I have only been in the swinging lifestyle in the capacity of going to swingers clubs. I have also been involved, and witnessed gangbangs at the club. I believe that there are 2 very important factors for a gangbang to happen.
1) Comfortable Setting
2) Comfortable with the people involved.
Yeah the club setting is a good place for swingers, but it can be a chancy place for gang bangs. The club I used to attend did allow single men, but so many were pushy and didn\'t get the ideal of the social aspect. I\'ll admit I\'ve never been invited to a gang bang at a hotel or private home. I\'m sure I would accept the opportunity to, but I do know the lifestyle and have respect for any couple I meet.
Why make it so HARD? - pic posting - Last weekends party had the idea of a profile party being held where we all would pose for pics with each other, faces protected for those wanting so. Someone brought up the idea that they had signed a morality clause and if they were ever found on a swingers site they would be terminated from their job. They said the company actually has people surfing the various sites looking for employees with pics. I bring this up to defend those that do not want to post pics. No, I don't know of any church-of-the-wild-and-crazy-swingers. But I DO enjoy belonging to a Church that does not issue broad sweeping edicts REQUIRING certain behaviour by people so as to assure that ya'll are exactly like me. I like differences. I like differing beliefs or opinions. I like the fact that I couldn't be excommunicated for being gay for example. I can not be tossed aside because I swing nor can I toss you aside because you swing or are bisexual.
So all I'm saying is that I enjoy belonging to a Church that outwardly espouses a view that agrees with mine -- I(we) don't have all the answers so I'm not going to condemn you for where you are in your journey of self-discovery and life. I'm going to join you, talk with you, and discuss things. Maybe I'M the one who'll end up changing and you're not "wrong" at all. (in whatever it is that you believe)

Discretion, the better part of valor - I love that saying - It's a tough one. Women will ALWAYS get more action here than men. Sex is theirs when it comes to power and control. The "you can only get as much as I can get" has never worked for us. But our situation is a little different in that I travel a ton for work so when I'm home I can't see spending what little time I have with someone else. And being on the road, I don't have time to get any action. So the equality in playing separate isn't there. As a result, Mrs. Sexperimentor doesn't play without me unless it's another woman. That's her choice and a bone thrown to equality, which I appreciate.
As for the issue of not playing because you're afraid you'll run into a playmate in your vanilla life... To me that's horse pucky. The person you run into will be at just as much risk as you of being "outed". You'll have a lot more in common than a whole lot of other people you meet. And if you have a little discretion about who you play with, you'll have similar attitudes on how to conduct yourselves in a vanilla situation. Actually, I don't think we have EVER, in all the years we've been doing this, just run into anyone we've played with. There are people we've known to be swingers but haven't played with that we've run into, one lady I run into frequently, but life in the lifestyle has never even been discussed in vanilla settings.
I hope this isn't your situation, but the last couple I knew that would play separately but not together, with a story told essentially the same way you told yours, didn't end well. She was more interested in having other romantic relationships than she was in maintaining her marriage. Frankly, while playing without my wife is fun, and we share the tales and details afterward, I'd really rather play as a couple. Our playing together has enhanced our relationship and that's what I'd encourage you to do.

Are we really as judgmental as vanilla people? - - Yes, many in the lifestyle are as judgmental as those outside. I am 15 pounds overweight but to some I am as broad as a battleship. What's more, after 34 years of marriage, 24 of which were in the lifestyle, my wife died. All of a sudden I was persona non grata at the club we attended because single males were not allowed. I had not changed, only my marital status. I have been pilloried and shunned because of being lumped with the FEW young single guys who don't have a clue. Now I have 3 strikes: I'm old, I'm slightly overweight, and single. I've learned these last 9 years that swingers can be just as cruel, predjudiced and uncaring as other people. What keeps me going is all those swingers who truely accept me as I am.:z
