Maybe I'm being dumb but when you do a search for who is on line most aren't. I don't get it will someone explain it to me. :-)
I agree totally, at least show who is currently online, not the ones that have been online an hour or more ago.
If I recall correctly from a discussion on here a couple years back, in regards to this site, users will show an online status even though they have been offline for hours. It is similar on other sites and they, Admin, have chosen to do the same here.
I find it confusing and dislike it myself.

Who's online just shows who has logged in in the last 6?10?12? hours. Not sure exactly what the timeout is. Definitely doesn't indicate who is actually online at any given moment.
I have been told that it shows me me online all the time, even when I'm not. If I'm looking for a particular friend I check my IM friend's list and it tells me more accurately who is REALLY on the site. I think the difference is also "online" vs "on swingular".
The safest way to tell if someone is online, is to check the bottom right "who's online" box, if you click on that, it will show you who is definitely currently online. The people that are "on" will have a green dot by them, the ones that are not, have a gray dot by them. Now this unfortunately only works for your friends list... Hope this helps.
I think FRI3NDSPLUS clarified it and hit the nail on the head. That is what I was trying to say.
The problem with the "who's online" box, is it only lists people in your friends list. if they aren't on your friends list they won't show up there. Also the person has to have enabled the IM option on their profile.
We are on line!
I'm with Blueeyes... I have been told I show online all the time even though I hadn't logged on in days... hmmm
Thanks everyone!
I know some folks who NEVER turn their puter off - and when they walk away from it, whatever site they were last on is still up.
Could be the case here.

And dont forget the chat room. TG was shown in the chat all day the other day but every time I entered the room he was not there. Plus if the chatroom only has a couple folks and you enter it keeps you shown there even after you leave. And a few times I just turn on and enter swingular and find myself in the chatroom before I enter. With deceptions like this all geared to make it look like a happening website its not much of a stretch to believe that there must also be alot of fake profiles created in cities that have low memberships. Just My Opinion
Just an FYI on this topic from the source. In response to MAYBEMOR's statement, we do not use deception, nor do we create fake profiles. We have never done that and never will. We've been around for 10 years, all the profiles you see are accumulative up to this point. Because most of the members are lifetime members, we are not obligated to remove inactive profile with lifetime membership status. However, we do remove non-lifetime, non-paying members after 6 months of inactivity.
How do you know we aren't creating fake profiles? You don't. You just have to take our word for it I guess. Being around for 10 years has it's privileges. For one, our member base is big enough that creating fake profiles doesn't do us any good. It would actually hurt us since nobody on the other end would be responding. Second, we are in the top 10 of all swinger related search results. We don't need to create fake profiles since we are getting tons of new members each day anyways. Just search for 'adult swingers' or 'swinger ads' on Google and see for yourself.
As for Who's Online, there is a 4 hour window from the last time you have any activity and then the system will delete you automatically. The way the internet works, there is just no true way to tell you are online without constantly hitting the server with requests which would end up slowing down the website for you and everyone else. So we keep you in the system just in case you are away from your computer and you still want people to know you are available. Thus the 4 hour window.
As for chat, if you see someone listed in the chatroom list before you open chat, it's because they probably logged out of chat but left the chat window open. The website and chatroom are on two different platforms and do not communicate with each other. We have to use the chat window as a mechanism to tell us who 'may' be in the chatroom. This system relies on the last person in the chatroom to clean out the database information for those that were in the chat room and since they are that last ones, it will keep them showing, even if they aren't there.
Also, if someone is in the chatroom and leaves for a moment, the chatroom will kick them out. Since the chat window is still open, it will show them on Swingular as in the chatroom.
So this isn't a matter of deceptive practices, it's a matter of mechanics.

Maybe....maybe not
Thank you admin for posting a reply. I have been trying to figure everything out. At least now I know when I have been trying to chat with someone they aren't just ignoring me. Lol
There are small apps that will keep you in a website for ever if you want to use them. But as a computer professional the Admin's answer does ring true.
