We've been discussing hosting a house party. We would love to know the pros and cons from those of you who have done so. Any advice you could offer to new hosts?

We were hoping you'd get some response to this..we would like to get something together a little more formal than what we've been doing, as well...a little "word from the Wiser" would have been nice.

I have some advice to post but it's too much to do from my phone...I'll have to do it in the morning 
having a hot tub helps but the con of that is that the water needs to be replaced the next day... which gets expensive... one pro of a house party is you don't have to leave your house but the con is that yo have to clean up the next day... if you have kids it really important to walk thru every room and everywhere outside to look for condoms... you will find them in the weirdest places...
Have plenty of garbage cans around the house and replace the bags often...

Haha...it's not just condoms they find either...one of our first house parties there was a dildo suctioned to the t.v....long story...needless to say I had a bit too much to drink and forgot to take it off before I went to bed...that one took some explaining when the kids got home lol
Seriously, we love having house parties, have a couple a year at least...other than the mess afterwards there really hasn't been a whole lot of downfalls for us but a couple things...
As with any party, invite about 3 times as many as you'd like to have (or more)
Send out invites in plenty of time and a reminder about a week ahead, then a day or two
Have some fun/naugh-ty games
Make sure and cover windows in the doors and the little ones on the sides of the doors
Put all breakables and valuables away if you don't know your crowd
Make sure your rules are clear (like no play in master bedroom, no smoking in house, etc)
If you have the room, have it set up so anyone who drinks and doesn't have a DD can stay
Have fun!!

People don't understand what RSVP means.
Half of whom you invite will say they will show, and out of that half, only half will show. so if you invite 12, 6 will say they will be there, 3 will actually show up.
Just let the party go at its own pace. if you have games planned don't push them on people. Play them if they ask. The best way is to put the game on the table and let people explore.
Giving long enough notice is a great idea, so everyone can plan it out.

Thanks! We're still not scared tho...gonna give it a whirl. Think our biggest fear is what to do with all the food, etc, when no one shows up..we can only eat so much, you know. LOL

We always do just a little food and make it be BYOB and a snack to share...that way you're not forking out all the money for the food...most couple's have no problem grabbing a veggie tray or some sort of salad or something to share...in fact I don't remember the last one we went to that wasn't that way

Well here is the ironic part....I have only been to ONE house party before. I was too much of a wuss to attend them but the hosts were people I absolutely love and adore so I put on my big girl panties and went. And sometime during the night, the panties came off. LOL
Now I can't wait to go to more. And next time, I'm going commando.

Good points....We had planned on using the address thing to help solidify the rsvps...We have room for quite a few...as long as they all play nice..LOL But not sure we want to fill the place to the rafters...LOL Knowing at least approximately how many are coming is pretty vital info..we think.
