Just a thought ... perhaps when the "Request Friendship" button is pressed, a box could pop-up requiring the requester to input a text message which will be added to the friendship request, rather than just a generic friendship request message?
It just seems like I get a boatload of requests that are generic, from people I don't know, and who often leave no email message and have no pics available. I've just gotta wonder if they are just going through the list of online people, clicking the Friendship button whenever they see a pic they like, then moving on, mass email-style, just hoping that maybe 1 out of the 500 requests they make lands a response?!
Perhaps just forcing them to add a message might slow them down a tad and require a bit more thought for the request than just a button-click? I mean, if they're really interested is it so bad that they enunciate just why they're interested? Solely looks (which is ok sometimes!)? Something in the profile? Common interests?
Not a big deal and don't want to start a big whoop-d-doo over it, but it'd be nice to get fewer emails/requests from those who've obviously ignored my profile, and more emails/requests from folks who have actually taken the time to look things over and believe that we might actually have a mutual reason for accepting/requesting friendship and perhaps meeting someday.

FUN4MWF,
I can see where you are coming from and we actually pondered this idea once. After thinking it over, we came to the conclusion that adding a text box to allow someone to send a message with a friend request doesn't solve the situation you describe as someone can just type in the word 'hi' and continue sending out mass friend requests. This has actually been discussed before in a previous post and there were a lot of ideas thrown around but the general consensus was to just leave it as is. There was talk of adding the ability to password protect your friend request so that someone would have to contact you first and start a conversation and if you so desired, gave them the password to start the friend request. But it was shot down. The point was, the more you try to fix the issue, the more you introduce new problems to the original one.

That's fine, I understand what you're gettin' at. I didn't see it in a previous post but have only been on here a bit over a month and didn't look back to far. (I know, your thinking, "Use the search feature, nimrod!!) I just delete them as is so like I said, it's not a big deal. I was thinking that saying "Hi" like you mention above would make them look a bit foolish, but then I think it's kinda foolish to do what I was complaining about in the first place and that doesn't stop 'em!

BTW, Very cool site, I think a step above anything else I've seen, both in ease of use and classiness of appearance!
this is a great idea we like it
500 friend requests?! Its no wonder people turn the add feature "off" Might be your only option, 'forcing' someone to email you first. How unique, actually talking to someone before requesting an add.Anyone you want to be friends with, would have no problem emailing you 1st. Just my 2 cents.

Is there any way we can get an "ARE YOU SURE" button when you are friends with someone and you hit the request friendship button by accident? I've hit that stupid thing a few times now like an idiot, and it removes the friendship without any sort of "ARE YOU SURE" question! Then I have to go back and request the friendship again and if you haven't talked to someone for while it doesn't always go well.
It happened to me today, a warning button would be great.
