!!! Anyway, i guess the point is...take your time to look, there are gems out there just might take sifting through some heaps of rubbish first.
I thought that this was a sex site. Can't you at least put up a pic of someone naked on a car or something?

John, my first car accident was when I drove a mini van. I got hit by a teenage girl who was speeding doing 50 miles in a 30 mile zone, bent down to pick her cell phone up off the floor, ran a red light, and Tboned me, making me and my van fly thru the air 65 feet and then rolling 3 times. Hardly my fault or because I was driving in too little of a car. Second accident was my fault. I have reactive hypoglycemia (only found out right after accident) which is why I passed out while driving on the freeway. Size of my car once again had no impact on my accident. Both times my car was totaled.

I would love love love a truck. I used to have one 13 yrs ago. Hell, I would love a jeep too. However neither a jeep or a truck is the best car for a mom with 4 boys ages 4 - 15. I would need an extended cab truck and they tend to be huge gas guzzlers.

Google naked girls on cars if you need a pic. This is the NON SEXUAL classifieds section of the forums.
just to let everyone know that there are good deals on KSL. Last year about this time I bought a 95 ford econoline with the 4 captains chairs and couch in the back with 202000 miles on it. Paid 1150 for it and have only replaced the wipers and done oil changes on it at the recommended intervals. Checked the oil yesterday and the oil is at the right miles to change but it looks like it is brand new! We own a 07 durango also, and the oil is not that clean. We have just picked up a 24 foot travel trailer that we will be towing with the van because it gives us more room. Check things out and if you are not a mechanic or mechanically inclined, have it checked and you can get some great deals on KSL.
I have been searching KSL, Craigs List, and newspaper. I figure it will take some time. I am searching for cars listed over $1000 for those "or best offer" ones too.

I have access to a mechanic/shop. I just don't have time to be dealing with anything major. Normal stuff or easy stuff is ok.

BLUEEYESINUTAH, I buy vehicles on KSL for under $1000 that need mechanical repairs. I fix them, detail them, and resell them. The supply of vehicles in that price range that have any value is getting harder and harder to find. The average number of vehicles in that price range was about 2,500. Lately the number has gone down to 1,400. The years avaliable are also getting older. Which means more repairs needed and just plain junky. Many people that sell their vehicles are not realistic as to what they are worth. The NADA or Kelly values are not a good guide to follow. I look more for what the selling market value is. Or what someone actually sold a vehicle for. I tend to get a higher price for my vehicles because they are very clean and have NO mechanical issues. This is not the norm. Most vehicles have issues, either cosmetic or mechanical. Most people with either lie or omit details as to what is wrong with the vehicle. I know what to look for and what the costs are in repairing a vehicle and more often than not, I will walk away from a purchase. I tell you all this because I am losing faith in my fellow man to tell the truth and be honest. If you don't have a knowledge of what to look for you can get taken advantage of really quick. Ask many questions, take it to a mechanic and get it checked out for about $50. If it seems to good to be true, IT IS. If it doesn't feel right, walk away. There are 500 million vehicles out there, be patient and you will find a good deal. ALSO, have your money ready when you are looking. Many times you have to be "Johnny on the spot" to get a good deal. If it is a good deal, it is gone right away. I have missed several vehicles that I could have made several thousand from by being 30 minutes late. The asking or listed price doesn't mean much to me. I rarely pay what someone is asking. You can always offer less money and then go up if you have to. People want to sell a car and are more often than not, willing to take less. Everyone that looks at my cars always starts out with a lower offer. Don't let someone con you into thinking that their car is gold. Take needed repairs off the price of the vehicle. Fair is fair. If you need to know what to look for so you don't get taken advantage of, contact me and I will give you a few pointers. I am not trying to sell you something. Just trying to help. Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up, however I found a great car a few weeks ago and was able to purchase it. It feels good to be mobile again. It was cool of you post your advice and your experience. Everyone can use the tips and your insight.
